Chapter 36: Discovery
“Earth to Marcus,” said Adrian with a snicker. “The sex talk has been over for ages. Did one of those Weasleys glue you down? Wankers!”
“No,” said Marcus distractedly. Marcus got to his feet and followed the rest of the Slytherins out the door automatically.
“We have Arithmancy for our last class,” said Terry as he and Alec started walking towards their classroom. “See you lads later.”
“Where are you off to Marcus,” asked Bole. Adrian and he watched Marcus take off down the hall quizzically.
“Library,” said Marcus over his shoulder.
“That’s mad,” said Adrian. “He’s going to the library without Bell? I can’t believe that girl has rubbed off on him like that!”
“I never knew Flint was aware that Hogwarts even had a library,” said Bole. “Then he started to date that Gryffindor and next thing you know, he’s going to library by himself and getting good grades.”
“Not to mention,” said Adrian. “He hasn’t shagged a Quidditch groupie in months!”
Both the Slytherins laughed then made their way to the next class. Adrian would, of course, say present when Binns called Flint’s name.
The Library: an hour later:
Marcus looked outside the window and watched the clouds go by against the bright blue sky with a sense of detachment. He turned back to the large pile of books in front of him with a sigh. An earlier sense of frantic panic had given way to this cool detached feeling he was currently having. Marcus wondered if he was in shock. There was no way around it, he was going to be a father in less than nine months time.
Marcus groaned and held his head in his hands. His head was pounding with stress. His parents were going to go mental. He shuddered when he briefly considered how Katie’s parents were going to react. But his mind shied away from that hideous scenario. His father’s reaction was going to be just as horrid and very, very unpleasant.
Marcus sat in his chair indecisively for several minutes. He was going to have to talk to Katie. He really didn’t think she knew. Suddenly a horrible thought occurred to Marcus. What if Katie felt unwell and went to Pomfrey for help? Pomfrey would tell her parents for sure. It was imperative that he and Katie controlled when and how they told their parents. It was just dumb luck that tomorrow was a Hogsmeade day. They could go to a medi-witch in the village. But first, he had to tell Katie.
Marcus left the library and was going to go to the Great Hall for supper when he found his feet leading him out to the Quidditch pitch and the Slytherin shed. He needed to go for a relaxing mind numbing broom ride.
As Marcus turned the corner to the broom shed, his jaw dropped. There on her knees was Angelina Johnson. She was in the midst of giving Adrian what looked to be an extraordinary blowjob judging from the moans Adrian was giving.
“Merlin,” gasped Marcus as Adrian’s eyes snapped open and Angelina gave a start of surprise. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to ummm…see…I was just getting…”
“Marcus,” said Adrian as he pushed up his trousers and grabbed Angie’s hand before she could run away.
“It isn’t what you think,” blurted a very embarrassed Angelina.
Both Slytherins looked at her askance.
“Please Angie,” said Adrian. “Marcus is not thick. I’m sure he could see what we were doing.”
“Yes,” said Marcus with a raised eyebrow. “Quite clearly too Johnson.”
“Merlin,” said Angelina as she closed her eyes in mortification.
“Don’t worry,’ said Marcus. “I was just here getting my broomstick. I saw nothing.”
“Thanks mate,” said Adrian as he dragged Angelina away.
Marcus took his broom and kicked off into the welcoming sky and flew around until his head cleared and he could feel his body again. He flew down and lay on the pitch on his back with his hands behind his head.
“I have to figure this out,” thought Marcus pensively. “These are the facts: Katie is pregnant. She doesn’t know yet. She is nearly seventeen but still sixteen.”
“And I love her. I have never felt this way about any other girl, even Persephone. My father wants me to marry in the next two years. He wants grandchildren. Well, the old man is going to get at least one. He should be pleased about that.”
“Merlin,” thought Marcus. “I’ve really known for hours what I should do. I should marry Katie. I was thinking of it anyway. In fact, I’m going to marry her. There, I have thought it.”
“I am going to marry Katie Bell,” said Marcus aloud. He grinned to himself as he said it again louder. A weight seemed to lift off of his shoulders as he said it. His heart felt light. Marcus began to plan how he should tell his kitten. She was going to be completely floored. Marcus grinned ruefully as he remembered his own reaction. He jumped when a voice interrupted his silent chat with himself.
“Marcus,” said Katie’s soft voice. “It’s late. You missed supper. I was worried when Terry said he hasn’t seen you for hours.”
Marcus jerked up to watch Katie approach him. His heart pounded as he looked into her pretty face. She didn’t look different. Actually, he noticed as she grew nearer, that she was unusually pale and she looked tired.
“I…. I was…just,” stuttered Marcus.
“You were flying,” said Katie as she kneeled beside him. “What’s wrong.”
“Just things,” said Marcus with surprise. “Why did you ask?”
“You always go flying alone and miss meals when something is bothering you,” said Katie.
“You look tired,” said Marcus quietly.
“I haven’t been feeling well,” said Katie absentmindedly. She opened the box she had been carrying. She had brought him out something to eat. Marcus smiled and reached up to tuck her hair behind one of her ears. “Aren’t you hungry?”
“Yes,” said Marcus as he began to eat. “Have you been feeling ill since this morning,” asked Marcus casually.
“No,” said Katie. “It’s more of an all day thing. My stomach is a little queasy. It will pass. If not, I’ll see Pomfrey. What did you do today?”
“It was the perfect opening,” thought Marcus. He put down the sandwich and reached out to pull Katie closer. He pulled them down onto the pitch. He leaned up on an elbow and gazed down at her pretty face. His hand skimmed down her slim body with wonderment. A surge of protectiveness went through him.
“Katie, do you remember the morning in my room. The time we saw fireworks?”
Katie giggled and nodded.
“Do you know how much I love you?” asked Marcus huskily.
“As much as I love you too?” said Katie as she reached up and touched his face.
“We have a spiritual bond,” said Marcus. “Love creates spiritual bonds.”
“Really?”
“Yes,’ said Marcus. “You’ve been taking a birth control potion, right?”
“Yes,” said Katie with confusion. “Remember, we kept on nearly forgetting to cast the charms.”
“We had the sex talk today,” said Marcus. “Charms are not 100% effective but potions are.”
“What?” gasped Katie. “Thank Merlin I take a potion.”
“But sometimes potions react badly with other potions.”
“I know,” said Katie. “That’s why you sometimes have to use gold or platinum cauldrons because potions are very delicate,” said Katie with surprise.
“The pepper up potion nullifies the effects of birth control potions,” said Marcus carefully.
“But it is so common,” said Katie with a frown.
“In fact, pepper up potion can cause a woman to be more fertile than normal,” said Marcus as his eyes searched her face.
Katie looked confused then a look of comprehension flooded her face and she stiffened.
“Marcus, what are you saying?” asked Katie through stiff lips.
“Katie, that morning in my room, you conceived our child.”
