A Library Encounter

Hermione was sitting at her normal table. She had pulled out her work for her Arithmancy class, and also had started her Potions essay when her mind started drifting. She was thinking about how much of an idiot Ron was.

She thought, “Well if Ron can’t appreciate the fact that I’m a woman I will find someone who can.”

George was sitting at another table across the room but could still see Hermione from where he was. He was trying to think of a viable excuse to go and talk to her, when all of the sudden she scooped up her things and started making her way toward the exit. Hermione noticed that George was sitting at a table in the library and made her way over to him.

Hermione said, “George, I’m surprised to see you here. Do you come here often?”

George replied, “Just because one male in my family is an idiot, doesn’t mean we all are. I sometimes like a nice play to come and study.”

Hermione retorted, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to come across like you weren’t smart or capable of studying, I just meant…”

George cut her off, “Its okay Hermione, I was just teasing. I like to see you get worked up. It gives your cheeks this nice flush.”

Hermione started blushing more. She was trying to figure out if George was flirting with her. She decided that she must be imagining it and nervously laughed.

George was taking this all in. He saw her trying to process his comments. He knew she was internally analyzing everything thing he said. He saw the blush creep into her cheeks and he smiled at her. This was going better than he thought.

Hermione looked at him smiling at her. She said, “Well I was going to go for a walk before curfew, so I guess I’ll see you in the common room.”

George replied, “I could use some air too, would you mind if I joined you?”

Hermione looked slightly annoyed, “You shouldn’t feel obligated to go with me. I can handle myself on a walk. If Malfoy or anyone is about, I can give him a hex to remember.”
George answered, “I don’t feel obligated to go with you. Can’t someone come with you just to enjoy the pleasure of your company?”

Hermione was slightly taken aback by this. She was not expecting such a response. She had figured George was just being brotherly, but smiled in spite of herself and said, “I would love your company. I just need to drop my books off upstairs.”

George replied, “Yeah me too. Let’s go.”

With that George grabbed his books and they both walked up to the Gryffindor common room to drop off their books and then made their way back out of the portrait hole.
