“James…JAMES!” Lily yelled from the common room. Quick like lightening, James shot up out of his bed where he had been studying and ran out to Lily, his glasses astray.
“What? What is wrong?” James asked her. She was standing in the middle of the room a piece of paper clutched in her hand. He could not tell if she was upset, or hurt, or what was happening.
“Look!” She said thrusting the paper into his hands without another word. Lily could not believe that this was real.
James unfolded the paper to read it, then lowered it smiling at her. “Congratulations!” He said pulling her into a tight hug. She had received perfect marks on her Ancient Runes, Transfiguration, and Potions final exams. “Next time though, don’t give me a heart attack!”
“Sorry, I just can’t believe I did it! They were so hard, and I just…” Lily said taking the paper back from him to look it over. “Three down, four more to go,” she said before taking a seat on the couch. She had Herbology and Muggle studies tomorrow, then Charms and Defense Against the Dark Arts Wednesday.
James always hated final exam week, everyone was so stressed, and Remus was the worst. He would always snip at the other three for goofing off which he tried to study. It did pay off though since he always received perfect marks on all his exams.
“I am studying with Remus later on tonight,” Lily said distantly as she pulled out her muggle studies notes and books. “Are you going to come?”
“Are you crazy? You both are going to be so stressed, over nothing I might add, that you will kill me for sneezing,” James said with a smirk. Truth was he did study, but many things came to him naturally, he did not always get perfect marks, but they were always top marks.
“Just because we take our grades seriously,” Lily snipped looking over at him. She could not help it, stress always made her angry. Sighing she looked at him, “I’m sorry love, I am just so stressed, I promise once all my grades are back I will be better.”
“It is fine,” James said sitting next to her, and together they began to study, and at seven Remus and the rest of the group showed up. A few sharp words were exchanged, but in the end everyone walked out alive, and they all passed their Muggle Studies exam with top marks, even Peter.

On Friday June twenty third all exams had been graded, and Lily was ecstatic. She had received perfect marks on all her tests except for Herbology and Defense against the dark arts, but she was still in the top three in both of those classes.
James had received top marks in all of his classes, and a perfect score in Potions and Defense against the Dark Arts.
“I can be an Auror!” James said excitedly as he reviewed all of his grades from his years at Hogwarts. He was worried that his fifth year grades would have ruined that, but they had not. That night he filled out the application and sent it out to the Ministry of Magic, not wanting to waste any time.
“I have no idea what I want to do,” Lily said looking over her list of job opportunities. Honestly she could do anything she wanted with the grades she received, but her mind was still fighting between Healer and Auror, so she applied for both.
All the students that were not graduating and did not have siblings graduating went home that day, since there was no other reason for them to be there. Laying on James’ bed together they talked about all their years at Hogwarts, shared embarrassing stories, private stories, and even secrets they had never told anyone else before.
“It is strange to think that on Sunday at four we are not going to be students here anymore,” Lily said quietly. It was a sad thought; this was like her second home, and her favorite place in the world. She had made all her best friends here, and also met James.
“I know, it will be alright though,” James said rubbing her shoulder lightly. “We will still see everyone, our lives are going to completely change, but not in a bad way. It is something we should look forward too.”
“Your right,” Lily said with a sigh as she looked out the window. It was going to be strange not seeing James everyday once they went home. They were both going to begin work, then figure out how from there what they would do. She needed to talk to her parents about possibly moving in with James, she knew they would be apprehensive about it, since their rule had always been she would have to be at least engaged but Lily had no idea when that would be, or if it would even happen. James’ parents were fine with it already, so it just came down to convincing her own. Then came the fact of affording a place for themselves, life outside of Hogwarts was going to be hard.
Saturday was graduation practice. Lily and James as well as the other six head of houses would be on stage with the teachers, and each as a pair would give a speech to their house. The students were arranged by houses, and the top two of each house would lead the procession to receive their certificate.
James quietly snuck off to Dumbledore’s office to finalize the plans for tomorrow, while Lily was busy talking with her friends. The only people that knew what was going to happen tomorrow were Lily’s parents, his parents and Dumbledore. It took a lot of discipline not to tell Sirius.
