She's Gone

Lilly sat on the sofa between her fathers and her brother sitting on floor in front of them. She wore her special necklace from Siri and she twirled it between her fingers. It made her feel safe and warm. Her bag was packed with all of her new items and her dolly that Draco had given her several years ago. She also had her favorite blanket packed into the bag. Her father had put a spell on it to make it small enough to fit but it would immediately go back to normal size when she pulled it from her bag. Her beautiful new kitten sat on her lap.

Both of her fathers were sad and trying to hide it from her, but she knew better. Siri had tears streaming down his face as he sat clutching his legs tight against his chest. They had formed a strong bond in the short time that they had been together. “Please don’t cry, Siri, I will be back soon.”

“I know, Lilly, but a year is a very long time. I will miss you so much.”

“Daddy will have a new baby for you to take care of. You must be brave.”

Siri smiled. “Dad is to have a surprise for us as well. The Malfoy heir is already born. The Black and Potter heirs shall be twins born on the day of their grandparent’s death. The birth of the heirs will forever bring joy to the day that brings pain to everyone’s heart. The three heirs shall unite these three noble Wizarding families forever in harmony. No Wizard, man, or creature shall ever be able to tear apart this bond. Several will try, but none will be triumphant.” Siri looked vacant for a moment and then smiled again at Lilly. “Daddy is going to have a baby as well.”

“Twins!” Harry groaned. One birth was bad enough, but two?”

“Oh god’s Harry, two of them? You don’t do things half way, do you?” Draco said. “Siri, do you know what my baby will be?”

“No, sorry dad.”

“Dad’s going to have twins?” Lilly giggled. “I hope you have a girl, Daddy. I don’t want to be the only girl!”

“You will always be my little Princess, Lilly. Don’t you like the idea of being the only girl in the house so that I can spoil you rotten?”

“Oh daddy, you are so silly! You will spoil any child in this house, even one that are not your own!”

Draco blushed. “Hey! Don’t give away my secrets! People will start thinking that I like kids!”

Siri and Lilly both laughed at this. “You do like kids, Daddy!”

“No I don’t! I’m a mean cranky man who gobbles children up!” he yelled grabbing the two giggling children and giving them kisses that sounded like gobbles. They both shrieked with laughter.

“Dad! Help!” Lilly screamed between bursts of laughter.

“Oh no, I know better than to get between a mean cranky man who hates kids!”

“He’s pretending, Daddy! He loves us!” Siri howled.

Harry laughed. He loved to hear the laughter of the children. He was still shell shocked at Sirius’ prediction. He never would have thought about having a set of twins. Sure, Lilly and Sirius were born on the same day and everyone assumed that they were twins, but they were not. Draco delivered Lilly and he delivered Siri. Now, however, he would deliver two sons at one time. God’s help him!

“I would like to see your memory ball, Lilly,” Harry told her. “I think that it would be fun record right now, so that you can remember how much fun we had right before you left.”

“No, dad, it would just make me sad. I will remember in my mind. If I heard it again it would make me miss you more.”

“Oh Lilly!” Harry cried pulling her into his arms. I don’t want to make you cry!”

Suddenly the four of them were hugging and crying together. “Don’t cry, damn it! This is supposed to be a happy time!” Draco wailed.

“I’m not crying, dad!” Sirius sobbed. “I’m smiling, see?” he said with a grimace.

“We are so pathetic!” Harry sobbed.

All of the sudden Lilly started to giggle. “You guys are crazy! I thought that boys were supposed to be strong!”

All three pairs of male eyes turned towards her in surprise. “We are strong!” Siri said. “Watch!” he said as he picked up the heavy footstool by himself.

“Hey, watch me!” Draco said with a grin as he lifted Harry up in the air.

“Draco! You are not supposed to lift anything heavy!” Harry shouted. Draco immediately put Harry down. “Watch me!” Harry grinned and then lifted Draco in his arms.

“Daddy! You can’t lift heavy stuff either!” Lilly shouted.

“See, Lilly! We are strong!” Siri said.

Lilly rolled her eyes and reminded Harry of Hermione when he and Ron missed the point that she was trying to make. “Men!” she said.

Harry and Draco looked at each other and laughed. Harry put Draco down and then sat down pulling him onto his lap. “I love you,” he said kissing him.

“I love you too, Harry.”

“You guys are to mushy!” Siri groaned.

Lilly grinned. “I like it!”

“That’s because you are a girl!” he told her.

“I like being a girl!”

“You like everything!”

“I don’t like brussel sprouts!”

“Nobody likes brussel sprouts!”

“I do!” Draco said.

“That’s because you’re weird, Daddy,” Lilly told him.

“No, its because I have good taste.”

“I might have to agree with the kids. Brussel sprouts are disgusting, Draco,” Harry said with a grin.

“Grandmother said that when you were a baby they were your favorite, daddy.”

“I used to like to peel them apart.”

“She said that you had atrocious table manners. What’s atrocious?”

“It means bad,” Harry said with a grin. He couldn’t believe his elegant and fussy spouse ever had atrocious manners.

“I never had bad manners!” Draco denied.

“Grandfather says that you have never known your place.”

“You can tell my father to take a flying…”

“Draco Malfoy, don’t you dare!” Harry said stopping him.

“Grandfather said I told you so.”

“Lilly why is your grandfather here? Why didn’t he cross over?”

“He said that he plans on making your life as miserable as you made his.”

“What! That is such bullshit!” he raged.

“Draco! The kids are here!” Harry said.

“It is not my fault that he was stupid enough to follow that psychopath! I obviously had more brains than to align myself with the maniac. He spouted his pureblood nonsense, but he wasn’t even a pureblood! My father chose to ruin his life, and it had absolutely nothing to do with me! I did not and I still do not believe that killing all Muggles and Muggleborn witch and wizards is going to help us!”

“He said that you have ruined the family.”

“Lilly, you do not have to act as a medium for him. If he speaks with you, just ignore him. I don’t want to hear anymore of his nonsense! Do you hear that father? You are dead and I no longer have to listen to your vile words!”

“Do you want to know what he just said?”

Draco looked at Harry and then shrugged. “Not really, dear. I am sure it was nothing important.”

“Grandmother said that she is proud of you, daddy.”

Draco looked startled and then grinned. “Because I finally told my father off?”

“No, because you were smart enough to figure out what you believed in on your own and then you were strong enough to stand up and defend that belief.”

A pop sounded in the room silencing them all. “Sirs, Mrs. Figg is here,” Flunky said.

Harry and Draco both looked at their daughter, not yet ready to say good-bye. Siri started to cry and Lilly looked resigned. “Please send her in, Flunky,” Harry said softly.

“Harry,” Draco whispered.

Harry pulled Draco into his arms and whispered, “Be strong. Don’t make this difficult for her.”

Draco nodded and stood up tall. “Well my little love, this will be quite an adventure for you!” he said with a smile.

“I wonder where you will go?” Harry asked.

“It will be wonderful, wherever it is!”

Siri wanted to be strong and brave for his sister, but he couldn’t stop the tears from falling down his face. His chest hurt and he just wanted to cry. He didn’t want to loose his sister and best friend. “Lilly,” he sobbed.

Lilly ran to her brother and hugged him tight. She immediately started to cry. The two of them held on tight to each other and sobbed. Both their little bodies shook in grief as they clutched tightly to each other. Neither one of them wanted to let go because they knew that it would be the end for a long time to come. “Siri!” Lilly cried, “I shall miss you so much!”

Mrs. Figg walked in the room to hear Lilly’s fevered declaration. She saw the looks on everyone’s face and knew that this was the moment she had dreaded her entire life. She remembered a similar scene when she left her family and knew that when she took her replacement the same thing would happen again. She looked at Harry and Draco who clung tightly to each other as tears rolled down their strong faces while they watched their children. She saw Lilly cling to the brother that she loved yet had had so little time with. She felt like an evil witch stealing this child away and wrecking her happy home. She also knew that it was necessary to protect Lilly from what could be much worse later. “It is time,” she said softly.

Lilly looked up and nodded her head. She gave her brother one last hug and stood. “I love you, Siri. I will never forget you,” she said kissing his cheek.

“Lilly,” he moaned clutching his stomach and sobbing.

“Daddy, I love you so much,” she said wrapping her arms around Harry. “Take care of Daddy and Siri. You are the strong one and they need you.”

“I love you also, Lilly. I promise to be strong for them,” he said stoically. He was used to being the brave one.

“Daddy,” she sobbed when she got to Draco. “I shall miss you so much!”

Draco took her into his arms and held her tight. He didn’t ever want to let her go. “I love you so much, Lilly Narcissa. You are my sweet little Princess. I promise I will think of you every day until we see each other again. If you ever need me, you know how to find me,” he said kissing her soft little lips. “Take good care of your kitten.” Draco turned to look at Mrs. Figg. “I hope that you don’t mind, but we have bought her a kitten to keep her from being lonely.”

“A familiar is always a welcome addition,” she acknowledged. “I will contact you in six months to give you an update. Please do not worry, I promise to keep your daughter safe and happy.”

Harry walked to Mrs. Figg and hugged her. “I know that you will. You helped me as a child and I know that you will help my daughter. If you need anything at all, please let me know.”

Mrs. Figg smiled at Harry. “I promise you, that we will be fine. I know that this is hard for all of you, but it is necessary.”

Draco glared at the old woman but held his tongue. He would never like this woman. He logically knew that she was only trying to help Lilly, but he couldn’t look past the fact that she was taking her away. He looked down to see Sirius still silently weeping and he reached over and scooped him up into his arms. “Don’t cry, love. It will be alright,” he said softly.

“I know,” Sirius said.

“We must leave now,” Arabella said. “Lilly, gather your things. I would ask that you lower your wards long enough for us to apparate out of here. It is the safest way for us to get to our first destination.”

Harry nodded. “I have already set the wards to accept you. Anytime you need to get in or out they will recognize you.”

Lilly handed her bag to Arabella and held her kitten tightly against her chest. Arabella pulled the small girl close to her and they disappeared with a pop.

“Wait!” Draco shouted. He wanted to hug her one last time.

“She’s gone, Draco,” Harry told him.

Draco stood there sobbing as he held his equally distraught son. A year was a long time away.

A/N: Please read and review. How did you like this chapter? Was it sad enough? Did it need more emotion? Everyone refers to Lilly and Siri as twins, and they are not...I thought that I would clear that up here...lol.
