Child of Azkaban

Author Note: In this story there was never a prophecy, so Voldemort never new of any child that could defeat him and neither did the light side.

The child was sitting on the floor in front of a woman who was dressed in white healer robes and was holding a clipboard and writing something. The child had toys splayed out all around him. Toys of all shapes and sizes muggle and wizard. Balls, puzzles, building bricks. Toys that could fly, talk to and they’d talk back and more, but the child wasn’t touching them or even seemed to be paying attention to them. He just sat there staring down into his lap playing with the jumper he had on.

The healer looked up as the door opened and placed her clipboard and quill on the chair as she went over to greet the Potter’s.

‘‘Hello Mr and Mrs Potter and this must be Michael and Liam. I’m Healer Tanabee, but you may call me Rose. I’m in charge of Harry’s case’’

‘‘Michael, Liam, why don’t you go over there and introduce yourselves to Harry. While I talk to your parents’’ Rose suggested

‘’But we don’t...’’Michael started but was cut off by a sharp look from his father.

‘‘Go on boys’’ Mary said gently ‘‘why don’t you show Harry how to play with the toys’’ and with one last look at their parents and Healer Tanabee, they went over to where Harry was.

‘‘What exactly is wrong with him?’’ asked Mary.

‘‘Well, Harry’s case is very difficult. We’ve never had a case like this. Were still not sure what his mental state is. From what we can tell so far he’s malnourished, which has stunted his growth, which is why he appears to be no older than five. Apart from that he appears to be in good health except from how dirty he was and the lice he was in much better physical condition than expected. The problem with Harry is apart from his mother he’s never been exposed to any one else. He hasn’t spoken since he was found. However he does respond to females more than males.’’ Rose concluded

‘‘What do you mean by that?’’ enquired Mary

‘‘As you know he’s only been around his mother since birth and the first men he saw were the auror guards, when they opened the cell’’ Rose paused and looked towards the boys. Michael and Liam were playing with the toys making no effort to get Harry to join in. ‘‘I’m afraid they didn’t make the best impression.’’

‘‘What exactly did they do?’’ questioned James in confusion

James POV

What could the guards of done. They were aurors. But they must of done something if the healer brought them up, but what?

‘‘When they first opened the cell they were talking about ‘how it was about time she died’ and ‘how she should never of been born’ and other things’’ Rose said ‘‘Well when they saw Harry they were shocked. All they saw at first were green eyes, the same as Miss Evans’s eyes. They thought she was still alive and when Harry made a move one of the guards used a spell on him. It was only after that they realised it was a child, but by then the damage was done. Harry was terrified and he just kept crying. He wouldn’t let the guards or any other man near him without shrinking away and crying harder. It wasn’t until a female guard came that they could get Harry out of that cell.’’

They looked over at the boys, where Harry had now huddled into a corner.

‘‘What spell did they use?’’ asked Mary

‘‘Expelliarmus’’ replied Rose

‘‘They used that on a chid’’ Mary exclaimed in horror.

‘‘Yes unfortunately and it broke Harry’s arm’’ Rose explained ‘‘The break was so bad though that it was decided to just remove the bones and use skele-grow and this has just made Harry even more fearful. The only comfort I can offer is that he has improved partially and won’t start crying when he sees a man usually, but I would suggest you tread with caution and just support Harry and try to encourage him to talk’’

The Potter’s then turned away from Rose and went over to their boys and Harry.

Rose’s POV

I just hope they listen to my advice and not push Harry too much. I still wonder if this is the best idea. Harry should stay here till he can at least communicate, but I guess Dumbledore just has too much pull on the subject. I should of known this would happen when I saw Dumbledore here two days ago, but how could I of known he’d be interested in Harry.

Harry’s still so scared all the time. He doesn’t even like being around other people. How is he going to deal with the Potters and living at Hogwarts with all those children.

(Rose looked over at the Potters)

The Potter children don’t even seem to like him and by how their acting it will probably get worse. Then there’s James Potter. He may be the boys father, but is he really the best choice, especially with his wife Mary, how’s she going to react. I’ve seen other women attack the children of their husbands mistresses. I just hope she isn’t the same as them and can care for the him.

I really wonder if Harry’s even wanted by the Potter’s or if they were talked into it by Dumbledore and if Dumbledore did talk them into it, what for. I know Dumbledore isn’t as good as he makes others believe. If he was why would he send my husband to his death. My husband became an auror to help others and then joined the Order of the Phoenix to help win the war for the light. I should of known there was something wrong when Richard (Rose’s husband) said he was going to leave the Order and two days later he goes on a mission for Dumbledore and dies. But what could he want with Harry? Could it be because of the bad publicity that would happen if the Potter’s didn’t take Harry in or does Dumbledore want the money from Lily’s family after all the Potter’s and other families are funding Dumbledore does he really need more money.

I just hope Harry will be alright.
