Chapter 38: Rituals

Many hours later, Katie sleepily opened her eyes. She turned and saw Marcus sleeping beside her. During the evening, he had removed her robe and tucked her into his bed wearing one of his shirts. He looked so peaceful. The sharp angles of his face were softened in sleep. He had such long eyelashes, longer than most girls did. He would be annoyed if Katie pointed it out to him. She smiled and then noticed his arms were wrapped firmly around her. She moved further into his arms and thought about what she had learnt that night.

There was not two ways around it; Katie knew in her heart that tomorrow the medi-witch would tell her what she already knew. She was going to have Marcus’s baby. The evidence was there.

“Merlin,” thought Katie. “My mother is going to go absolutely mental. And Daddy, I don’t want to think about how Daddy is going to react. I hope he doesn’t try to hex Marcus too badly. How can he sleep so peacefully?”

Katie jabbed Marcus in the stomach with a sharp elbow. Her stomach fluttered as her elbow met firm smooth skin. She just loved his stomach. Her hand reached out to soothe the hurt. Her fingers trailed along his warm muscled abdomen.

“Katie,” said Marcus sleepily as he opened his eyes.

Katie turned and pressed her face against his shoulder. She brought her entire body against his comforting large frame.

“Marcus,” said Katie quietly. “How can you sleep so calmly?”

“There’s nothing we can do now, is there love?” asked Marcus. “The baby is here to stay. We have to figure out how and when we tell our parents.” He smoothed her tangled hair away from her face.

“Someone once told me that there are potions that -,” said Katie carefully. She closed her eyes as her throat closed up and tears welled in her eyes. She felt Marcus stiffen against her.

“Katie,” said Marcus firmly. “It’s my child as well. I can’t believe that you would want to do such a thing.”

Katie was silent for a minute. “I couldn’t do it anyway,” said Katie softly. “Like you said it’s our baby.”

Katie trembled as Marcus moved his hand to cover her stomach. She moved her hand to cover his. They both lay there in the darkness, face to face. In the past six months, she and Marcus had done some very intimate things with one another. But she had never felt as emotionally close to Marcus than at this precise moment.

“Katie,” said Marcus huskily. “Marry me.”

Katie’s eyes widened. She stilled. “Are you asking because of the baby?”

“I’m asking because I love you. I was going to ask next Yule. I had it planned down to the flowers,” said Marcus earnestly.

“Really?” said Katie hopefully and a little tearfully.

“I was going to lure you to Stonehenge during winter solstice and ask you under the stars with roses and champagne,” said Marcus as he smiled. “But I know now that here in this bed is the only place that’s right. I began my fierce infatuation with you, right here. I fell madly in love with you, right here. And here is where we conceived our child. Katie, will you please be my wife in front the world because you have been my wife in my heart for ages.”

“Yes,” said Katie as she buried her face in Marcus’s throat. “Yes, yes, yes!”

Many moments later, Katie raised her tear stained face and gave Marcus a sweet yearning kiss with all the love she had for him in her heart. Marcus kissed her back fiercely and thoroughly.

“You know Marcus,” said Katie a little tearfully. “That had to be the most romantic wonderful thing you have ever said to me.”

“The usual rules apply kitten,” said Marcus lazily as he stroked her throat with a finger.

“I know,” said Katie with a grin. “No telling your mates.” She ran a hand along his back as he leaned over her and kissed her breathless. She gave a surprised gasp as his hands went up the shirt she was wearing. She moaned as he lightly brushed her very sensitive nipples under her lace bra. He kissed her insistently as he moved his large frame over her own.

“Marcus?” panted Katie as her body flushed hotly as his clever hands ran up then down her torso.

“Katie,” said Marcus with his rough deep voice. “You can’t get more pregnant, can you?”

“No,” said Katie with a knowing sensual smile as she ran a seeking hand down his flat belly and grasped his awakening shaft. She stroked him from root to tip in a languorous gesture. His large hands reached down and tugged her pants off. She opened her legs for him and Marcus settled in between them.

“Say the words with me,” said Marcus as he stared into her eyes. He entered her with a swift movement that made Katie gasp with passion.

“You say them first,” said Katie as she moved her hips enticingly under him.

“I vow to you Katherine Isolde Bell,” said Marcus as his hips began a rhythm as old as time itself.

“And I vow to you Marcus Aurelius Flint,” said Katie as she raised her hips so he could penetrate her deeper.

“On the honor of my ancestors, and before the sun, the moon, the stars and mother earth,” said Marcus breathlessly as he moved inside her velvety wetness.

“On the honor of my ancestors, and before the sun, the moon, the stars and mother earth,” said Katie as she wrapped her legs around Marcus’s waist.

“That I intend that you be my wife,” said Marcus as his hips flashed against hers.

“That I intend that you be my husband,” said Katie in high breathless voice. She was so close. Her sheath fluttered as he drove into her relentlessly.

“I plight thee my troth,” said Marcus with a groan as he arched his back and came inside Katie. His body shuddered as her sheath milked at his erection.

“I plight thee my troth,” shrieked Katie as the pleasure washed over her.

They lay together in a heap, panting.

“Marcus,” said Katie hesitantly a minute later when she caught her breath. “Shouldn’t we have waited and told our parents before we did the betrothal ritual?”

“No,” said Marcus roughly. “You are mine. I am yours. Nothing and nobody is going to stop us now. Besides, we made love while we said the words. That’s ancient magic. We are bound magically together now.”

“Everything is going to be all right now,” said Katie sleepily.

“Love,” said Marcus sleepily. “There’s going to be screaming and tantrums, as well as some broken crockery but yes, everything will work out in the end.”

“As long as we are together,” said Katie quietly.

“All three of us,” said Marcus.
