I hope this story grows in popularity. I've noticed that stories in the general category don't usually go over too well at first. I hope you guys will think this story is different, and flock to it to read!
Well anyway! Thanks dawnangel, for being my only (yet faithful) reviewer as of yet!

Draca woke sometime in the night, a gentle heat burning at her throat. She touched her locket. That meant the Unseen were being called together. She cast a silencing spell around her bed and opened the locket.
“Forbidden Forest.” James’ voice whispered gently. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, and carefully climbed from her bed. She threw on some clothes, cast a muffling spell on the bottom of her shoes, and snuck out of the castle. Filch almost caught her once, but a strategic squat behind a suit of armor saved her a deal of trouble.
Once she had taken a secret passage out onto the grounds, she quickly transformed into her unicorn form. She used the speed of the magnificent equine to reach the forest in no time. A large black dragon, a small red fox, and a glorious black panther met her at the boundaries of the forest. They trotted through the trees, and then transformed back into their human forms…well…all except James…he was sort of halfway…
“My friends…everyone well? Anyone spotted?” James asked, glancing at his friends as they walked through the forest.
“I had a close call with Filch, but I managed to evade him successfully.” Draca said. Tobias and Scott both had all-clears.
They came into a large clearing, the light of the moon being the only source of light until James manually lit a few torches with his breath. The torches surrounded a small fire pit that the Unseen used for effect. James waved his fingers over the black pit, and a crackling magical fire sprang up. James preferred magical fire because it left no smoke. They sat on the ground around the fire, thinking quietly.
“How about a prank on the first years?” Tobias suggested. The corners of James’ mouth curled upward.
“Brilliant. We can give them those Exploding Quills that my uncles make. That’ll give them quite the nasty shock when they go to write down some notes!” he said, and the group laughed softly.
They talked amiably amongst themselves, telling stories of how their summers went. James stopped abruptly during his story about the duel with Kingsley Shacklebolt. His ears twitched slightly, straining to hear something. He suddenly threw himself forward, and an arrow shuddered into a tree a few feet behind him.
He scrambled to his feet when he heard hoofs pounding the ground. “Centaurs!” he cried. The group rose to its feet, and with a few hurried incantations, the magical fire and the torches were extinguished. And then they ran. They ran as if their lives depended on it. Which they did, of course. In their fervor to get away, they were losing their sense of direction, and running deeper into the forest. Scott screeched in terror when an arrow thudded into a tree next to his head.
“Transform! Change and run!” James cried, and changed into his familiar black dragon. He heard the pounding of hoofs right behind him as Draca changed into the unicorn. A small blur of red at his clawed paws told him Scott was changed, and the blur of black to his other side told him Tobias was right on his tail.
He heard a loud whinny, and made a hairpin turn to see Draca’s unicorn form circled by centaurs. She was pawing at the ground, and swinging the large silver horn, but the centaurs weren’t backing down. One of them notched an arrow.
“You impersonate a unicorn! It is as great a crime as slaying one!” he hissed. As the arrow flew from the bow, there was a blur of black, and a roar of agony. Tobias’ great black panther form struck the ground, having jumped between the arrow and Draca. The arrow quivered in his leg, and he roared in agony. James charged the group, his great fangs bared. Arrows flew at him, but merely skidded off of his armor-like scales. He tackled the centaur that had shot at Draca, and the others broke the circle. James bayed in agony as two arrows struck into the soft flesh of his back, right between his wings where someone might ride. He went up on his back paws, and came down slashing. His claws caught two centaurs in the face, and they began to back away from the pain-frenzied dragon.
Draca, still in her unicorn form, tried to make a terrified escape. Her hooves became tangled in a vine-laden bush, and the unicorn went down.
Her locket, charmed to grow as she transformed, caught in the brush, and was broken as she struggled to right herself. She whinnied, and jumped from the bush. She spotted James standing with the wounded Tobias between his front paws, his fangs bared, and saliva dripping from his draconic chin as he protected his friend.
Scott was nowhere in sight, and Draca cursed inwardly. She trotted up beside James, and bayed at the centaurs angrily, swinging her horn up and down. James snapped at them. Pain was started to cloud his mind, and he could see blackness blooming at the edge of his vision. His head started to droop slightly, and Draca’s large head swung towards him. She had no chance to fend off the centaurs without him. Mindful of her horn, she began to nudge James’ armoured neck with her nose. James’ growls were fading, and his legs looked like they were going to buckle. One of Tobias’ paws rested atop of James’ to calm him.
‘We need time to come up with a plan. There’s no time…there’s no time…’ he thought desperately. ‘We need time…’ he drew up a magical bubble around them, and felt a strange pulling sensation where his bellybutton would be. It felt almost like traveling by portkey. He thought it odd…but as he started to question the sensation, darkness overcame him, and he felt his legs give way.
~~
James was jolted from what would have been unconsciousness by a curiously hard landing. He stood fully on his legs (apparently he had changed back at some point) and immediately regretted it. A wave of nausea and agony hit him, and he went back to his knees. He heard groans beside him, and looked over to see Draca rubbing her head, and Tobias nursing the arrow sticking from his thigh. Both had changed back from their Animagi form. He didn’t see Scott, however, and a strange feeling of dread washed over him, mingling with the pain and nausea.
Tobias groaned softly, but he froze with what looked like terror when he lifted his head. At first James thought he was looking at him, but then he realized with dismay that he was looking past him. James turned slowly, careful of the pain in his back (why was his back hurting again?).
His face paled considerably when he saw what Tobias was looking at. About a dozen black-robed figures were standing in a straight line, looking straight at them. James knew immediately that they were Death Eaters by the white masks that covered their faces.
“Shit.” He breathed. Draca groaned beside him, and pulled herself up onto her knees. One of the Death Eaters stepped forward, his wand drawn.
“How nice of you to…drop in. We needed some guests of honor for tonight.” He said cryptically. James felt a growl rising in his throat at the thinly veiled threat. He stood to his feet again, growling dangerously.
“Get up…” he breathed to his friends, quiet enough so that the Death Eaters couldn’t hear him.
“Um…kinda can’t…” Tobias said, still holding the arrow. Draca went to Tobias, and started to help him up.
“Oh…don’t get up…you won’t need to…” Drawled the Death Eater, pointing his wand to Draca and Tobias. James moved in the line of his shot, his fangs bared. “Now what exactly are you?” he asked. “Don’t answer…it doesn’t matter. I’ll just kill you. Avada Kedavra!” he hissed, and the green spell was thrown from the tip of his wand. James stood his ground. The curse hit him in the chest, and he stood for a moment. Then, much to the dismay of the Death Eater, he took a deep breath, and exhaled. The breath was clouded as if on a cold day, the mist a poison green color. The grass beneath him died on contact with the falling green mist.
By this time, Draca had gotten Tobias to his feet, but was having trouble keeping him steady. James held his hand out to the side. “Get over here and take my hand. I’m going to do a Side-Along.” He said, his gold eyes never leaving the Death Eater. But as James held out his hand, the Death Eater saw something he didn’t like. Something shiny attached to James’ robes.
“Auror!” he hissed. James felt Draca grab his hand.
Knowing very well that he couldn’t Apparate to Hogwarts, James had to think quickly about where he could go. Seeing as it was school term, he didn’t want to Apparate to his house, because his father would get very suspicious….and angry. He wracked his brains painfully quick to come up with a place. Then it hit him: Grimmauld Place! His father almost never went there, especially during school term.
So he thought about the living room of the old dusty house, and immediately felt the tug of Apparition. He landed a little further in the air then he imagined, and came crashing down on what he presumed was a table. Two other crashes alerted him that Draca and Tobias had gotten there too. He stood shakily, and began to rub dust and splinters off of his robes.
He heard the scraping of chairs, and the pounding of feet, and watched with horror on his face as the room filled with lots of people. Most of whom he recognized. There were the Weasleys, his father (who looked inexplicably young…) his mother (hmm…her too…), Severus Snape, some other guy with black hair, Nymphadora Tonks (she had helped train him, of course he would know her!), uncle Remus, and he knew something was very wrong when Albus Dumbledore was standing at the back of the group. He felt a wave of confusion as each and every one of them trained their wands on him and his two friends.
Draca whimpered softly. “Bloody hell, Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore…”

Ooh. Interesting....
Do tell me what you think! I'm always open for suggestions, ideas, and criticism. What I don't like, however, is flames. They burn terribly, and aloe vera gel only does so much...so please, my friends...be kind...
