Chapter 31 ~ Epilogue
Dumbledore allowed Hermione and Severus to view Odessa’s pensieve. Hermione collapsed in tears as she witnessed the brutalization of the witch as a child. There were blank spots in the pensieve where the witch had transformed into the panther, since she could not remember what the creature did. But the bloody aftermath was apparent, as she cleaned up the bodies.
Dumbledore did a bit of creative editing before turning the pensieve over to the Ministry. He removed Odessa’s witnessing of Severus saying he was an unregistered animagus, and the couple making love on the grounds. He removed Marcus’ manipulations completely, as well as his treatment by Hermione. Marcus’ rescue of the couple that night was not recorded, due to Odessa being the panther, but Severus and Hermione testified to his aid. Dumbledore seemed to feel that he had redeemed himself from not disclosing Odessa’s nature by saving the couple, but the blonde wizard was still suspended for three weeks. He deserved some punishment, actually much more than he received, but Marcus was the best DA teacher Hogwarts had seen in a long time, and Dumbledore was reluctant to let him go.
“Mr. Delaluci,” the Headmaster said to the blonde wizard stretched out in the armchair before his desk, “I trust that your three week suspension will be spent in positive pursuits? I hear the islands are lovely this time of year.” The Headmaster’s eyes twinkled.
Marcus hadn’t thought of that. He could spend time with Cassandra. But gods…after all he’d done, how would she greet him? She could give a hell of a tongue-lashing, but was so beautiful doing it. Marcus drifted off, thinking about how desirable the Obeah was when she was angry.
Dumbledore cleared his throat, and Marcus looked at him. The Headmaster held out a long thin package.
“When you see Cassandra, please give this to her. A small gift. Something she was wanting,” he said, smiling. Well, now he had a reason to show up on the island other than slinking back like a dog with his tail between his legs. He didn’t know the Headmaster knew Cassandra. Marcus had the feeling he was being strongly manipulated here. Somehow, he didn’t mind.
“Certainly, sir,” Marcus said, rising from the chair, ready to depart his presence, “is that all, Headmaster?”
Dumbledore looked at him.
“No,” the Headmaster said. Marcus waited.
“I want to thank you for helping Severus and Hermione in their time of need. It was truly a selfless act, Mr. Delaluci. The act of a hero.”
Marcus didn’t know what to say to this, so he shrugged and mumbled, “It was nothing. I was there.”
“It was something, my boy. Believe me,” said Dumbledore, his eyes twinkling. Fawkes began to sing, blinking her eyes at Marcus slowly and with apparent pleasure. The song seemed to wind around the wizard’s soul. A song of sun, surf and love. Not wanting to show he was moved, Marcus nodded to the Headmaster and stepped through the floo.

Hermione had witnessed the whole pensieve, and Marcus’ taking advantage of the ill witch, but that really didn’t surprise her…what did surprise her was Marcus’ trying to discourage the witch from seeking out Severus, and the way he described their relationship, for the most part. His description of her being twisted was still the same, but he said some really poignant things about their love, and them having one soul. That was deep, especially for Marcus.
After the furor about Odessa’s death died down, and some new rules about psychological evaluations for all potential staff members…Severus and Hermione had a chance to deal with what had happened with the Potions Master and the witch. Severus placed all his memories in a pensieve for Hermione to view, and it was difficult to watch her husband give himself to another woman that way. But she heard their conversation, and knew that it was something he did not want to do, and though it hurt, she was able to understand. It was almost the opposite situation of her and Marcus at the club, when she had been drunk, and Marcus had taken advantage of the fact, ready to take her someplace and fuck her. He had touched her quite intimately, and under the influence she had agreed to have sex with the wizard. Severus never, ever held her accountable for that. So how could she hold this against him? She couldn’t.
Hermione did however, take Severus to task for not having the extra protection of the mind connection, to which he promptly admitted his wrong, and apologized for. He simply never dreamed the witch was so far gone that she would drug him and make him perform for her against his will. That was something wizards did, not witches.
“That’s what you get for being so chauvinistic,” Hermione said to him, hands on her hips, “Ordinary witches are just as prone to do something crazy to acquire what they want as wizards. They don’t have to be female deatheaters to take a man, you know.”
With Severus properly chastised, Hermione proceeded to make wild, passionate and rather dominating love to him, erasing his experience with Odessa firmly from his mind.

Hermione was in her Spells lab, finishing the paperwork for the patenting and production of the Conception Patch. It was effective ninety-nine point five percent of the time. If a witch were able to conceive a child, the patch would identify the optimum time to do it. It was a boon for couples that had been trying unsuccessfully for years. Out of fifty couples who had been having difficulty getting pregnant, to date forty-eight were waiting for their child to be born.
Severus walked in and looked at the paperwork.
“So, the patch is ready for mass marketing I see,” he said. Then he lifted her chin and looked at her, “It’s an amazing thing you’ve done here, Hermione. You are going to bring so much joy to people. I am proud of you.” His kissed her gently on the mouth, then took a deep breath.
“I’m curious though,” he said, looking at her intently.
“About what, Severus?’ she asked, rolling up the paperwork and placing it in a scroll holder.
“Why you never asked me to help you test the patch?” he said, his eyes unbelievable soft now.
“I…I didn’t know that you wanted to,” she said, looking at him, her belly filled with butterflies as if this were the first time she realized he wanted her.
“Well, I did. And I do,” he said softly.
He took her hand. “I think its time, Hermione. Time you and I made our love flesh and blood. A child is the ultimate expression of love. And I want you to have my child. Very badly. I love you deeply. You have made me all that I am, and more than I could ever be alone. You have given me dreams again. And I dream of a family with you. You are beautiful, brilliant and loving. You would be a wonderful mother. Your influence would make our child a joy. And you would have a lot of help. The house elves have been hinting at me for the past two years that they would like a little master or mistress to care for. Especially Eli. The Manor would come to life with the ring of a happy child’s laughter singing through its halls. And our child wouldn’t want for anything.”
Hermione didn’t say anything. She just looked at her husband. Severus sighed, taking her silence for hesitation.
“If you want to wait, I’ll understand. It would be a big change in our lives. There would be more than our own needs to attend to… you are the one who would have to carry…”
Hermione placed her finger to his lips, stopping him.
“I would love to have your child, Severus,’ she said softly, “I love you. But I don’t want to use the patch unless we have to. We can just let nature take its course.”
She lifted her robe, exposing her thigh. She tapped it with her finger, and a patch appeared. She removed it. She looked at Severus, whose eyes were very, very bright.
“It might take a couple of weeks for the effects of the contraceptive patch to wear off, but then…”
Severus swept her into his arms and kissed her with all the feelings of love he could muster, leaving her breathless. He looked down into her amber eyes and smiled tenderly.
“Just when I think you couldn’t possibly make me any happier, Lady Snape, you find a way,” he breathed, then kissed her again before sweeping her up in his arms.
“Let’s go,” he said, his eyes hot.
“But Severus, it’s going to take a couple of weeks for me to reach full fertility,” she argued as they swept toward the bedroom. Severus’ eyes glittered at her.
“Well, let’s just consider this…practice,” he said, pushing open the bedroom door with his foot and sidling through.
By the time Hermione was at her peak fruitfulness, they were experts.

A/N: And that my friends is the end of this story. I hope you enjoyed it. My next piece will probably be a short one covering Marcus’ return to the island and facing Cassandra…maybe some lemons. Not sure yet. But thank you all for reading and the many wonderful reviews. Until later, yall. ~ Ruth
AA/N: I don’t know if you are aware of this, but I have a four chapter short PWP about how Nymphadora Tonks and Kingsley Shacklebolt became lovers, entitled “Medicinal Seduction or How to Restore an Auror” A brutalized Tonks needs Kingsley to bring her back to normalcy. Pre-Hermione Severus makes an appearance. If you get a chance, check it out and leave some thoughts. Thanks.
