CH 3 STOP CRYING YOUR HEART OUT

Thanks to everyone who took the time to review
( ) means someone\'s thoughts or memories

\"Cos all of the stars are fading away,
Try not worry you\'ll see them someday,
Take what you need and be on your way
And stop crying your heart out\".

-Stop crying your heart out, Oasis

Hermione left the ministry straight away but instead of going back to her flat to pack she stopped at Regents Park and sat on a bench near London Zoo.
She had loved this place as a child and she remembered arguing with her parents when they tried to take her into the zoo, about how cruel it was to keep wild animals in cages when it was clear they didn\'t belong there. She fished a cigarette out of her pocket and lit it, exhaling the smoke slowly.

She still missed them terribly. Voldemort had, had them killed at the beginning of her seventh year, as a lesson to any muggles who tried to get in his way, and as a warning to Harry and Dumbledore, that no one was immune from his attacks. She had known then that her life would never be the same, that she would do anything in her power to bring the darkness down.

She had kept her face neutral in the briefing at the mention of her old school and second home but now she was alone the facade had started to crumble and tears began rolling down her face. She remembered the night they were murdered as clear as if it was yesterday.

She had been called to Dumbledore\'s office, she assumed on Head girl business only to be confronted by Professors Dumbledore, Mcgonagall and a badly beaten Snape.
Snape. She had wondered why he was there, even as the truth about her parents was sinking in. He explained that he was no longer completely kept in the loop by Voldemort and his army and he only found out about their plans for her parents at the last minute.
When he had tried to intercept the team sent after them they had beaten and cursed him so badly he could not follow, he was outnumbered thirteen to one.
The only reason that Snape was still a member of the inner circle was that another spy had found the team returning from the slaughter and killed them in an attempt to keep Snapes true agenda a secret. Neither she nor Snape had ever found out who that spy was.

The ironic thing was, she had developed a huge crush on Snape in the beginning of her sixth year.
He\'d had no idea of course, but she\'d loved the way he was so mean and dangerous looking and of course the fact that he was so brilliant attracted her even more. To her, the idea that he was a spy for the light, a tortured soul, all dark and brooding was irresistible, and she had jumped at the chance, when it was begrudgingly offered, to help him brew potions outside lessons thinking that she would get to spend time alone with him and gain some valuable experience as well.

Of course after her parents died all she thought about was ways to bring down Voldemort, and his death eaters, and in her grief stricken mind that included Snape. She knew it had been unreasonable to blame him but she had always assumed that the teachers at Hogwarts could do anything and would always be able to stop the bad things happening, even when other muggleborn\'s and their families started getting killed she thought that she and her parents would be safe.

She had blamed him for everything, for being a deatheater, for being a spy, and for not being able to save her parents. In her eyes he had failed her.

It was Dumbledore\'s idea to have Snape privately tutor her in advanced defence against the dark arts as she was very clearly now a target, and who knew more about the dark arts in that school than Snape. She had fought against it with all her might but in the end her curiosity and thirst for learning had taken over, and a plan had started to form. She would take the classes, learn everything she could from him,
And then she would kill him.

She remembered how hard he had pushed her, how mean and spiteful he had been and how much it had hurt her physically and mentally.
She had never hated anyone in her life until then and wasted no time in letting him know how she felt, and he had taken it all and channelled that anger back into her, teaching her to fight, magically and physically, to defend herself and to be as sneaky and cunning as he was.

(Snape was sneering at her and she felt the tears of frustration welling up in her eyes. She pushed them back and faced him, it was a week before graduation and she was working on the punch bag he had transfigured from a nearby desk in the unused classroom where they trained.

\"That, Miss Granger, was pathetic, have you learned nothing in the past year?, your punching is sloppy and your kicking unfocused, thank Merlin you are at least a competent witch\"

She glared at him, pushing her sweaty hair out of her eyes.

\"I think another hundred, and then as long as I am satisfied you may go\"

She wrapped the bandages more tightly around her knuckles and began punching the bag, first left punch then right kick, right punch left kick, and she began counting

\"1,2,3,4\"

\"Your left arm is dropping\"

\"5,6,7,8,9,10\"

\"That kick did not connect, don\'t count it\"

This had gone on for about five minutes until something inside her had snapped

\"27,28,29\"

\"Don\'t waste my time little girl, if you can\'t do it then say so\"

Crack

She had spun round to the sound of his voice and punched him square in the face.
At any other time she would have been horrified at what she had done, as it was she was too angry. He straightened himself up, black eyes glittering dangerously, before she knew what was happening, his arm shot out and punched her back, hitting her in the mouth. They had stood there sizing each other up, as they had many times before in the last year, he with a bloody nose, she with a split lip.

\"Consider your training completed Miss Granger\" Was all he said before turning and leaving the room)

That was it. One year of fighting, arguing, screaming (mostly her), sarcasm (mostly him),anger and bone numbing fatigue, all over. She was ready then.

She had often thought about him since, when she was home alone late at night, and couldn\'t sleep. She thought about his double role and the sort of life he must lead, and that he had done everything in his power to try to protect her family, at the risk of his own life even though she knew he despised her and her friends, yet she could not bring herself to think kindly of him.

She crushed the cigarette out under her boot heel and stood up. It was time to go back.
She couldn\'t save her parents but she\'d be damned if anyone was going to hurt her adopted family. They had protected and counselled her for seven years and now it was time to repay the debt.

As for Snape, well she knew it wasn\'t going to pretty whatever happened, but she was sure that if they could just refrain from killing each other, they might be able to win this terrible war.

Thanks for reading!!
