Chapter 36- Nightmares and Fighting Ones Demons

Chapter 36- Nightmares and Fighting Ones Demons

Hermione was sitting by the lake at Hogwarts. It had been two days since she and her friends had graduated from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Ron and Harry were preparing to go into Aurora training in August, Lavender was getting ready to go to the university and Ginny was preparing for her final year at Hogwarts. Hermione was happy that her friends were fulfilling their dreams, but sad that they weren’t together anymore.

“Sickle for your thoughts.” Severus whispered as he sat besides his wife.

“You startled me. I was just thinking.” Hermione said.

“What were you thinking about?” he asked as he drew her into his arms.

“I just miss my friends. I mean, I’m glad they are fulfilling their dreams, but I miss them. It’s weird being here and they aren’t. You know?” she answered.

“I know. But hey, Ginny will be here in September, Lavender promised to write and visit often as did Ron and Harry. You’ll see them again soon.” Severus replied.

Severus had arranged for their friends to come over to 12 Grimmwauld Place on the 24th of July for Hermione’s surprise birthday party. He had managed to keep the party a surprise from his wife. All she knew was that they were going to see a muggle play. It was her favorite, Rome and Juliet.

“Come on, it’s getting late and you need to get something to eat and get some rest.” Severus said as he helped her to her feet.

Hermione was beginning to become more and more tired as she got further along in her pregnancy. She was now 5 months along. Poppy said for Hermione to stay off her feet as much as possible. Hermione argued with the medi-witch, but in the end agreed to listen to her. Hermione sat beside her husband and Sirius at dinner.

“How are you feeling tonight Hermione?” Sirius asked.

“I’m feeling tired, but otherwise I’m feeling fine.” Hermione answered.

“Have you and Severus decided on names for your children?” Minerva inquired.

“Yes. For our daughter we are naming her Gabrielle. For our son we are naming him Remus.” Severus smiled.

“Remus would have been honored.” Albus nodded.

“I know. By the way, Sirius, me and Hermione would like for you, along with Harry and Ron to be our children’s godfather. Harry and Ron agreed before they left. What do you say?” Severus questioned.

“You mean that? You two want me to be Gabrielle and Remus’ godfather?” Sirius asked as tears formed in his eyes.

“Yes.” Hermione answered as she smiled brightly.

“I would be honored.” Sirius said smiling.

After dinner Severus helped Hermione down to the dungeons. Once in their sitting room Severus pulled Hermione into his arms and held her close. “I’m glad that Harry, Ron, Sirius, Lavender, Ginny and Minerva agreed to be our children’s godparents.” Hermione sighed.

“So am I. I couldn’t think of a better group to be their godparents. Could you?” Severus grinned.

Hermione shook her head. She rested her head against her husband’s broad shoulder. Severus looked down. He knew she was tired. After everything that had happened to them, things had been the hardest for Hermione. Ever since Draco had been destroyed she had been having nightmares. In her dreams she had been reliving the worst memories of the events over the past year.

“Sweetheart, why don’t we get some sleep? You look tired.” Severus said.

“Okay. That sounds like a good idea.” Hermione agreed sleepily.

Together they headed to their bedroom. After they dressed for bed they curled up in each other’s arms. Hermione fell asleep as soon as he head hit the pillow. Severus followed her into slumber ten minutes later.

*Hermione’s Dream*

‘So, you’re fucking Snape now huh? How fitting. The mudblood and the traitor. Now it’s time for you to see what happens when you cross a Malfoy.’ Draco snarled as he stripped the last bit of cloth from Hermione.

‘No! Get away from me! Help! Please someone help me!’ Hermione screamed.

Draco laughed and began to rape her. Hermione screamed and tried to fight back.

*The Dreamscape twists*

‘How’s the pregnancy going Granger? I suppose congratulations are in order huh?’ Draco sneered as he stepped out of the shadows.

Hermione heard the sound of footsteps running toward them.

‘They can’t get here in time to save you. Not even Snape.’ Draco said.

Draco took a step toward her and pushed her down the stairs leading to Severus’s classroom. Hermione’s world went black. When she came too she found Severus at her side.

‘Sev…Severus? Severus?’ Hermione moaned.

‘Sshh. I’m here Hermione. Sirius, Harry and Albus are here too.’ Severus whispered.

‘What’s wrong Severus? What happened?’ Hermione asked.

‘Hermione, my love, Poppy told me two hours ago that…the fall caused you to…baby, you lost the baby.’ Severus said as tears fell from his eyes.

*Back in reality*

“Huh? Hermione? You all right?” Severus asked as he was jerked awake by the sound of Hermione crying.

“No! No! No! Severus no. Please tell me this is a nightmare. That I’ll wake up and that you and I will be in our room. That I’ll still be pregnant.” Hermione moaned in her sleep.

“Hermione, love, come on wake up.” Severus said as he gently shook her shoulder to wake her up.

“No!” Hermione cried as she jerked upright in bed.

“Sshh. It’s all right. It was just a dream. You and our children are fine.” Severus whispered as he held her tightly.

“Oh Severus. Why? Why am I having nightmares about the things that Draco did to us?” Hermione whispered as she cried.

“I don’t know. Honey, I think it’s time we tell Albus and Minerva. These nightmares have got to stop. It’s not healthy for you or the babies.” Severus answered.

“Okay. We will talk to them tomorrow morning.” Hermione murmured.

“Okay. Now, let’s try and get some more sleep. Alright.” Severus said.

“Okay. Just hold me tight. Please.” Hermione pleaded.

“You got it.” Severus agreed as he wrapped his arms tightly around his wife.

Hermione fell asleep once more. Severus stayed awake the rest of the night and just held her tightly to him. For Hermione’s sake she wasn’t plagued the rest of the night by her nightmares.

The next morning Severus and Hermione headed up for breakfast. Albus and Minerva agreed to meet with them as soon as breakfast was finished. After breakfast the four of them headed for Albus’s office. Once everyone was comfortable, Albus spoke.

“Now, what seems to be the problem?” Albus asked.

“Albus, Hermione has been having nightmares about the thing that she went through at the hands of Draco and his cronies. They’ve been getting progressively worse and more frequent.” Severus answered.

“Dear, why didn’t you say anything sooner? How long has this been going on?” Minerva questioned.

“It’s…it’s been happening since right after Harry destroyed Draco. I thought it was just because of everything that had happened till they started coming to me every night and they started getting worse with each passing night.” Hermione explained as tears began to fall from her eyes.

Minerva moved over and took the young woman into her arms. “Albus, we have to do something. It’s not healthy for her to continue on like this.” Minerva said.

“I know. Give me some time. I will have an answer for you tonight after dinner. I promise.” Albus replied gently.

Hermione and Severus nodded. Together they rose to their feet and left the office. Minerva turned to face Albus.

“What are we going to do?” Minerva asked.

“There is only one thing. Hermione has to face her demons in her nightmares. That is the only thing that she can do. The hard part will be how she is going to do this without bringing harm to herself or the children.” Albus sighed.

That night after dinner Severus and Hermione met with Albus and Minerva. “Did you find something sir?” Severus asked.

“Yes. Hermione, the only way for you to rid yourself of these nightmares is to face your demons in your dreams.” Albus answered.

“How?” Hermione demanded.

“You have to fight Draco Malfoy one last time. In your dreams.” Albus explained.

“How can she do that without hurting herself or our children?” Severus questioned worriedly.

“I have come up with a way. I can use a transfiguration spell that will make Hermione appear to look like she isn’t pregnant, but she still is. This spell will not harm your wife or your children.” Minerva replied.

“I…I don’t know if I can do this. I don’t think I can face him again.” Hermione said.

“Hermione, you have to. It’s the only way to get rid of your nightmares.” Severus whispered.

“I’ll try.” She nodded.

“That’s all we can ask of you my dear. While you are battling in your dreams me, Minerva and Severus will be watching. If it gets too hard for you we will pull you out.” Albus assured her.

“All right. When do we do this?” Hermione asked.

“How about tomorrow night?” Severus suggested.

“Tomorrow night it is then.” Hermione said.

The four friends said good night. Hermione and Severus returned to their chambers to try and get a full nights rest before the next night. As Hermione slept Severus lay beside her thinking.

‘Please give Hermione the strength to fight Draco’s memory and defeat him. Please give her the strength to succeed in her fight that she now faces.’ Severus thought as he too drifted off to sleep.
