Author's Note: Goodness, my life has been busy. Sorry for not updating on my story, but don't worry guy, I'm still writing it and working hard to make it nice and sweet. So, here's the next chapter...enjoy.
Chapter Thirty-Four
(My Friends Aren't So Great)
Snow took over the grounds of Hogwarts, turning everything within sight into a winter wonderland. That didn’t stop some of the students from enjoying the cold weather, donned in the heavy coats and house colored scarves.
On the other side of the lake, the new found couple walked together, hand in hand, enjoying each other’s company and the peace they had from their daily lives.
Plus this was date two, seeing how their relationship is progressing nicely within the last month.
Without further ado, Blaise engaged in another conversation with his fiery lioness. Something they prefer doing, among other things…
“So…have you told anyone about us dating yet?” The question has been bugging him for the last two weeks. He was dying to know if anyone noticed their mock fights weren’t believable.
Hazel eyes looked up at him and then moved to their connected hands. “Was I supposed to tell people?” She inquired, unsure. She thought having a few people knowing is fine, their friends and Professor Evans (she’s still not use to calling the woman by her name). If he wanted more people to know, meaning the whole school, she felt it was unnecessary to involve them in their private affair.
Besides, with Ron lurking about she felt that keeping their relationship on the DL is for the best.
He gave a little shrug, kicking snow up with his boot. “I thought it might be nice for people to see us together…within the halls. Not that I don’t like our mock fights.”
She shook her head, finding him to be silly at times and cute at others. She understood what he means, in the public’s eye they are fighting and calling each other’s name. Behind closed doors, they are attacking one another like the horny teenagers with raging hormones they were. As much as she liked the idea, she couldn’t stop thinking about the problem it would cause.
Ron Weasley name always popped up when she thought about them revealing their relationship to the others.
“It would be nice.” said Hermione, a little sigh followed after. “We shouldn’t be ashamed of what’s going on between us, but—” She trailed off, leaving the blink empty for him to fill.
Of course, Blaise rolled his eyes. “I don’t know why you put up with the weasel. He’s not worth the headache.”
She laughed, use to hearing him speak rudely about the red head. “He’s my friend, Blaise.”
“So are Potter and the weasel’s sister, which I find more tolerably than the weasel himself.” Actuality is something enjoyed pointing out, which caused Hermione to roll her eyes at him.
The dark skinned boy is impossible sometimes, she thought humorously. “I don’t speak badly about your friends.”
He scoffed, fixing the misconception she had on his friends. “Hermione, my friends are already spoken badly about. Personally, I feel that both Pansy and Draco will eventually drive me up the wall with the content annoyance.”
“They can’t be all that bad?”
He had to scoff again, explaining to Hermione how bad his friends truly were. “Who should I ruin first, Draco or Pansy?”
“Pansy, seeing how she’s the only girl in your group.” replied Hermione, finding this conversation to be more interesting.
Glad she picked the pug faced girl first; he went off his list of annoying perks that made Pansy Parkinson horrid. “God, she’s annoying! First thing every morning, I have to hear her screeching voice scream out Draco’s name. The way she dresses is tacky, even for her. Her hair holds too many products creating that artificial look. And her personality…it screams bitch. She interferes in everything, torment poor people to uphold information, and the biggest slut the school has ever seen, well third to Draco.”
Agreeing with those qualities, she decided to make it fair. “Since we’re talking about our friends, you can pick one of mines to make it fair.”
Liking those terms, he did the opposite. “Tell me something good about the weasel.”
Hermione opened her mouth, but shut it quick.
What about Ron is good?
“Tough isn’t it?” teased Blaise, seeing the look on her face.
She glared at him and resumed thinking. Good things about Ron…oh man. “Well, Ron is very good at sports.” She pointed out the obvious.
Blaise tittered at that joke. “Really, have you seen him play Quidditch? Sure, he has the brains of a great sport strategist, but plays poorly.”
Agreeing once again, she tried a different approach. “He’s smart when he applies himself and excellent duelist and has wonderful tactical abilities.” She smirked, proud that she could address Ron’s most amazing side.
Blaise couldn’t argue with that, seeing the boy at his best. “Touché, Mione, however,” Hermione winced, finding his use of “however” worst than hearing the word “but”. She looked up at him as he continued. “Why is it hard for you to tell him about us?”
Right on the nose, she couldn’t help but wonder why her boyfriend’s in Slytherin. With a brain like his, he would fit well in Ravenclaw. “You don’t know Ron like I do. With his temper and jealousy combines, it’s like trying to fight off an angry dragon with only a stick and no fire retardant armor to protect you.”
Clearly, she was exaggerating. He saw Weasley at his worst before. “If you don’t like him, it shouldn’t be hard. Just tell him you found someone better to satisfy you.” He couldn’t stop himself, vanity is his biggest sin and boasting about it stroked his ego just right.
“It’s easier said than done, Blaise.”
“What’s the problem then?”
Hermione sighed deeply, stopping them from walking further down the snowy path. “I can’t bear to see him hurt. I know he has feelings for me, he tries so hard to make it known that he fails miserably every time. It’s just…I cannot picture myself with him. I find the whole idea just wrong, especially when I cannot express those emotions back.”
Understanding where she’s coming from with this, he offered a little advice to get her started. “How about sitting him down, carefully explaining why you two cannot be together, tell him you will always be friends, and leave it at that.”
Leave it to Blaise to be straightforward, but Hermione still found it difficult to do. “Sure, I can do that and suffer two hours of him bitching and moaning about it.” It was true; she would have to listen to all the cons about dating a Slytherin.
Ron, even though the war’s over and everyone mellowed down about house rivalries, he still disliked the Slytherin house.
“Well, do you want me to tell him for you?”
Though the idea was nice, she shook her head. “No, this is something I must do. Harry and Ginny scolds me contently to tell Ron, but I haven’t found the right time to do it.”
Not wanting to push her, seeing how devastating this is for her, he pulled her towards him. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he kissed the wrinkles away. “I’m sure you will do the right thing and tell him.” He said so full of understanding that Hermione hugged him.
“Why are you so good to me?” She whispered against him, her face buried in his chest and arms tighten around him.
Blaise chuckled, the need to be vain again showing in his words. “I’m just that kind of guy, extremely handsome and quite the charmer.”
“We really need to work on the vanity issue.” muttered Hermione, seriously.
“Yeah right, Hermione.” She always said the most humorous things…
