Into The Dark
Chapter 3 – Into the dark
Severus Snape and Hermione Granger had been walking about the Forbidden forest for close to 5 hours now. They were apparently ‘looking’ for some rare herb that Severus had hidden in a cave around here. The only problem was, he had a spell on the cave, which made it impossible to locate, even by the owner. The only way to find it is if you happened to stumble upon it why you were walking through the woods.
Hermione huffed in frustration, and sat down on a nearby fallen tree. Her feet ached, and she was getting cranky. It seemed that Snape, who apparently did not tire, was not in the mood for accommodating for people who did get tired.
He whirled around, a look of plain irritation on his face. “What the hell do you think you are doing, we need to keep moving”. The venom in his voice apparent, that would have made any other person cringe in fear. But Hermione knew to stand her ground with him. For the most part, he was all bark and no bite.
“I, unlike the unearthly talent you seem to possess, am human. I require a bit of rest. And if I do not, I fear you will have to carry me, because I will collapse from exhaustion”.
“Very well” he said, although still scowling.
Hermione made them rest for the good part of forty five minutes. When they were finally able to start on their journey again, it was almost dark.
“I believe that we should rest here” Snapes cool velvet voice said startling Hermione out of her thoughts.
“But isn’t the Forbidden Forrest dangerous at night, I mean even more so than during the day”?
“Yes it is, but I have developed a set of wards that is strong enough to keep the foul beasts that haunt the land of the forest out”.
“Oh”, was all she could think of saying.
“You know, you could be a little more grateful that I am willing to share this warding spell with you. I could just make you sleep outside of it”. His voice now laced thick with disdain.
“Grateful” she spat, her rage at what he said quite evident. “I will bloody start being grateful to you, when you learn that us humans can not just be tossed around like rag dolls. I guess all those years of serving Voldemort have really rubbed off on you. You are, and always will be a heartless bastard”
“You think I am heartless? Fine then, I will show you just how heartless I am” He walked over to a fallen tree, transfigured it to be a small lean to hut. Placed protective wards around himself, and laid down to go to sleep. Thus leaving her out in the dark, alone, to fend for herself.
Hermione, although scared at being alone, was fuming too much to sleep, so she decided to make a campfire and sit by it instead.
Hours later, Snape woke up and found Hermione sitting by a blazing fire, sound asleep, and without any wards around her.
Not wanting to be the reason she died, he placed the protective wards around her also, and fell back asleep.
