Chapter 3

Blinding Discoveries

Harry was surprised about how clear everything was, Severus was wearing a midnight black robe that was covering him from head to toe like always, and it matched the color of his hair exactly. Severus also looked a little white and pasty, more so than usual. He slowly turned his head and smiled softly at Ron who was standing at least a foot away from Severus. Ron really had grown was seemed like a foot, and Harry was expecting it, none of the Weasley’s were short. Ron’s hair had grown out a little and Harry wondered if it was because he wanted it to, or just because he didn’t want to get a hair cut. Hermione was standing right next to Ron and Harry was surprised to notice that her hair was curly again, but in a controlled way.

He finally let his eyes fall on Draco Malfoy, who was sitting right next to his bed. Draco was beautiful, as much as Harry would hate to admit it. His hair was chin length, and falling freely around his face, it was shining in the light that was coming from the closest window and Harry had the sudden urge to run his fingers through it to see if it felt how it looked, which was like silk. His gray eyes were filled with concern and a bit of annoyance now that he was being studied. His face was it’s usual pale shade and Harry wanted to run his hand softly down his cheek.

Finally Harry snapped out of his daze and blinked a couple of times before looking back at Sev. He then smiled, a smile that probably went from one side of his face to the other. “I can see again.” He said and started to laugh when Severus rolled his eyes. “It’s so good to have you back mate!” Ron said and walked over to his bed. Harry glared at him, “I was never gone Ron…” “Don’t lie to yourself Harry, you were distancing yourself from us, from everyone, just because you thought that we would all pity you for your blindness. Well for your information Harry Potter one of my cousin’s is blind and I don’t pity her at all!” Harry smiled at Hermione’s rant and nodded, she was right, he was trying to distance himself from everyone.

Madam Pomfrey cleared her throat and then looked at them all expectantly, “I do believe it’s time for classes, so I would appreciate it if you left Harry alone so he could rest more, you can come back after dinner.” Harry looked at her strangely, “Why do I have to stay here?” “Mr. Potter! You have just been through a very tiring ordeal, as awake as you feel right now, that is only because of the adrenaline that you being able to see has caused, you give it 30 minutes to wear off and you will be sleeping until tomorrow morning! I am not going to have you brought back here passed out because you tired to rejoin everyone today!” Harry rolled his eyes at her and slumped back on the bed pouting.

Draco laughed and Harry glared at him, “I’m sorry Potter, but that was the most horrible pout ever, you would never get what you wanted with that face.” Harry blushed and turned his head to ignore the still laughing Draco. Madam Pomfrey finally shooed them all away and Harry was left alone to contemplate just what the hell had happened since the ‘accident’.

Harry rolled over on his side and looked around, he had never had perfect vision, so it was weird for him to be able to read the sign on the other side of the room perfectly. He rolled on his back again and tried to get comfortable, to no avail, he stared up at the ceiling, letting his mind wander for a while, after about 5 minutes Harry started to realize that he could see something in the air, he focused harder on it and was surprised when he saw the metallic substance floating in the air, moving like some sort of wind. He looked around and he realized that it was everywhere, he held up his arm and realized that he could see silver lines running up his arm.

His heart started to beat harder and he didn’t know what it was, “Madam Pomfrey?” Harry yelled and his eyes widened when she walked in and he could see the lines on her to, but they weren’t as strong or as deep as they were in his skin. “What is it Mr. Potter?” Harry opened his mouth to talk, but then closed it again, not knowing how to explain it. “I’m um…seeing things I guess….” Harry said softly and Madam Pomfrey instantly looked more alert, “What kind of things?” She asked and Harry took a deep breath. “I…I guess I can see metallic things in the air, but they look more like a gas, not a solid, yea…. like a metallic gas! At first I thought that maybe I was seeing the air, but then I looked down at my arm and I could see very dark and deep looking silver lines running up it, and I probably have them all over my body, and I can see them on you to, but they aren’t as deep or strong looking.”

Harry blushed when she didn’t say anything but just kept staring at him. “Just try to rest ok Harry? I will go and talk to the headmaster about this.” Harry nodded and she walked back out. Harry closed his eyes and desperately wished for sleep, he didn’t want to open his eyes and see the gas like substance, he didn’t want to know what went wrong with his vision. He slowly felt sleep tugging at him and he sighed contentedly when he felt his subconscious fall into the darkness of sleep.

Harry woke up to voices and kept his eyes close so he could listen. “Yes Minerva I am quite sure of what he is seeing. It’s not surprising considering how is eyes were fixed.” “Albus! The last person to actually *see* magic was one of the strongest wizards ever!” “Yes, I must agree, and our Harry seems to be right up there with him.” Harry mentally rolled his eyes; he could all but see the twinkle in Dumbledore’s eyes.

Harry opened his eyes and faked a yawn, trying it to make like he has just awaken. “How are you feeling Harry?” Harry smiled at Dumbledore, “Just fine sir, why is Professor McGonagall here?” “You claimed to see metallic things in the air and silver lines on your and Madam Pomfrey’s skin correct? Can you see them on mine or Albus’?” Harry looked at McGonagall and traced a faint silver line that started from the tip of her middle finger and ran all the way into her robes. He looked over at Dumbledore and wasn’t surprised to find the lines darker and deeper and they looked like they were everywhere. Harry nodded slowly, “Yes ma’am, I can see them, but the headmaster’s looks darker and deeper.” Dumbledore chuckled and nodded, “As they should Harry, you have the amazing gift to see magic instead of just feeling it.” Harry looked at him with confusion, “I don’t understand sir? How can I see it?” Dumbledore smiled at him and he instantly felt like he should’ve already known. “You can see it because of the way your eyes sight was fixed. When your magic fixed your eye sight, it completely corrected it and also made you able to see magic, and probably a great deal more things, for all we know you can see through invisibility cloaks now.” Harry nodded slowly and tried to ignore the metallic swirls and lines.

“This is…awfully distracting sir…will I always be able to see it?” Dumbledore nodded and Harry sighed, yet another thing to add to his…. weirdness. “What time is it sir?” Harry asked quietly and looked at the blanket that was over him. “It is just after dinner Harry, Ron and Hermione came and we sent them back to their rooms, as well as Mr. Malfoy.” Harry nodded again and stood up, much to Madam Pomfrey’s dislike. “I am feeling much better sir, I am going to go back to Gryffindor tower.” Harry didn’t wait for an answer, he walked past them all and out the door and tried to ignore how the metallic swirls got a little stronger when he walked into the castle.

He made his way up to Gryffindor Tower, mainly looking at the ground, in awe of how there were metallic trails leading everywhere. When he finally got into Gryffindor Tower he sighed when he saw that everyone was in the common room. Everyone stopped talking the minute he walked in and he glared at all of them. “Harry! I didn’t know that you were getting out tonight!” Hermione called and ran over to him. Harry smiled at her, “I didn’t give them much of a choice ‘mione, but if you guys would excuse me, I am … tired so I am going to go and lay down in my own bed.” He tried to ignore the metallic swirls everywhere and when he finally got in his own bed he pulled the covers over his head so he wouldn’t have to see the ‘magic’ everywhere.
