To Be The Best of Friends
Hermione and Neville sat at the dinner table with Ron and Luna. They hadn’t got together very much lately because both Hermione and Neville were busy planning for the new school year. Luna sat serenely smiling at the couple before her patting her large belly. She and Ron had planned for a summer wedding before they found out that she was pregnant. Ron tried to get her to push up the wedding date, but Luna refused. She had always wanted to be a summer bride and nothing was going to change that. She had been six months pregnant at her wedding and didn’t seem to notice the stares of everyone around her that thought that the two of them should have quietly eloped somewhere rather than flaunt her pregnancy.
Molly was ecstatic to have a grandchild on the way, especially as it would now be legitimate. She already had six other grandchildren but she told Ron and Luna that she would be happy to sixteen more. Luna had promised to do what she could to help those numbers along. She was quite content to be Ron’s wife and stay at home taking care of him. Ron loved his wife and loved the fact that she doted on him. He had in fact married a less vocal version of his mother and he was extremely pleased with how his life was going.
“I invited you guys to dinner tonight to celebrate. We have some wonderful new,” Hermione said with a grin.
“Where are Harry and Draco? Shouldn’t they be here for this wonderful news?” Ron asked. The six of them had gotten to be great friends and did most things together.
“They had to cancel at the last minute, something came up. Harry said he would have everyone around to dinner over the weekend. Apparently Draco is pretty miserable right now.”
“I can’t believe how many pregnancies are going around right now. You’re lucking your not expecting, Hermione. Its really hard to be pregnant when its so hot out,” Luna said dreamily. “Of course, Snorkback Crumpets only breed in the summer.”
Neville tried to hold back his laugh and ended up blowing the wine he was drinking out through his nose.
“What’s so funny?” Ron demanded. He was used to people insulting his wife and he always defended her.
Hermione intervened before it got out of hand. “Actually, he is laughing because I am pregnant! Surprise!” she grinned. “I’m due in March!”
Luna grinned and jumped up to hug Hermione. “Congratulations! I’m so happy for you!” she squealed.
“Hey, congratulations, mate!” Ron said pounding Neville on the back with enthusiasm. “All our kids will be in the same year at Hogwarts together!”
Hermione grinned. “I know that they will all be great friends! Just like all of us.”
Luna was quiet for a moment and then said, “What house do you suppose all of the children will be in?”
“My children will be in Gryffindor of course!” Ron boasted.
“Mine as well!” Neville said holding up his wine and saying, “Here, Here!”
Hermione and Luna looked at each other and rolled their eyes. “I think that Sirius will be a Gryffindor,” Hermione said.
Ron laughed. “Agreed, but Draco will blow a gasket. He is sure that his heir will be a Slytherin.”
Luna shook her head, “He isn’t devious. He would never be sorted there. He could perhaps be a Hufflepuff. In fact, I am sure he will be.”
Ron and Neville both shook their heads in disagreement, but Hermione sat quietly for a moment. “You might be right, Luna.”
“No way!” Ron said. “A child of Harry and Draco would never go to Hufflepuff!”
“Think about it, Ron. Helga Hufflepuff valued hard work, loyalty, tolerance and fair play above all else. Is that not Sirius? He is loyal to a fault. He works very hard at every task that he sets out to accomplish. He has had to be very tolerant in his life with all that has gone on, and he definitely values fair play. Like Luna said, he is not devious. He doesn’t have a deviant bone in his body.”
Ron thought about this for a moment and then shook his head. “No way! He is going to be a Gryffindor. I’d bet on it!”
Hermione grinned. “What are the terms?” she demanded.
Ron’s smile widened. “Sure?”
She nodded, “Definitely!”
“Alright. If Siri goes to Gryffindor you have to sit through all the at home Chuddy Cannons games with me that year.”
“Agreed. And if Siri goes to Hufflepuff, You have to miss all the at home games for that year!”
“Hey!” he demanded, afraid.
“Having second thoughts?” she teased.
“Deal!” Ron said. He would never back down. “Wizards oath?”
“I invoke a wizards oath that If Sirius Potter-Malfoy is sorted into Gryffindor that I will attend all the at home quidditch games with Ron.”
“I invoke a wizards oath that if Sirius Potter-Malfoy is sorted into the Hufflepuff house that I will not attend a single home game for the Cannons.”
A blue light flared from the tips of both of their wands and circle around them to disappear moments later. “It’s done!”
“I hope you win, Mione. A season of not being stuck at Quidditch games would be so nice,” Luna whispered.
Hermione grinned. “I hate Quidditch!”
Neville smiled at his wife. “I hope you know what you just got yourself into.”
She smiled at him and blew him a quick kiss. “I do. So Luna, have you guys thought of any names yet?”
“Well, we have agreed on a name for a girl. Since I am due in October, we have decided that her name will be Autumn. We can’t agree on a boys name though.”
“She wants to name my son Feloopius. Can you imagine, Feloopius Weasley? That’s just not right!” Ron said with a shudder.
Hermione bit back a smile. He did have a point. “What do you want, Ron?”
“I want to name my son Alexander. Luna said it was to Muggle sounding and he would be teased for it though.”
“Probably not as much as Feloopius,” Neville muttered.
“Exactly!” Ron said hearing him.
“What about Alastair?” Hermione suggested.
“No way, that gives me nightmares of Moody.”
“He was very brave, Ron,” Luna said defending the ex-auror who had died in the final battle.
“Yes, and he was creepy too!”
“We have agreed on a middle name though,” Luna said softly.
“Ronald, after me,” Ron said proudly.
“Oh gods, can you imagine, Feloopius Ronald Weasley? Luna, that kid wouldn’t have a chance!” Hermione said, outraged for the unborn child.
Luna giggled. “I have to use the bathroom, come with me Hermione.”
“Why do witches always go to the bathroom in pairs?” Neville asked as they left.
“Got me!” they heard Ron answer.
“Luna, please tell me you are not going to name your son that awful name!” Hermione demanded.
Luna burst out laughing. “Of course not! I just don’t want to listen to Ron gloat about picking out our son’s name for the next two and a half months! I am going to magnanimously agree to Alexander after he is born.”
“Is it a boy then?”
“I don’t know. I want to do the test, but Ron won’t let me. He wants it to be a surprise.”
“I know the spell. We can do it right now if you want,” she said excitedly. It was one of the things that her and Poppy had been working on lately.
“Really? Oh, Hermione! It would have to be a secret though! Ron would kill me!”
“Here, sit down,” she said pointing to a chair. When Luna sat Hermione asked her to lift her shirt. She quickly waved her wand and muttered and incantation. Immediately a pink glow surrounded her belly. “It’s a girl!” she said.
Luna grinned. “I was so hoping for a girl!” She jumped up and hugged Hermione. “Remember, this is our secret. Shall we do you now?”
Hermione thought for a moment and then nodded. “It shall be our secret as well.”
“What are the words I need to say?” Luna asked pulling her wand out.
A moment later Hermione watched as her stomach glowed pink as well. “A daughter!” she said happily.
Luna shrieked. “I am so happy! Our daughters will be the best of friends!” she said.
Hermione grinned and grabbed Luna’s hand pulling her around in a circle, doing a happy dance. “This is so great.”
At that moment the door opened and another pair of witches entered. They stared in horror at Hermione and Luna and then slowly backed out of the room. The two witches collapsed back to the chairs in shrieks of laughter.
