“Look at me, daddy, I’m a princess!” Lilly grinned as she spun around the room showing off her beautiful pink, fluffy party dress. It had enough crinoline in it to make two bridal gowns stand out. It was pink with lace and pearls sewn into the bodice and hem. She wore a sparkled tiara on her golden head.
“You are the most beautiful princess ever, Lilly my love,” Harry said smiling.
“Dad, Siri needs a horse for his knight costume,” Lilly told him.
Harry laughed as he looked at Sirius all decked out in his armor. He was covered from head to foot in what looked like ancient chain mail and on his side hung a sword that looked like the Gryffindor sword that Harry had used on a few occasions. “Don’t tell your father that, or we will have horses running through the manor.”
“I most certainly will not allow a horse in our home, but how about this puppy?” Draco asked holding a squirming bundle in his hands.
“A puppy!” both children shouted.
“I thought you weren’t going to allow a puppy in the manor, darling?” Harry smirked.
“It was that eye batting thing, you know,” he grinned unabashedly.
“How do you think these two demon spawns ended up with the costumes?” Harry smiled trying to edge away from Draco. He could feel the pull and the need and knew if he got close enough to smell his unique scent, it would be over.
“Harry, did you just call our children demon spawn?” Draco asked with a mock scowl.
“Oh most definitely. You have spoiled them rotten.”
Draco snorted. “Like I didn’t have any help from you in that matter.”
“Our six year old is wearing a tiara, Draco, don’t tell me it is a fake costume reproduction.”
“Well of course not! Lilly wouldn’t wear something that would tarnish and turn her head green! We have tons of that crap in the family vault. That one is an old one that isn’t as valuable as some of the other pieces.”
“I don’t even want to know what your idea of not very valuable is.”
“Our children deserve only the best. Here kids, take your puppy.”
“Let me guess, a pureblood puppy?”
Draco grinned. “Of course. It’s a golden retriever. They are supposed to be the best dog for small children.”
Harry smiled. He married an over grown child, but he was happy with his choice. “So guys, what are you going to name him?”
Siri and Lilly looked at each other as the frisky puppy jumped up and down between them. He went from one child licking a smiling face and then to the other. They had a way of communicating with each other without saying words. “Is it a boy or a girl, daddy?” Lilly asked her father.
“It’s a male.”
“Then we shall call him Prince,” Siri said grinning at his sister. The puppy was rolling on his back waiting for Siri to scratch his belly.
Lilly grinned back. “Its perfect. He will keep you from being lonely while I am gone.” Prince wagged his tail in agreement and nipped at the hem of her dress trying to get her attention.
Siri’s smile faded. “I shall miss you every day until you return.” Prince barked up at Siri and he leaned down and pulled the heavy body awkwardly up to his chest.
“I know, but Prince will make you remember me,” she said helping Siri lift the puppy higher up his body.
“I could never forget my sister.” The puppy was delighted at all of the attention he was receiving and oblivious to the by-play between the siblings. He happily licked the face of the one who held him.
Harry wanted to cry. “Come on guys, let’s go and see what kind of ice cream Flunky provide to go with your cake!”
“I hope its strawberry,” Lilly said.
“I want chocolate!” Siri said. “Do you think Prince will like chocolate or strawberry, Lilly?”
Draco groaned. “That puppy can’t eat any ice cream, Siri. It will make him sick all over the floor.”
“Just a little bit?” Siri begged.
“Not even a drop,” Draco said sternly.
Harry caught the secretive looked that passed between the kids and knew that the first chance that they got Prince would be eating ice cream. He decided to leave it alone for now and worry about it when they got to that point.
With a loud pop Flunky appeared. “Masters, the Weasley’s have arrived sirs.”
“Yay!” both children yelled and took off running down the hall.
“Hey!” Draco shouted. “Malfoy’s do not run like hooligans down the halls!”
“But Potter’s do!” Lilly yelled back as she launched herself into Molly’s waiting arms.
“You have ruined my children, Harry.”
Harry laughed enjoying the spectacle. “Good,” he said and then looked into his husbands beautiful eyes. His smile immediately vanished and he started to walk towards Draco. He needed him desperately.
“I would come over to you right now, but I know what would happen if I did. I will try to stay on the opposite side of the room from you until it is time for Lilly to leave. Perhaps we should send Siri home with Hermione? He will be needing attention, but I know that you will be in no condition. I can see you are barely holding on to your control now,” Draco said softly from the other side of the room.
“Please run and hide, Draco. If I smell you I will be lost,” Harry whispered in fevered urgency.
Draco nodded his head. “I love you, Harry.”
“And I you as well.”
Draco walked out of the room giving Harry a moment to compose himself. He joined the Weasley’s in the parlor and watched as Molly hugged and kissed each child and exclaimed over their unusual attire.
“You are just the most beautiful princess I have ever seen, Princess Lilly,” she exclaimed. “And look at you, Sir Sirius the brave knight! Are you off to slay dragons? And who is this?” she asked taking the squirming puppy from his arms.
“That’s Prince!” the two children chimed as one.
“And what a handsome prince he is!”
“Daddy bought him for Siri for his birthday!” Lilly exclaimed.
Molly smiled at Draco. “What a nice present, Draco,” she said surprising him by pulling him close to her for a hug.
Draco was shocked at her boldness and affection. He wasn’t used to that kind of behavior from anyone but Harry and the children. He smiled and patted her back not sure how to respond.
“Where is Harry?” Molly demanded.
“I’m right here,” he said entering the room just then.
“Oh!” she exclaimed launching herself at the man she had always thought of as a son.
Harry grinned and squeezed her tight against his body inhaling the familiar odor of his mother. “Thank you for coming,” he said kissing her softly on the cheek.
“Like I wouldn’t come for my grandchildren’s birthday!”
“Arthur, how are you?” Harry asked with a grin.
“Great, Harry, great. Its nice to see you so happy,” he said with a smile as he looked at Draco and the children.
“Did you start the party without me?” Hermione demanded as she and Neville walked into the room.
“Aunt Mione!” Sirius exclaimed launching himself at Hermione.
“Siri! Happy Birthday, darling! And you too, Lilly! What gorgeous costumes! Did Draco pick those out for you?” she asked.
Draco grinned. “Actually, you have Harry to thank for those!”
Harry blushed when the entire room turned as one to look at him. “Like anyone of you could have told those two no!”
Just then Fred and George arrived. “We have birthday gifts for two children here, anyone know who they are?”
“Us, us!” the two shouted as one.
“Did you here something, Fred?”
“No, George, not a word. Maybe there aren’t any birthday children here?”
“Perhaps we have gotten the wrong house?”
“No! It’s our birthday!” the kids shouted running towards the twins to see what they brought.
“Oh! Look, a little Princess and a Knight! Do you suppose it’s really their birthday, Fred?”
“Maybe, how can we make them prove it?”
“Here,” he said handing each of them a jellybean. “If you eat this and turn green then you lied and it isn’t your birthday, but if you eat it and stay the same color it must be your birthday.”
Both children quickly grabbed the jellybean and tossed them in their mouth before Harry could shout to stop. Immediately the two children turned green.
Lilly burst out into tears and Siri stared in shock at his sister. “But it is our birthday!” she wailed.
“Fred and George Weasley! What have you done?” Molly demanded.
Draco looked at his two children horrified. “You turned my babies green?” he demanded.
“Isn’t it their birthdays today?” George asked in shock. He would never have given the beans to the children if he had known it wasn’t their birthday.
Harry grabbed Draco to hold him back from the twins. “They are leap year babies. The twenty-ninth is their birthday. There is not twenty-nine days this year, so technically it is not their birthday.”
“Oh gods, sorry mate! We didn’t know,” Fred said.
“I have an antidote bean at the shop. I’ll be right back with it,” George said running out of the room towards the floo.
“Daddy, I’m green!” Lilly cried.
“You still look beautiful, Lilly,” Siri told her.
“I don’t want to be green!” she wailed louder.
Harry took in a deep breath and immediately regretted it. He could smell Draco’s unique scent and immediately felt his body respond. He could feel his need strongly and he stepped back away from his spouse hoping it wasn’t to late. He walked over to the table and took a shot of firewhiskey hoping the fiery liquid would calm his racing blood.
“Harry, what’s wrong?” Hermione asked coming up next to him.
“It’s happening again, Mione.”
“What is, Harry?” she asked confused.
“The need.”
“Oh god’s Harry, not now!” she hissed.
“I know that, Hermione. I have been trying to control it all afternoon. I don’t know how much longer I can hold out.”
Hermione shook her head. “You can be strong, Harry. We’ll just make sure that you don’t get anywhere near Draco.”
“I think it’s too late,” he hissed as he watched his mate with darkened eyes.
