Chapter 3
His Best Mistake: Chapter 3
Draco tilted his head to the side and began watching his latest airhead, Lucille, who was chattering away about something that didn’t interest him in the least. He smiled lazily as he visualised Hermione’s head on top of the woman’s body. She mistook the smile, and leaned in a little closer. Casually pushing the lock of platinum blonde hair away from Draco’s eyes, she studied his face. He was sooo handsome and her daddy was positively salivating at the thought of marrying into the Malfoy dynasty. Lucille Fudge felt like she was on top of the world.
Draco seemed to come to his senses as soon as he felt her touch on his skin, it was nothing like Grangers, a single hint of her fingers on his bare skin sent his pulse into overdrive. Even her bushy bird’s nest hair, made him feel wild. This girl, while she was beautiful in a more conventional way, she didn’t have the electric spark that Granger seemed to carry round with her. He didn’t want to compare every witch to Granger, but lately that was all he seemed to do.
He thanked Lucille for a lovely date and then took off, what had Granger done to him? Three fucking months without one single word, the little witch had gotten under his skin and he didn’t know how she had done it. One amazing night had raised the bar on every single woman he tried to date. Hell he’d tried to shag several and had succeeded once, only to have his mother verbally abuse him in front on the mortified girl. Draco was not happy.
His mother, after meeting and absolutely loving Granger, was a constant pain in his pale arse. She constantly asked had he heard from his curly haired wonder, to which he always replied no. Because Granger hadn’t even attempted to contact him and he was fucking frustrated with her lack of contact. The ignorant bint. She was so going to get, in the hardest way. He just had to find her first.

Narcissa strolled idly down Diagon Alley, her arm linked with her recently reunited sister’s. On her other arm was several bags, each full of the latest fashions. She liked to do things the normal way, sometimes she even liked to go barefoot in the garden, she was very out there according to Lucius. The next task on her list was curbing Draco’s loose ways. She loved her son more than life, but he had been dancing in circles around women for years. It was just not how Malfoy men acted.
She wondered how Hermione was getting on, she had corresponded with her several times, and the girl seemed to lead a very busy life. She had invited her to tea several times, but each time she politely declined. She had a feeling her errant son had something to do with this, and Narcissa was always up for solving a mystery.
Narcissa and Andromeda where contemplating tea at Madam Puddifoots, when out of the corner of her eye she spotted the object of her thoughts. Hermione Granger was steaming down Diagon Alley, her face and angry red and streaming with tears. Narcissa motioned for her sister to follow her, and the two began to trail behind her, totally unnoticed by Hermione. They followed her into the Leaky Cauldron where Hermione threw herself in to a booth and began to cry.
Narcissa gasped as she watched Hermione sob and immediately went to her side. Hermione spluttered indignantly before launching herself into Narcissa’s arms.
“Hermione, darling girl, what ever is the matter?” she asked.
“Oh Cissy, I’ve been so stupid!” she sobbed.
“How?” asked Narcissa.
Hermione swallowed hard and prepared to tell Narcissa her now biggest secret. She was secretly scared of how the formerly icy blonde was going to react.
“Promise me you wont breathe a word to anyone?” she asked.
“I promise.” said Narcissa.
“I’m pregnant.” she whispered.
“Oh dear god!” shouted Narcissa.
“Please.” begged Hermione.
“Is it Draco’s?” asked Narcissa.
Hermione bit her lower lip as she contemplated whether to tell the now future Grandmother of her child, that yes, infact the baby was Draco’s. Hermione had been horrified that she had totally forgotten that she was due her period weeks ago. She couldn’t believe that she was pregnant and to Malfoy of all people! And now she was sitting telling Narcissa flipping Malfoy!
“Yes, it is Draco’s.” she replied.
Narcissa’s positively beamed at Hermione, this was definitely the most unexpected twist, and Narcissa had not seen this coming. This was the best thing that could of ever happened to Draco. Finally he would have to settle down and with a woman Narcissa wholeheartedly approved of. She wasn’t sure on how Lucius was going to take it, but he had agreed that Hermione was more than a match for their son.
“Oh, Hermione, that is fabulous news!” smiled Narcissa.
Andromeda was sitting open mouthed on the other side of Hermione, her sister was actually pleased that her son had impregnated a Muggleborn? God this war had changed Narcissa, and Lucius too for the better. Her mind drifted to her older sister Bella, what she would have gave for her sister to see how much the world had changed. Her manic views were the key part of alienation of anyone who was perceived to be below her. Narcissa had changed for the better, but could Bella have changed if she had too had seen the light?
“Do you intend to tell Draco?” asked Andromeda.
“I don’t think he would be very pleased.” admitted Hermione.
“Oh shush! Draco will just have to deal with it. He has a child on the way, he needs to settle down.” said Andromeda.
“Mrs Tonks, I don’t want anything from Draco, its up to him whether he wants to get involved.” said Hermione.
“Believe me, Hermione dear, he has spent the last 3 months mooning over you. He would jump at the chance to see you again.” said Narcissa.
“He only wants to see me because he is obsessed with my arse.” she smiled.
Andromeda held up her hands.
“I don’t even want to know what my nephew has been doing.” she laughed.
Narcissa smiled.
“Oh Andromeda, it was so funny, myself and Lucius caught them going at it in our library.” she laughed.
“What did Lucius say?” asked Andromeda.
“Nothing, Hermione shot a turpentine spell at Abraxas’ portrait. He was overjoyed.” she laughed.
Andromeda shivered.
“He was a horrible man, do you remember him from the parties our mother used to have? But he had the nicest hair.” she said with a smile.
“Lucius definitely got his best parts from his father, his hair is like spun silk it’s so soft, isn’t it Hermione?” she asked.
“I wouldn’t know.” said the now puffy eyed witch.
“Oh darling! Don’t you remember?” she asked.
“Remember what?” asked Hermione.
“You told Lucius, that you had always loved his hair, and then hopped off the table and played with a strand.”
“Oh god!” Hermione shrieked, mortified.
“Oh don’t worry about it, dear. He was very happy he bewitched another with his hair.” she laughed.
“I imagine Draco’s hair is just as soft.” asked Andromeda.
“Its too short, I do wish he would grow it.” said Narcissa.
“I like it the way it is.” admitted Hermione.
“So, what are you going do then?” asked Andromeda.
“I think I need to tell Draco first, and soon, the doctor said I’m just over 3 months.” said Hermione.
“Well, how about, you come back to the manor with me? We can have tea with Lucius and you can speak to Draco in private.” suggested Narcissa.
“That would be great.” said Hermione.
Narcissa stood and moved out of the booth, kissing her sister on the cheek and promising to owl her later with all the details. Narcissa then took Hermione’s hand and proceeded to floo to Malfoy Manor.

Lucius sat reading the afternoon edition of the Daily Prophet when he heard the ringing of the floo, signalling the arrival of his wife. He closed the paper and placed it on the end table beside the sofa before rising to great Narcissa.
He was surprised to see her holding a very pale Hermione Granger’s hand as she came through the fire. Hermione’s eyes seem to dart around the room and her shoulders visibly relaxed when she realised Lucius was the only person present.
“Darling, could you have the elves make afternoon tea for us, Hermione has something to tell you.” she asked Lucius.
Lucius raised his eyebrow but didn’t press with the many questions he had, he summoned the head elf, Maggie and relayed Narcissa’s request. Lucius watched as Narcissa led Hermione through to the small dining room which was just off the main sitting room. She took a seat beside Hermione and placed her shopping bags down on the floor. At once the afternoon tea Narcissa requested, appeared on the table, and Narcissa proceeded to make Hermione a strong sweet cup of earl grey.
“If I may say so, Miss Granger, you look awfully pale.” said Lucius as he stirred his tea slowly.
“Thank you, Mr Malfoy.” she smiled.
“What, no Luci today?” he asked.
“What?” Hermione said, feeling a little confused.
“You asked if you could call me, Luci. Do you not remember?” asked an amused Lucius.
“Oh god!” Hermione whispered and placed her hands over her face in an attempt to hide her embarrassment.
“I didn’t until now, Mr Malfoy.” she admitted.
“I take great pride, in jogging your memory.” he smirked.
She smiled half heartedly.
“So, what news do you bring on this lovely autumn day?” he asked.
“I’m pregnant, Mr Malfoy.” she said.
Lucius teacup froze in mid air as he received Hermione’s shocking news. His face froze and his mouth slightly dropped, in a most unlikely Malfoy fashion.
“Pregnant?” he spluttered.
“With the next Malfoy heir, Lucius! Isn’t it great!” beamed Narcissa.
Lucius proceeded to open and close his mouth several times as he tried to process Hermione’s news.
“It is a joyous occasion when a new Malfoy is conceived, please excuse my reaction, while it was not what I expected, I am delighted.” he said.
“One down, one to go.” breathed Hermione.
“I am assuming, that you intend to tell Draco, Today?” he asked.
She nodded.
“Well, I will send for Maggie to get him, while he may…over react, know that the child has two supporters onside already.” he smiled.
“Thank you, Mr Malfoy.” she said.

Hermione sat fidgeting nervously as she waited for Draco, who had yet to emerge from his bedroom. Lucius and Narcissa sat waiting in the next room, anxiously awaiting Draco’s reaction to his impending fatherhood.
The sitting room door clicked open and Draco stepped in, visibly surprised by who was waiting for him.
“Granger?” he asked as he sat down opposite her.
“Hello, Malfoy.” she smiled, her eyes slowly filling with tears.
He reached over and took her hand and began to rub her thumb absentmindedly.
“What’s the matter?” he asked.
Hermione bowed her head and took a deep breath.
“I’m pregnant, Draco.”

“I’m sorry, Malfoy, I forgot I shag everything that walks. Oh wait, that’s you!”
Draco stood and proceeded to pace in front of her.
“Shit, I’m going to be a father!” he cried.
