Too Close To The Sun

Harry paced his living room as Hermione read the now ragged letter in her hands. He was nervous, unaccountably so as she scanned the note. He had been shocked when he received it, a letter from Draco and Severus.

Dear Harry,

I know that there had not always been friendship between us and only recently have we even been able to converse like adults.

However, I would like to offer you a partnership. Severus and I have spoken of this often and we would like to be with you. I know that you must be scoffing at this right now, but do think it over.

Having read the Daily Prophet article that was published about you; we feel that we have misjudged you. Even if you decide that you don’t wish to be with us, please consider our sincere offer of friendship.

Draco Malfoy

Harry knew what she was reading, could see the expressions flashing across her face. He hadn’t known what to think when he had awoken this morning to the tapping of a black as midnight hawk on his bedroom window so he had flooed her.

Hermione always had a way of wheedling out his problems, listening to them and then helping him find a plausible solution.

Harry sincerely hoped she knew what to do in this situation because he was sure that anything he did would go wrong.

“So, will you take them up on their offer? You keep saying that you’re lonely and they seem to want to know you better. You don’t have to let them pressure you into anything, just see them and hear what they have to say. It never hurts to have an open mind”, Hermione looked up at the still pacing man.

“You condone this? I would have thought that you of all people wouldn’t have agreed with this”, Harry stared incredulously.

“The war is over Harry and people have moved on. We’ve all gotten married or engaged or even finally figured out our feelings”, she said smiling wistfully,

“I think you never really thought about what life after Voldermort would be like. I know you didn’t expect to survive the final battle but Harry, things have changed. Everyone’s so grateful to be alive that they’re doing things they never would have done. Making friendships and connections that they never would have made before”, She cajoled the skeptical man.

“I- I want to see where this will go. I’ve been talking to Draco more since the war and now I can have an entire conversation without Severus snarling at me”, He collapsed in the chair opposite Hermione’s.

Looking around the drab brown room, he could see why she wanted him to get out more. It was just as depressing now as it had been when Sirius lived here- here being 12 Grimmauld Place which Harry had inherited from Sirius and had moved into after the war.

Swallowing heavily he continued, “I’ll send them an owl later with my response. I just needed to talk to someone, to figure out if I was going to do something stupid”, He laughed derisively at his slight and winced at Hermione’s pinched expression.

He knew she hated it when he sold himself short but sometimes he couldn’t help himself. She kept telling him that it was a remnant from the days of the Dursley’s telling him he was a worthless freak but he shrugged it off. Those days were over and he had moved on.

Dear Draco,

I don’t know that we can become more than friends and I don’t want to lead either of you on. I find you both very attractive but the things that I need from a relationship may not be things that you could provide.

I do want to meet with you soon if only to see you face to face and discern whether or not you feel the way I do. Since the war I’ve been stuck in the same place and I’ve wanted to move forward but haven’t known how. I don’t know if you can help me but I’d like to try being with you. Both of you.

Harry

Harry shifted nervously, smoothing a hand down his plain faded green tee shirt and jeans. He felt out of place as he took in the opulence of Spinner‘s End.

While not as overtly decadent as Malfoy Manor, it did have a sense of quiet dignity. Harry felt like he was in the library at Hogwarts once more- tiptoeing around for fear of being chastised for being noisy.

He had finally decided on a day to meet the two men who would be his lovers and now here he was waiting for them to arrive. It was evening actually and he had been invited to dinner.

‘Maybe….’ Harry cringed in his chair, wondering what was taking the house elf so long to procure the duo.

‘Maybe they realized that this was all a mistake, that they don’t want someone who would be so much work, someone as flawed as me’, Harry could feel bile rising in his throat as he thought that if that was the case they should just tell him.

He didn’t like just sitting here while they went on with their days; he wanted to know if they had decided that he wasn’t worth the trouble after all.

Harry found tears welling in his eyes as he envisioned sitting in the room for hours like a fool before finally giving up. He didn’t think he could bear it if they were only joking with him.

“Harry”, the door opened with a flourish and Draco entered swiftly with Severus on his heels. “What’s wrong?” He immediately caught sight of the tears making silvery tracks down those sculpted cheekbones and came closer crouching in front of Harry’s hunched form.

“N-nothing”, He smiled up at those pewter eyes, glimmering with concern. “Obviously something was wrong or you wouldn‘t be crying”, Severus perched on the arm of the chair and those sable black eyes seemed to burn through him.

He wanted to tell them everything, all his hopes and dreams and fears. At that moment Harry finally understood weakness.

He wanted nothing more than to tell them that he already cared too much. That he was so susceptible to their particular brand of caring but he knew that if he did they would think the battle already half over.

“It’s nothing. Really”, Harry scrubbed at his face, wishing he hadn’t been so stupid and needy, “I was just being stupid”.

“Nothing you do is stupid”, Draco frowned at the fidgeting man, taking those hands that were twisting together, ashen at the knuckles and unfolding them.

“I know”, Big viridian eyes pleaded with Draco to believe him, to condone his mistake.

“We know what you need to be happy, Harry. Draco and I want to give you the things you need. We have been together for quite some time and know where our --
Shall we call the perversions?-- lie”, Severus said with a sarcastic twist of his lips.

“We were wrong Harry. I can’t believe it took us so long and so much for us to finally admit to our mistakes. I wanted to be your friend at Hogwarts and when you didn’t take my hand, I just lost control.

I wanted to be a part of your life no matter what, even if it was a bad part”, Draco stroked Harry’s fingers and sat on the floor at his feet, unheeding of the indignity of his stance.

“I- I know what I want. I’ve already forgiven you for those things that happened so long ago.

It seems like we were at Hogwarts ages ago and holding on to a grudge for that long with all that has happened since seems childish.

I- I just want someone to control me, not to hurt me really but to stop me from inadvertently hurting myself”, Harry confessed his depravity in a whisper.

“Never be ashamed of the things you need to be happy”, He gasped as his chin was lifted in strong calloused fingers and he was brought to look once more into intense sable eyes.

“We like you Harry and we hope you like us too. Let us please you Harry? We want to please you”, Draco caught his attention again and Harry found his breath faltering as he looked into grey eyes dark with passion.

‘They really do want me, flaws and all. They don’t even see the things I need as wrong’, Harry could feel his face burning with the heat of a blush as he tried not to think about them ’pleasing’ him.

“Stay with us tonight Harry. We won’t ask you to do anything you don’t want to but we want to hold you-- insure ourselves of your safety and happiness”, Severus leaned so close those sable eyes were the center of Harry’s universe.

“Okay”, He answered breathlessly. He didn’t know if he would have sex with them so early in their relationship but he did want to be reassured after his earlier breakdown.

He knew he was needy and being kind of silly but he thought that maybe it was okay because Severus and Draco didn’t seem to mind comforting him.

He found himself squeaking as both his hands were taken and he was hauled to his feet.

“Time for dinner Harry. We wouldn’t want you to starve”, Draco smiled at him and Harry swallowed as it transformed that face he had always found kind of pointy into a stunning masterpiece.

Taking the two men’s hands, he realized that Hermione was right. The war was over and he was finally moving on.
