The Chosen Secret Keeper
Thank you all for taking the time to review this story. You have been kind and quite motivating. I hope you all enjoy the turn that the story is about to make. Without further ado.............
Several Months Later……………….
Hermione’s stomach had swollen to a very large size; she was 8 ½ months pregnant now. She had stopped going to classes and had been put on bed rest after having a difficult time with the pregnancy. Draco had been bringing her homework so that she would not get behind in her classes.
Hermione had been extra moody because she was concerned with the end of year finals coming up. She had been reading volume after volume hoping to absorb enough of the content to be on par with the rest of the students that had been going to their classes.
Harry and Ron had been to see her regularly. Ron was still dating Luna, and Harry was very wrapped up in his relationship with Ginny. Neville had recently started going out with Hannah Abbott. Hermione personally thought this was a good match and could see them lasting awhile if not permanently.
Hermione liked her friends visiting because they kept her connected with the outside world. Professors’ Dumbledore and Snape regularly came to visit as well; they claimed to be keeping her informed and helping with any questions she had with her schoolwork but Hermione knew they were checking up on her. She knew that they expended a lot of energy around protecting Draco, her and the baby to be.
It had taken awhile but Hermione felt safe once again in the castle. Draco and she had been engaging in their physical relationship again until recently when her large size and rough pregnancy didn’t really make it comfortable for her. They still slept together in the same bed, and Hermione liked waking up in her husband’s arms.
Draco had been spending a lot of time with Harry and Ron and the rest of the Order of the Phoenix; he was intent on bringing down the Dark Lord and the rest of the death eaters. They had been planning for months, and Hermione could not wait till it was all over.
There had been multiple disappearances, and muggles were being tortured all over Great Britain. The three boys had been going on trips, and disappearing for days at a time. Draco would not tell Hermione what they were doing because he didn’t want for her to worry, but naturally she did.
It was a Tuesday and Hermione felt the sun peeking in her room. She woke up to an empty bed; Draco must not have come home last night. Hermione summoned Dobby to bring her some breakfast.
Dobby returned with some eggs, and bacon, sausage, toast, orange juice, and a blueberry muffin. Dobby bowed and asked, “Is there anything else I can do for you Missus Hermione?”
Hermione replied, “No thank you Dobby, you’ve done enough already.”
Hermione could see the tears starting to well up in Dobby’s eyes, and then he apparated back to the kitchens. Hermione started eating when she heard the door blast open. She quickly grabbed her wand from the nightstand and was ready to defend herself.
She gasped when she saw Professor Snape finally come running into her bedroom. He was out of breath but managed to come over to her side of the bed and say, “Quickly, I’ve got to get you out of here. Someone has knowledge of how to get in these rooms and they want to kidnap you and the baby.”
Hermione felt herself being lifted and put her arm around the professor’s neck. He carried her to the fireplace and flooed them to the Headmaster’s Office.
Professor Dumbledore looked relieved at the sight of Professor Snape and Hermione. He explained, “Hermione, I don’t think it is safe for you and Draco to be here any longer. We need to put you in hiding. Draco is working with Harry on bringing down Lord Voldemort. I will alert him of where you will be staying. You are going to be going to an ancestral home of Professor Snape. Lord Voldemort is unaware of the property, and only Severus and Draco and you will be able to get there. We are going to use a secret keeper. Do you have a preference of who you would like to use?”
Hermione’s lip was trembling. She was trying not to cry, but she was so afraid. She was trying to think of who would be the most trustworthy, but unsuspected person that she could entrust the location to. Suddenly a smile crossed her face and she had her answer.
Hermione replied, “Professor I know just the person. Could you please go and get Neville Longbottom here?”
Dumbledore readily agreed, but Hermione thought she saw Professor Snape roll his eyes. Dumbledore went to fetch Neville, and Hermione said, “Professor Snape I saw your expression back there, but you remember the ministry incident. Neville was ready to die before Harry gave up the prophecy and no one would think of him as a secret keeper. They would expect Harry, Ron or Ginny.”
Snape thought about what she was saying, and finally grunted in approval. The girl did have a point, although Snape personally thought that Neville was just another dunderhead; at least when it came to brewing potions.
Dumbledore came back with Neville in tow, and they explained what they needed from him. Neville got all red but happy that he was entrusted with such an important task.
Neville looked at Hermione and said, “Hermione, I’ve known you a long time, and you are one of the bravest people I know. I would be truly honored to be your secret keeper, and I would never tell anyone where you were, not even if they kill me.”
Hermione beamed back at him and replied, “I know Neville, that’s why you were my only choice.”
They quickly finished the process and the secret of where Hermione and the baby were going to be was inside Neville and Severus. Neville had to tell him otherwise Snape wouldn’t be able to take Hermione there.
Snape apparated with Hermione and took her to the couch to lie down. He made the room comfortable for her, and got her some tea and a blanket to lay over her. Snape told her he would be back shortly with the people that were going to be staying with her.
