Chapter 29: A Strange Meeting

            Hermione
left her small apartment and headed into Muggle London. She needed to start
picking up Christmas presents so that she wouldn’t have to worry about that
when the time came. The November wind made Hermione stagger as people
complained about what they wouldn’t have and some complained what they wish
they didn’t have. Hermione got a nice scarf for Mrs. Weasley and a toolbox for
Mr. Weasley. She decided that this year she wouldn’t give Harry and Ron
anything because they had been bastards in her eyes.

   “Miss Granger,”
said a cold voice like the wind.

Hermione turned to see a man that had made her life terrible
when she had been in Muggle School.
He gave her a cold look and she shook.

   “Well Miss Granger
why aren’t you in school?” he asked.

Hermione didn’t know what to say and then he grabbed her.

   “I’m taking you
home and then explain to your parents that you skipped school.”

Hermione had no choice but to be led away.

            When they
arrived back at her home he told her parents that he had caught her skipping
school. Hermione knew that her mother wanted to tell him the truth, but they
knew that he wouldn’t believe them. Jane told him that she would take care of
Hermione and then he left.

   “Can you believe
that man,” Hermione snapped. “Thinking that I missed school.”

Her mother sighed, but her father laughed.

   “I tell you that
man needs to get himself a life,” he stated. “Thinking that you would break the
rules like that. However, I think that it would have been funny to see his face
when he realized that you didn’t go to school, at least one that he’s heard of.”

   “And get me into
trouble, no thanks,” Jane said. “Hermione, you’re going to have to wait until
term ends before going shopping. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of that man.”

   “I agree,” Hermione
said.

And she Disappearated.

            When
Hermione arrived back home she noticed that Remus was there along with Lily.
She smiled at both of them and then told Remus about what happened when she
went into Muggle London.

   “So what does this
man do?” Remus asked.

   “He makes sure that
children are in school,” Hermione explained.

   “And he caught you,”
Lily said.

Hermione nodded.

   “Want me to tell
Severus?”

Hermione shook her head and explained that she would wait
until Christmas before she went back to London.

   “So what are your
plans for Christmas?”

Remus went pink and this told Hermione that Remus would be
spending it taking care of Lily and that he didn’t mind.

   “I was hoping to
visit the Burrow,” Lily said. “Remus told me all about it and I’m looking
forward to seeing Arthur and Molly again.”

   “Well I’m sure that
they’ll be happy to see you,” Hermione told her.

   “Thanks,” Lily
said, blushing. “Hermione, I would like to say that I’m sorry about not
believing you when you told me what my son had done. I should have known that
you wouldn’t lie about something like that.”

   “You’re forgiven,”
Hermione answered. “You haven’t seen your son in a long time and you didn’t
know what kind of wizard he had become. And speaking of wizards, some woman
told me that my daughter will be born a wizard. I don’t know what that means.”

   “Should I ask the Headmaster?

Hermione bit her lip.

   “I don’t know,”
Hermione said. “I’m sure that she’s just making it up.”

Remus gave her a strange look that told her that she might
be fooling herself.

   “So, how long does
Severus have now before he leaves Hogwarts?”

   “A month,” Hermione
said. “Fleur will be there when the students return after New Years.”

   “I wonder how Harry
is going to handle that.”

   “I don’t know,”
Hermione said stiffly. “And I don’t care personally.”

            When Remus
and Lily had left Hermione was left alone with her thoughts. She knew that the
woman was lying, but that didn’t stop her from worrying about her daughter. She
turned this all over in her mind and then the arrival of an owl broke her from
her thoughts.

Dear Hermione,

I was hoping to come and visit you tomorrow. Please owl me
back with your response.

Alicia Dursley

Hermione responded at once, telling her that it was alright.
