Breaking the News
James did not think he heard them right.
“What?” He asked not really taking it in. Lightening flashed again followed by a loud thunderous boom.
Sirius pushed his friend inside the house, one so he would not make a scene outside, and two it was dour pouring. Remus and Skye followed in behind, Remus shutting the door behind him.
“We were in a battle. Lily was left behind,” Sirius said and waited for James’ retaliation.
James glared at Sirius, then quickly punched him square in the chest. “HOW COULD YOU LEAVE HER!” James bellowed at Sirius.
“I saved Skye’s life, risking my own neck for her, and for your sake, and you left my wife behind!” James could barely see straight as he glared at Sirius
Sirius just took the abuse from James. He knew he was going to react like that, and that he would have reacted the same had roles been reversed.
“It wasn’t just Lily,” Sirius said staring at James. “The Prewetts were killed. Fabian had gone to save Lily, and Gideon was killed just after.”
“At least someone tried to save her!” James said seething. James was upset about the Prewetts, they were great friends, but at the moment he was more concerned about his wife.
After a moment of heaving breathing after yelling at his best mate, James slumped down on the couch.
“Do we know where they took her?” James asked refusing to believe that Lily had been killed.
“No,” Remus said quietly, standing in for Sirius who seemed defeated by the yelling he had just received from James.
“The best thing would be for us to go back to where we last saw her. We may be able to track her from there,” Remus said calmly looking at James, then to Sirius who was looking out the window.
“What are we waiting for?” James said shooting up off the couch. He jogged up the steps to his and Lily’s room to grab his invisibility cloak. James stopped to look at the room. Lily had left him some clean clothes out, and a small note like she normally did. It read:
James,
I figured you would be too tired to look for clothes, and I did
not want you to sleep in the clothes you have been in for the
past two day. Sleep well, I will be home soon, I love you.
Love,
Lily
James pocketed the note, “you will be home soon”. James said to himself
He went back down the stairs, to see Remus had gathered up some potions Lily kept handy for emergencies. Skye had found some letters in the office and was scribbling down some places that Lily could be.
“Ready?” Sirius asked his friend. James nodded to Sirius, and they all apparated back to where the fight was.
James stared at the wreckage, the place was completely trashed.
