At dinner, Lavender greeted Seamus as if she’d been gone a week, not twenty minutes, sending her news straight into his eyes. Saw the joy of his reaction as he flung his arms around her. Ginny quested a send into Hermione’s mind, {What?}. Hermione grinned at her lover, her eyes tired, she sent her everything. Ginny sent back an, {Oh. So we’ll be without an essence?. Will that matter much?}. Hermione loved how her bond-mate’s mind worked. Alighting immediately on the problem at hand. {It might, but it shouldn’t be too bad, although it may mean that they aren’t so effective, and their Magic won’t go up to the next level}.
Ginny was thoughtful, {Does that mean that they could actually be a liability, a weak point in our defences?}. If it were humanly possible for Hermione to love her Girlie any more, then she just did. {No, probably not, but they’ll be in the Order defence line not the Ten. Their powers are stronger than the Orders’. So if push comes to shove, they could lead them}. Ginny gazed in total besotted admiration at her lover’s quick thinking, to feel the look returned. Hermione shrugged, {This is why you are my bond-mate, lover}, and, both lost to their surroundings, they kissed, long and deep, until a sent, {Get a room} brought them round.
They drew away, blushing and giggling and attended to their meal. Harry sent, {What’s going on, girls?}. Hermione glanced at him, then tapped the side of her nose with a fingertip. That closed the issue for now.
The next day was madness as School broke up. A last shared breakfast with old friends, the occasional panicked request for an address, previously lost. Heartfelt appeals to, “Write. Let us know how it all goes, or if you need us...”, and the school fell silent as the last coach rolled away. The Ten ranged on the steps, waving as their friends left for the last time.
As one, they turned and went indoors with heavy hearts, sniffles being heard among them. Arms placed around lovers’ shoulders. Comfort given, received. Seamus and Lavender deeply upset at the loss of Dean and the Patel twins. They were not the only ones feeling losses.
Harry was actually quite cheerful, although he was aware of the sadness around him. He had his favourite people in the whole world around him and he felt blessed and truly loved. His heart swelled, and he sent a blast of energy out to his friends around him, feeling even Seamus and Lavender’s moods lift. He sent to them all, {Well. It’s just us now. Us, and the Order, who will arrive over the next few days}. They stumbled silently to their quarters, past the gazes of concerned staff, ignoring them, some wiping tears from their cheeks. Hermione sent to them all, {I think we all need to go and get wasted. Don’t you, chaps?}. To nine mental nods. Nine laughs. Along the way, Lavender sidled up to Hermione, a beam on her face, {Meant to give you this earlier}, Hermione felt cold glass pressed into her hand, a sent, {It’s all here. Came on this morning, thank Merlin. Just forgot for a moment seeing the twins off}. Hermione flung her arms around her soon-to-be- bond-mate and gave her a hearty kiss on the cheek. Another crisis averted.
Hermione diverted off to the lab, to put Lavender’s essence bottle in the fridge, checked her Potions and left, carefully locking the door. She nearly bumped into Snape as she left, her head down, deep in thought. He held his hands out, stalling her. She returned, shaking her head, {Sorry, sir. I’ve got the last essence now and I wasn’t watching where I was going}. He noted the ecstatic look on the girl’s face and answered with a smile that met his eyes, {When do you finally put it together?}. She could feel the palpable excitement pouring from her teacher. She placed a finger over her lips, {Ssshhh. Soon. And I’ll let you know. Never fear about that, sir}. She turned to leave.
Severus halted her with a gentle send, {Hermione?}, she paused, {Yes}. He continued, {If you and I are to be colleagues, then it’s Severus, please}, this last a little hesitant. He saw her shoulders stiffen, then relax. She turned slowly, smiled, {I thank you, erm, Severus. I think we will get along famously as colleagues}, she inclined her head slightly, grinning, then turned and left, her step light.
They all piled into Harry and Draco’s flat. It took plenty of prodding before Hermione gave up what was making her grin like a loony. So she composed herself and told them, glaring and sending, {Don’t you dare take the piss, okay?. It was meant well}. Draco giggled, {None taken, ‘Mione. I’m just a bit amazed is all. Snape’s taken a real fancy to you, hasn’t he?}. She felt a vestige of his old Slytherin smirk into her mind, {Removing a Dark Mark can affect a body, don’t you know?}, she smirked in reply.
As she’d predicted, they all got supremely stoned on Fred and George’s wacky weed that afternoon, pairing off for ‘siestas’ in due course and meeting up again in the boys’ flat as the sun was dipping. Dobby did them all proud that night, serving up a feast of such magnificence, words failed them. So Harry taught Dobby to ‘send’ and they all transmitted their thanks to a stunned House-Elf, who broke at least three plates in his eagerness to please, ‘til Hermione took over. Placing things in orderly piles in his arms as he disappeared again.
He appeared again a moment later, delivering two crates of lager, and with a laugh, vanished again.
Hermione was busy rolling a full-size blunt as her Girlie popped her a can and handed it to her, kissing her. She took several long swallows, then set it down beside her, concentrating on the operation at hand. Full size meant over a foot in length. She held it in her teeth, grinning wickedly around it as she lit it. It was enough to go around the Ten several times. As it grew shorter, people dipped out of the sharing until the last four inches, Hermione had to herself. She laid back against the settee and finished it with a grin. {Music, boys}, she commanded, and Harry rose, somewhat unsteadily and provided it, randomly tuning up and down until he got the most ‘Ayes’, then sank down with his Dragon again.
They watched as Hermione and Ginny got up to dance, then the other six. Draco was too huge and too tired. Hermione saw Harry give a tiny huff of disappointment, then snake his arms about his lover, folding them over his belly, to receive a searing kiss from his Dragon in return. Hermione grinned as she leaned back into her lover’s embrace, letting the beats take over.
Several hours later, and the rest of the Ten wandered back to their rooms. Hermione had got a dance out of Harry when Draco crashed on the sofa. But in short order, Harry lifted his bond-mate effortlessly into his arms and took him to bed, the others all leaving, as if on cue.

The next morning, after a lazy breakfast, Hermione passed out parchment envelopes, one each, for the Ten, each person’s name written neatly on the front. {Hair, chaps, five each from head, pits and groin. Give them to me by tomorrow morning, please, and they have to pulled out, not cut, I need the bit of skin that comes with them, DNA, don’t you know}. Various faces screwed up at the thought of what this thing was going to taste like. Pansy articulated this for everyone, when she mumbled, {I hope you’ve put some flavouring in this Hermione, otherwise we’ll all just throw up and waste the Potion}. Hermione grinned, {I’ve thought of that, don’t you worry, and only a single drop from each essence jar is actually added to it}, there were sighs of relief all round. She knew this wasn’t strictly true, but she had the flavour all worked out.
The day was overcast and muggy. The Ten split up and went their different ways. Some back to their rooms. Ron and Blaise went outside for a fly, braving the oppressive heat. Ginny looked hot and a bit cross. She really didn’t like the excessive humidity and feeling sweaty all the time. Hermione smiled at her lover, {Come on, I know somewhere cool}. She took Ginny’s hand and led her towards the library.
Irma Pince had gone away for the holidays and the place was deserted. Hermione loved the smell in here. All that musty parchment and old leather bindings. Ginny felt the cold air wash over her and shivered slightly, {Mmm, it’s cooler in here all right}, she rubbed her bare arms. Hermione made a bee-line for the door and, fumbling a little with the large key, she soon had it open, pulling her bond-mate along the dark corridor, before flinging open the door at the end. She stepped back, letting Ginny in before her, amusedly noting the other girl’s amazement. {Brilliant isn’t it?}. Ginny nodded open-mouthed. {This is to be your room next year?}. Hermione pulled Ginny to her and kissed her long and deep, {No, baby, ours. We’re bond-mates, lover, and battle or not, if we get through the next few weeks, then we have to be together as bond-mates should}.
Ginny giggled, {I think my dorm-mates had the idea that I would be re-joining them next year, this will really make them jealous, not that they aren’t already. Can we have, like, get-togethers in here?. Thing is, I’ve kind of missed the girls this term. They’re good lasses, you’ll get on with them, particularly Steffie, she’s a laugh}. Hermione gazed into her lover’s eyes, {‘Course we can, love. To be honest, I feel we’ve separated too much from others, and I feel bad for taking you away from all of your other friends}. Ginny threaded her hands into Hermione’s hair either side of her head, pulling her close and kissing her, {I came willingly, Missy. No-one forced me and I love being with you. You’re an inspiration to me and I love you so much, you cannot imagine}.
Hermione drew away slightly and smiled, {I’m going to miss Harry and Ron so much next year, Draco too, and the others. It will be good to make some new friends}. Ginny grinned, {Sounds like you’ll have friends on the Staff as well. Face it, Snape is besotted with you, McGonagall thinks the sun shines out of your bum, and Madam Pince has given you a job to keep us together}. Hermione pressed their foreheads together, {I hadn’t quite thought of it like that, but now you come to mention it}, she sighed and smiled into her lover’s eyes, feeling suddenly bashful, a flush rising, {I know I’m a bit cheeky with Snape, erm, Severus. Maybe I should chill it out a bit, but he’s so buttoned up, I can’t help myself}, she chuckled.
{It’s the mischief part of being an Elemental, my love. You were pretty buttoned up yourself, let’s be truthful, here. I mean, I’ve heard from Ron, how you always used to draw up revision calendars and that sort of thing, yes?}. Hermione nodded, {I’m not sure what’s happened to me, but I didn’t do them this year, even though these are the biggest exams we do at School}. Ginny laughed, {You loosened up, my love. You looked up from your books and there was a life out here. And you trusted your friends, properly, for the first time. Blaise is a good student, kept Ron’s somewhat feckless nose to the grindstone. Draco kept Harry at it, too, although sometimes, I got the feeling that Harry was entirely self-directed, Draco is the better student of the two. Also the increase in Magical powers has increased everyone’s brain-power so much, mine included}, she shrugged, affecting nonchalance, {And you really are the centre of all this. Your power spills all over us like a shower of rain, and we bathe in it, even though when it comes to the crunch, it will be about Harry and Draco}.
Hermione couldn’t doubt the wisdom in her lover’s words, or the truth. For a moment, she felt the sheer weight, then with a movement of her shoulders, rolled it off her, her spine straightening, she stretched, even while Ginny still held her, extending her arms over her head. Ginny let her go and stepped back, watching, a tiny smile playing with her mouth, as Hermione growled as her body reached her limits, and she folded over at the hips, continuing the stretch, her head almost touching the floor.
She stood straight and took Ginny into her arms again, kissing her deeply, {Thank you, baby}. As they came up for air, Ginny gestured over Hermione’s shoulder at a humped piece of furniture with a dust-sheet thrown over it, {What’s that, lover?. I thought you said this room was empty}. They parted and Hermione crossed the room and yanked the cloth away. A chaise longue, upholstered in deep green velvet, a note pinned to it. From Irma, wishing the girls fun with this beautiful piece of furniture as she had no room for it in her own quarters. “Consider it a house-warming gift”, the note said
As Hermione admired it, Ginny was divesting herself of clothes. She dived onto it, naked, and Hermione gasped, stepping back. {Go see if Madam Pince has parchment and pen, Missy, then draw me on this thing. And before you object, I’ve seen the other drawings, the ones you did at Easter, and they’re beautiful}. She arranged herself into a provocative pose and Hermione’s mouth went dry. She rushed from the room returning moments later with several sheets of parchment, pen and ink.
She sank, cross-legged to the floor, then rose again, crossing to her lover, kissing her, re-arranging the pose slightly. Ginny had her hair fanned out over one arm that was behind her head, resting on the arm of the chaise, her body slightly twisted, one leg crooked at the knee, her spare hand draped over her hip, pointing at her exposed sex. The sight took Hermione’s breath clean away. Ginny smiled at her as she retreated, seating herself, drawing parchment towards her and dipping the pen.
For three quarters of an hour, she scratched away. Abandoning two pieces, laying two more aside, she began a fifth that worked. A soft smile as her pen scraped over the parchment, occasionally, she licked a finger, rubbing it over the piece, her colour heightening. Even while she sat completely still, Ginny could feel the waves of erotic creativity pouring from her bond-mate, her brow deeply furrowed, she was in full flow, her fevered eyes flicking between her lover and the page, her expression pinker and more heated, until Ginny could take it no more, {Come to me, lover. Put your pad down and come to me}, she caught her look, their eyes burning into each other. Tonight, they were equals. Hermione laid the paper down, crawling on hands and knees, her gaze never leaving Ginny’s, she reached the chaise and stood, slowly undressing under her bond-mate’s lustful scrutiny, some imaginary music playing in her head, she moved to the rhythm, gyrating her hips as she stripped, running hot hands up and down her body.
Ginny allowed her hand to dip between her legs, playing with herself as Hermione watched, spellbound, moving closer, she straddled her lover and lay down on top of her, trapping Ginny’s hand between them, rocking them together. Ginny plunged her free hand into Hermione’s curls, pulling her down, and kissing her, slowly and deeply, as they moved together in the eternal dance. Ginny’s fingers working both of them. Hermione exploded first with loud cries and Ginny held her as she came down, stilling her hand and withdrawing it from between them. As her Missy’s breath normalised, she opened her eyes to pools of green-grey brimming with want.
She kissed Ginny, then, soft teasing kisses that ravished her lover’s mouth, then over her jaw, along her neck, taking her sweet time. Ginny ground her teeth and pushed in her impatience, and Hermione read her perfectly, giving in this time, taking her lover over the edge with a fierce hard tongue, harder fingers, until Ginny moaned loudly, gripping her lover’s fingers tight in release, arching her back, clutching handfuls of Hermione’s hair.
Hermione calmed her Girlie with sweet kisses and hugs, holding her tight, murmuring sweet words, and they started at a send from Harry that made them sit up suddenly, {Ginny, your Mum and Dad are here}. The girls stared open-mouthed at each other. They knew that the Order had been Summoned, but Hermione had let it slip her mind that this meant Arthur and Molly Weasley. Neither Ron nor Ginny had apprised their parents as to the current situation. {We’re, erm, on our way. Give us a moment to get ready}. They felt Harry’s dirty chuckle in their minds, {Don’t panic, they caught us all equally unprepared}. They all sent laughs and Harry closed his connection.
