Chapter 30- The Night Before

Chapter 30- The Night Before

Albus was still sitting in the chair beside the bed when Hermione awoke. Albus leaned forward as she opened her eyes. “How do you feel my dear?” he asked.

“Tired, but all right. Albus, what are you doing here?” Hermione responded.

Albus chuckled lightly. “I told Severus I would stay for a while. He decided he could use a nap as well. He also told me what happened; now I want to hear your side of the story.”

“Well, we were making the truth potion. Severus had told me, Ron, Lavender, and Harry to be careful. My potion was at the simmer phase when suddenly the student next to me’s potion began to bubble. I heard Severus yell for everyone to get down and he started running toward me. Then I saw this white light come from my stomach. Suddenly there was a protective shield that protected everyone from the potion and the explosion that happened. Then I passed out.” Hermione answered.

Severus began to stir and opened his eyes. He looked over and found his wife sitting up and talking to Albus.

“Hello Severus. Did you sleep well?” Albus asked.

“Yes sir. How do you feel Hermia?” Severus asked as he sat up beside his wife.

“I’m fine, just a little tired.” She answered.

“Poppy came by. She said it was our baby that created that shield in the class. She said it seems our baby prefers you to be invincible.” Severus said.

“I guess so. That could come in handy.” Hermione said as she giggled.

Marcus stood there. ‘I hope Draco finds the information I sent useful. If so, I’m sure to get anything I want.’ Marcus thought evilly.

Fifteen minutes later Sirius and Minerva walked in. “You wanted to see us Severus?” Minerva asked as she sat on the edge of the bed.

“Yes. Did you two hear about what happened today in Hermione’s potions class?” Severus asked.

“No.” Minerva shook her head.

“What happened?” Sirius questioned.

“Well, we were making the truth potion. A Gryffindor must have added the wrong ingredient and the potion began to boil. I yelled for everyone to get down while running to Hermione. It seems our child has the ability to protect his or her mommy. The baby released a protective shield that kept everyone in the classroom safe.” Severus explained.

“Are you sure? I mean, are you and the baby all right Hermione?” Sirius asked.

“I’m fine Minerva. Poppy said I would be tired but I’m okay. She even said if I was feeling up to it I could go to dinner.” Hermione answered.

“As long as you and the baby are safe that’s all that matters. Was there something else you wanted Severus?” Minerva said while she hugged Hermione motherly.

“Actually yes. You both know that on Friday Harry, Hermione and I are going through with the plan.” Severus said. Sirius and Minerva nodded. “Well, Ron, Ginny and Lavender are going to be waiting with you two and Albus in his office. I want you two to be extra alert. We can’t take any chances of mistakes. I will not lose another child to that monster. I also want the Aurors and Order members to be more alert than usual. Alright.” Severus said.

“Don’t worry. Everything will be fine. You three just be careful. We will take care of everything else.” Sirius said.

Later that night Marcus was standing beside the staff table while everyone was eating dinner. He was trying to find out what they were going to do the next night. ‘Come on. One good piece of information. That’s all I need.’ Marcus thought.

“I’m glad you’re feeling better Mione.” Lavender said.

“Me too. So, what did I miss in class?” Hermione asked.

“You should have seen it. Some Hufflepuff started talking bad about you and Severus. Ron pulled out his wand and cursed the student with coughing up slugs. Professor Sprout didn’t do anything just sent the student to the infirmary. From what I hear the kid is still spitting up slugs.” Lavender said giggling.

“I see you finally got that curse right and it didn’t backfire.” Harry said laughing, along with everyone else.

Dinner continued with the friends laughing and Severus talking with Sirius about final preparations. Marcus was getting impatient. Once dinner was over he followed Severus and Hermione back to their rooms. They changed for bed and sat before a roaring fire.

“Severus, are you worried about tomorrow night?” she asked.

“A little. Are you?” he said.

“Not really. Now that I know our baby wants me to be invincible I feel a lot better about going tomorrow night.” She said.

Severus nodded as he held her a little tighter to him. Hermione snuggled deeper into his embrace. Before long he looked down and saw that she had fallen asleep. He scooped her into his arms and carried her to the bedroom.

‘She had a long day. I’m just glad that both she and the baby are alright.’ Severus thought as he tucked himself and Hermione under the sheets.

“If anyone can hear me up there, please let tomorrow night go smoothly without any complication.” Severus whispered to the heavens above, hoping they heard his prayer.
