Hermione and Adrien walked down the path to Hogsmeade arm in arm, receiving odd looks from other students, as it was a strange occurance seeing a Gryffindor and a Slytherin get on so well. The two had to repeatedly dodge questions as to if they were dating one another, and Adrien had told Hermione that Severus had even asked him a time or two if they were an item. The pair always denied it, as it really wasn't the truth.
The truth of it was, Adrien had his eye on another girl. A girl with dreamy eyes and long, curly blonde hair. He had eyes for Luna Lovegood, and he had ever since her first year. Which was probably a good thing, because Hermione's school-girl crush on Severus Snape had started in her third year after he had come to her, Harry, and Ron's rescue in the Shrieking Shack, when they all thought Sirius Black was a guilty man.
She had always admired Professor Snape's prowess, and his unfailing intellect, but she just found him irresistible all around. His dark demeanor. His snarky attitude. His eyes. Oh, yes, she had often dreamed about getting lost in those eyes.
"Will you stop mind-perving over my father for just one minute?" Adrien butted into her thoughts as they reached Hogsmeade.
"Ugh, Adrien. Doesn't your Legillimency have an "off" switch when it comes to my personal thoughts?" Hermione bickered, genuinely annoyed that she couldn't have a thought to herself around the younger Snape. It was probably why they were such good friends, as he had discovered her secret crush on his father one day when they were in the Library studying. She had no idea at first, that he was just as accomplished in the skill as his father.
Adrien laughed at her again. As always.
"Nope. Oh, there's Luna. I'm gonna go talk to her. Get your arse into that thread shop over there and pick out some acceptable clothing. I'll be in there after Luna rejects me again." the young dark wizard said, not waiting for a reply before he made to catch up with the strange Ravenclaw.
Hermione couldn't help but feel sorry for Adrien's crush on Luna, because she knew the girl didn't know what to make of it. Luna was always under the impression (no matter how many times Hermione tried to tell her this wasn't the case) that the younger Snape just wanted her to sate a sexual desire. No, that wasn't the case at all. He was head over heels for Luna.
Hermione entered the shop, and apprehensively took a look around. There was clothing that she figured was definitely what Adrien was talking about, while other clothing looked like something her grandmother would wear. Images of her little pink sweater with the little white kitten on it clouded her mind again, and she quickly waved it away, as she knew that if Adrien had been there at the moment, he would have laughed at her all over again.
She looked at a rack that had different pairs of women's pants on it, but she couldn't decide. She really kicked herself as she wished Luna would reject Adrien already so he would come into the store with her. As if he had read her mind again, she caught a glimpse of Adrien's oversized black hooded sweat shirt out of the front window of the shop, and he came in moments later.
"Did she reject you again?" she asked, half jokingly.
Adrien smiled wide.
"Nope. I asked her if she would fancy having a butterbeer with me, and she said yes!"
"Brilliant. I'm glad. About time. Now help me." Hermione rushed, holding up a pair of black pants.
"Try those on." Adrien told her.
Hermione sighed and entered the dressing room, where she removed her jeans, and put on the tight black pair of pants. Surveying herself in the mirror, she instantly decided that she liked them. They were high rise, and made her legs look way longer than they actually were, and they were tight. Fitting her like a glove.
"Are you naked?" she heard Adrien on the other side of the door.
"Would it matter if I was?" Hermione shot back.
"You're not." he said as he opened the door, depositing a pair of shoes and a deep purple sweater onto the bench.
"Put those on and let me see." he said. "or I'll be forced to view you through your own eyes." he threatened.
Hermione sighed and put on the shoes and the sweater. They were a simple pair of black shoes with a slight heel, but they were velvety in texture, and they were well crafted. As for the sweater, it was a shorter style woven sweater, and the color was breath taking.
"Alright. I'm coming out." she told Adrien.
"Alright then, let's see my father's next lay." he teased.
"Ugh, you're so nasty, Adrien." Hermione said as she stepped out of the dressing room.
"Hoo hoo" he called as he looked her over, clearly impressed. "Now that's fuckin' hot. I'd almost do you myself if I wasn't so in love with Luna."
"Thanks, I guess?" Hermione said as she rolled her eyes.
"Just buy a few pairs of those pants. I'd get that black pair, a purple pair, and a red pair. Mix and match the tops." Adrien instructed her, as if he was a professional stylist.
"Since when do you know so much about fashion?" she asked him, impressed by his instruction.
"Hey, I've seen more clothes than just my plain black hooded sweat shirt and black trousers, you know." he answered in mock defense.
Hermione shot him a look as she stepped back into the dressing room. As she took off the sweater, a thought crossed her mind that she never thought to ask before.
"Adrien?" she asked
"Yes, love?"
"What... What happened to.."
"My mother?"
Hermione closed her eyes tight, hoping it wasn't a touchy subject.
"Yeah..."
"She left us when I was five. My father says that it wasn't a particularly sad goodbye either. I reckon she used to cheat on him a lot. Being that he's a hell of a father, I don't feel sad about it either. I don't need a mother. Especially if she was a slag." he mused.
The Gryffindor witch had changed back into her normal clothing by the end of his explanation, and she couldn't help but pull Adrien into a tight embrace, that he graciously accepted.
"I love you, Adrien. I'm glad you're my best friend." she told him.
"I love you too, my Hermione. Now let's go get these checked out, shall we?"
