”I…I’m Ss…sorry Sir. I didn’t mean to sneak in here” Maya said, her voice trembling.
Malfoy smiled at her. ”I take it you had a good time watching us?”
How was she going to answer that! Just keep quiet she told herself. What you don’t say he can’t use against you.
”I really have to go Sir.” she said and turned around reaching for the door handle. She knew it would be locked but she just had to try it anyway.
Malfoy’s hand closed around her upper arm and she was thrown into the room with much force. She hit the floor scraping her hands, and let out a silent curse for being so stupid. This man would not take no for an answer.
“You will not get away from me this time Maya. By entering my rooms, you have put yourself at my disposal.” He said smirking, slowly walking towards her and stopped a few feet away. He looked down at her with a patronising smile, quirking an eyebrow at her, as if to ask if she dared to tell him he couldn’t.
“Now get up and get undressed!” He barked at her, scaring her like hell.
“N..NO, P..pProfessor! Don’t do this, let med go. Leave me alone!!” she screamed at him hoping someone would hear her. It was her last desperate attempt to get away. But his next words made that hope fade fast.
“You can scream all you want, my dear, nobody will hear you, and nobody will help you. You got yourself into my rooms, now obey me!” The last words he hissed with force.
“NO!” Maya screamed crawling away from him. She would not, could not give in to him. There must be a way out, she thought.
“We can make a deal” he said smiling more mildly. Braking away from his anger all of a sudden.
She wasn’t fooled, but she desperately needed a way out. “What deal?” she said getting up from the cold stone floor, making sure that the distance between them was as big as possible.
His cold eyes boor into hers; “I want you, which you are not getting away from no matter what. You won’t have to do it for free. You see, I have one very famous witch in my dungeons, she’s been there for quite some time now, and frankly I’m tired of having her there. She doesn’t know that it is I who hold her prisoner; she has never laid eyes on my face. What I’m proposing is that you give me a period of, say, 14 days where you’re at my disposal at any time I want you to be, and I will free my prisoner when that period is over. But you will have to do anything I ask.” He quirked his eyebrow at her, asking what she thought about that without saying anything.
“Who is she?” Maya couldn’t help but to ask.
“I will show you.” He walked over to her and took her arm in his hand, made a flick of his wand and Maya felt that familiar sucking behind her navel. Apparition. Not an eye blink later she stood in a dark moist dungeon with Malfoy.
He flicked his wand again and a heavy wood door with rusty hinges opened in front of her, screeching in protest as if it hadn’t been opened for a long time. Through it she could see a cell and in the corner as far away from the door as possible, a huddled shape lay.
“Lumos” Lucius whispered, and his wand started to glow, casting an eerie light over the form. The walls where rough stones that glistered wet from moisture.
Maya looked at the shape again. Brown bushy hair, her heart began to race. Surly it couldn’t be!! But it was none other than the famous Hermione Granger!
Within to heartbeats Lucius had brought them back to his room. Maya felt sick for Hermione Granger although they didn’t know each other. She could well imagine what she must go through. How could she say no to that offer? She would always feel responsible for what happened to Hermione, no matter the outcome.
“Give me one day to think this through Professor Malfoy?” she asked. She would need to find out if it really was Hermione in that dungeon or if she was safe; and the whole thing was just a setup. Her mind began to roll with the many possibilities there was.
“You have until tomorrow after DADA class to think about it. But I will not let you just walk out of here without warning you that if you talk to anybody about this, Miss Granger can kiss her silly little Mudblood life goodbye” His cold eyes focusing on hers as a silent warning.
“Deal” was all she said. She then headed for the door, all the way out of the room her neck itched and she could feel his eyes boring into her back, warning her from doing anything stupid.
____
Maya heaved a great sigh of relief when she was out of his classroom, the door safely closed behind her. She couldn’t believe that she had walked out of there without anything happening to her!
But the whole situation was frustrating! She must find some kind of solution.
Slowly she started to make her way through the deserted corridors. She was so preoccupied with her thoughts that she didn’t see where she was going. She bumped into someone and landed on her bud on the floor with a thud.
“Ye alright Miss Jensen” sounded a familiar voice.
Maya looked up and smiled a Hagrid. “I’m fine Professor Hagrid, I’m sorry for bumping into you like that. I guess my mind must have wandered, I didn’t see you.”
“He he…It must be something important then. But ye know its curfew time?” He didn’t seem bothered by her being out and about after curfew. “Ye know, Miss Jensen, ye remind me of someone I miss very much” He sniffed and took a great heave of breath.
“Please Sir, call me Maya. I hate being called Miss Jensen. It sounds so formal. But who is it I remind you off Professor?” She could see he was worried and somehow she didn’t want Hagrid to be sad. She always saw him as a happy person; one that brought happy thoughts and smiles his way.
“Call me Hagrid; I don’t want any of this fancy title stuff. I feel tha same way ye do Maya” he sad smiling at her. “You remind me of Hermione Granger.” Again a big sigh escaped him.
Maya frowned, was that why Malfoy had chosen her; because she reminded people of Hermione?
“I know ye look nothing like her Maya, but your way of doing things an’ tha way you solve problems and stuff like tha.”
“Where is Hermione Granger?” She asked, maybe Hagrid could answer some of her problems. Maybe he could tell her if Hermione really was missing.
“We don’ know. She went missing 1½ years ago, nobody’s heard from her sins.”
That shocked her, had Hermione been in the hands of Malfoy for that long? Now she really had to do something!
“Hagrid?”
“Yes Maya?”
“If you could help someone out of a dangerous and painful situation, but it would cost you to sacrifice something of your own to help. Would you help?” That was the only way she could put it without breaking her promise to Malfoy.
“I would help, as fast as possible”
Maya nodded and thanked him.
“I really have to get back to my room now Hagrid.” She sad, feeling lousy for just leaving him like that.
“Oh…yes ye should not be out here. I’ll walk with ye some of tha way” And of he went in a brisk paste. Maya did all she could to keep up with him, and soon she was at the fat lady’s portrait. She quickly thanked him and went in through the hole and up to her room. She collapsed on the bed and was a sleep before she knew it.
__________
When she finally woke in the morning she found that she was still in her robes. They were all muffled and wrinkled. She was surprised that she had slept through the night, especially sins she didn’t know what the day would bring.
First things first, she told herself firmly. No matter what happened today she would not break her usual pattern, if she did, that could make that cold bastard think she was telling on him and kill poor Hermione! So she threw of her robes leaving them in the corner beside the door to the bathroom so the house elf’s would find them, and got into the shower.
After that she took on a new set of robes and grabbed her school bag. The common room was buzzing with students, most looking only half awake; through the hole she went, away from the Fat Lady, and down to the Great Hall for a sturdy breakfast.
First she just concentrated on eating her food, then as her stomach filled she started looking around her. There were not many students in the hall at this time. After all, there was one hour till classes started.
Then that chill went up her spine, and she just knew without looking that HE had just entered the hall. She turned around and his eyes caught hers. He smiled at her, and as he passed by her she heard him muttering. “You’re up early, what’s the hurry?” Then he smirked at her and went up to the high table and sat down chatting with some of the other professors that were up already.
Maya finished her breakfast and headed for the library, she was going to look up some things before her first lesson’s started.
She got out books about blood oaths and other magically binding spells. She was going to make sure that Malfoy didn’t get away with breaking his promises.
Looking at her watch she saw that she had sat reading for almost one hour! Damn! Time flies by to fast! She wrote down one blood oath she was sure would bind Malfoy to his promises and put the books back on the shelves.
She took a deep breath and walked down to her first class, Transfiguration. It was going to be a hard day today, she thought.
