Chapter Thirty-Two
Ok, shortly we're going to run out of past things to write about, so expect things to shift to mainly being in the present soon. Not yet though.
Lentesco – Chapter Thirty-Two
Aidan sat in a cubicle, reading the book he had managed to ‘borrow’ from Lucius. Some of the information in it was frankly frightening – even more so than the curse that Severus had been stuck with.
Here it is! He scrutinised the page carefully, face falling as he realised what would cure Severus. Somehow, he didn’t think the older man would go for it, even if it meant being free of the problem.
And Harry sure as hell didn’t want Severus trying it.
He read the section very very carefully, making sure he had missed nothing, then got up and made his way back to the common room, hoping to find Lucius’ bag there so that he could return the book.
He also hoped to find Severus, so that he could say goodbye. He knew he needed to get back to his own time. His own Severus needed him. This one he couldn’t help, not for a good couple of decades yet.
Lucius’ bag was there. Severus was not.
Harry returned the book and sighed, waiting as long as he could in the common room. Where was Severus? He looked about him, trying to remember every single detail. Part of him didn’t want to return, he had enjoyed it here, being a student who wasn’t special, or chosen, or famous. Just being ‘Aidan Marshall’. And here he was able to be with Severus. Something which seemed unlikely ever to happen in the ‘real’ world.
So, why should he return?
He was just settling comfortably into a chair, determined to stay, when the door opened and Albus Dumbledore entered the room.
“Ah, Aidan,” he said, after he had scanned the area and found the boy. “Time to go.”
Harry felt tears pricking his eyes. “I don’t want to, sir. I’m happy here.”
“I’m sorry, Aidan. Harry. My elder self was most insistent upon this point: you must return to your own time today. You now know how to help Severus?”
He nodded. “Yes, but I don’t see how it can ever happen! Severus won’t agree to it!” He bit back a sob. “It’s not fair, sir! We are happy now. We’re not in the future.”
Albus put an arm around the distressed boy. “Aidan. Harry. You have tried. If nothing comes of it at least you will know that you did your best.”
Harry choked, then sniffled. “OK, sir. Can I say goodbye to Sev?”
Albus glanced at the clock. “Time is running short, Harry. Your permission to remain only lasts until the end of today. I am unsure of Severus’ exact location, and, personally, do not think it will be helpful for you to see him. I will see him myself and explain. Of course, I will also tidy away any belongings you may have left behind.”
He led Harry out of the Slytherin common room and along to his own office.
“May I just say,” he said, as he pointed his wand at Harry, “that I am looking forward to meeting you in the future?”
Harry’s vision blurred.
