A Day of Normalcy

Without further ado, our story continues..........

The next morning, the sun shone in on Hermione’s peacefully sleeping form. As she started to wake, the corners of her mouth curled up in a smile. She opened her eyes and saw her husband facing her. They had slept in the same bed for the first time since the incident.

Draco looked lovingly on the very pregnant form of his wife. He saw her smile as she awoke, and his heart was ready to burst when she opened her eyes and looked at him. After everything that had happened, he had half expected her to freak out after waking next to him; even though nothing had happened.

Draco started to move as to get out of bed, but Hermione stilled his form by grabbing his arm. She said, “Draco lets just stay here awhile.”

Draco lay back down, and kissed her forehead and replied, “Anything you want, love.”

The two of them just laid in each others arms for the morning. Finally after some grumbling, Draco summoned Dobby to bring them some breakfast. Both of them finally got out of bed around lunchtime. They both felt happy after spending the night and morning together. They were just talking. It was the most normal that life had been since they were married.

Hermione decided that she needed to stop shutting everyone out. She needed to go and spend some time with Harry and Ron and Ginny. She made her way to the Gryffindor tower.

When she said the password, the fat lady’s portrait swung open and she made her way into the Gryffindor common room. What she found made her gasp in surprise. She found Ron snogging passionately with none other than Luna Lovegood.

The blonde girl was sitting on top of the tall red head and neither heard her approach. Hermione cleared her throat loudly, and the two pulled away from each other to see who had interrupted them.

Ron was surprised to see Hermione and froze up. He was instantly concerned. Hermione had been in a period of self imposed isolation since her attack. He was very surprised to see that she was up in Gryffindor tower, and that she was unaccompanied.

Hermione said, “Hey Ron. Hi Luna, how are you both?”

Ron replied, “Hermione is everything okay? I haven’t seen you in awhile. I guess you see that I am dating Luna now…”

Luna giggled at this. Her radish earrings were dangling as she cocked her head and said, “Ron here helped me find some snorglinks near the forest about a month ago. We got kind of lost, and the rest was destiny. Who knew that I was living so close to such a passionate man my whole life?”

“Yes, well, umm…,” Hermione started. She had been trying not to laugh at the man comment. She was however happy that the two of them seemed to be a good match. She wanted nothing but the best for Ron, and she had liked Luna for several years now.

“Do you know where Harry and Ginny are? I thought that maybe we could all hang out, you know like old times. I’ve really missed everyone,” said Hermione. Ron could see the start of tears welling up in her eyes.

“Sure Mione. I’ll go get Harry and Luna can get Ginny, maybe we can go and have lunch down at the Lake,” said Ron.

Hermione nodded at this, and replied, “Let me go and tell Draco and see if he would like to come. I can’t wait.”

Ron stopped her and said, “Don’t walk back alone Hermione. I’ll walk you back and then I’ll go and tell Harry.”

As Ron had said this, Neville came down the stairs and into the Gryffindor common room. Upon hearing Ron offer to walk Hermione back, Neville stepped up to them and said, “Hey Hermione, Ron, I could walk Hermione if you need to do something. It would be my pleasure.”

Hermione beamed at him, “Thanks Neville. I would enjoy your company. Would you also like to join us for lunch down at the lake? I would love to catch up with you. How’s Herbology going for you?”

Neville and Hermione made their way toward the Head Boy and Girl’s dormitories. Neville was excitedly telling Hermione about an extra project he was working on with Professor Sprout. Neville walked her all the way to her common room.

Hermione saw that Draco wasn’t in their dormitory. She said to Neville, “Well it looks like you’ll just have to be my date for lunch.”

Neville just blushed at this and said, “Ah shucks Hermione, I’d be honored.”

The two made their way down to the lake and spread out the blanket. Hermione opened the basket that Neville had carried for her. She soon saw the smiling faces of Harry, Ginny, Ron and Luna making their way to the blanket. They spread out two more blankets and added to the supply of food.

Harry sat down next to Hermione and put his arm around her shoulders. Hermione leaned her head against his shoulder and said, “Thanks Harry, for always being here for me. Thanks for having patience.”

Harry replied, “Mione, you know we all love you. I’m willing to give you any time that you need, but I am happy that you would like to spend time with us again. I’ve missed your incessant nagging about our schoolwork. And what do you think about Ron and Luna?”

Hermione smiled back at him and said, “I’ve missed you too. You can come to our room to do your schoolwork so I can make sure you are still on track, and I think that Ron and Luna are cute.”

Hermione spent a wonderful afternoon with all of her friends. She felt a sense of normal that she hadn’t felt in a long time. She felt powerful; Voldemort did not succeed. He may have violated her, but she was stronger than he took her for. She was not giving up on her life; it actually only made her want to bring them all down more.
