Chapter 30: Alicia’s Visit
Hermione
waited until she was sure that school had ended and then went to get the rest
of what she had intended on getting everyone for Christmas. She was thinking
about Alicia’s letter and why she wanted to visit her. She was sure that it
wasn’t due to the lost time that they had to make up. She finished shopping and
then went to get things for tea and then returned home.
When she
got home she saw that Severus was waiting on her. She smiled sweetly and then
wrapped her arms around him. He did the same.
“I’m tired,” she
told him, feeling it suddenly sink into her bones like a dead weight.
“I heard what
happened,” he told her.
Hermione looked at him.
“Who told you?”
she asked, hoping that he wasn’t going to say Remus.
“Remus did,” he
answered.
She groaned and closed her eyes.
“Do you want to
sleep?” he asked.
Hermione nodded and picking her up, he led her to the
bedroom.
Hermione
slept for the rest of the day and was wide-awake when the morning sunshine hit
her face. She got up, noticing that her husband was gone, and went to the Three
Broomsticks to get some breakfast. As she entered she saw Alicia standing
there, talking to Madam Rosmerta.
“Hermione,” Alicia
called when she saw her.
Hermione yawned and then walked over.
“What’s wrong with
you?” Alicia asked her.
“Still a little
tired,” she said, telling her that she was now so tired from the baby that she
didn’t want to even have sex, which was something that she wasn’t use to.
“Do you think that
you need to talk to a Healer?”
Hermione shook her head.
“Madam, could you
get us both two servings of your big breakfasts?” she asked.
“Of course,” she
answered.
And the barmaid left.
They took
their seats and Hermione at once asked her why she wanted to visit. Alicia
became a different person at that question.
“Because I don’t
think that it’s fair that you were treated like that, even your husband as
well,” she answered. “I told my husband about it, well as much as he could
understand, and he agreed that I should come here and talk to you.”
“Um, that was very
nice of you,” Hermione said. “But I’m doing fine.”
“And your work?”
“Well,” she said.
“Severus will be gone when the students return for term and I’ll have all the
time to figure out what’s going on here. So have you talked to the Headmaster?”
“Yes, and he was
rude,” Alicia said. “He didn’t even care that this was damaging to a marriage.
Like that man has been married before.”
Hermione grinned just as the food arrived.
Hermione
and Alicia ate in silence, only stopping to talk when they were finished. She
told her that a Healer already told her that her child would have magic.
“He or she will be
a half-blood, but I don’t care,” she said, smiling and blushing. “Dudley is
very happy that the child will at least be healthy.”
“Well the child
won’t be healthy long if you feed him or her whatever he thinks a child should
have.”
Alicia looked at her.
“I’ve already told
him that I’m controlling what he or she eats.”
“And what did he
say to that?”
“He said that he
was fine with that as long as it wasn’t vegetables alone.”
Hermione was suddenly hit with what Harry had told her
during his fourth year about Dudley being on a diet.
“I’m sure that
everything will turn out alright in that area.”
“Me too,” Alicia
said.
