The Divorce and The Law
“You stupid bitch,” Ron shouted. “You will not be leaving me for that werewolf. Not now, and not ever. Your place is here with me, watching the house and all that shit that comes with it. I will not divorce you!”
“Ronald, there isn’t much you can do. I filed for it, and I researched enough to know that I don’t need you to sign the petition to be granted a divorce.” Hermione calmly told him.
“What you mean?” Ron said. “This is the Wizarding World. There is no such thing as divorce here.”
“I can prove it to you, in court. Tomorrow 8:00AM sharp. Be there to be amazed. Good-bye Ronald.” Hermione snapped back at him.
A soft pop was heard as Hermione disappeared from view. Ron stomped up the stairs to his childhood bedroom.
“This is totally unfair,” Ron shouted.
“What’s wrong, Ron?” a voice from downstairs called.
Ron walked back downstairs to find his mother home.
“It’s Hermione. She wants a divorce. Apparently she found something that will grant her that divorce.” Ron explained.
“Oh my,” Mrs. Weasley exclaimed. “There are only two things that could grant her a divorce. Either she is pregnant with another man’s child or you were physically abusing her. “
“I never laid my hands on her, Mum.” Ron told her.
“I know. We’ll see what all this nonsense is about soon I take it?” Mrs. Weasley asked.
Ron nodded and turned to go back to his room. Slowly, Ron got ready for bed, dreading what the outcome of tomorrow would be.
The Ministry Courts – Marriage Department
“Weasley vs. Weasley Case # 100232,” a voice rang out, “will the parties of these cases please step toward.”
After the Minister appeared and the parties were swore in. Hermione began her tale.
“Before presenting, my petition for divorce to one Ronald Weasley, I researched Wizarding marriages. I know that there are only two ways of getting a divorce. Either I have been abused by the hands of my husband or I am pregnant with another man’s child. Minister, I plead to both.” Hermione spoke in a strong voice.
People in the courtroom murmured among themselves.
“Silence!” The Minister shouted. “Continue.”
Hermione nodded her head.
“The first year of my marriage was wonderful. Ron was sweet and caring, everything I could ever ask for. But then one night he changed. I don’t know what happened, but one night he came home drunk. I tried to fire call Harry, but Ron had pushed me away from the fire. He went on about how I was seeing a younger man and that I must have thought that he wasn’t good enough for me. And then he raped me. Right there on the floor. Next morning, he didn’t remember a thing. I thought that it would have been a onetime thing. That he would never get that drunk again. A few months later, he came home drunk again. This time I was asleep in our room. He came banging in and started going on about me cheating on him. Again, he raped me. Still I didn’t leave him. A few months later, Ron, Harry and I went clubbing, at 3:00am, we left the club. They used the floo while I walked home; I told them I need fresh air. I heard something behind me, I pulled my wand out but before I could get a shot in it was knocked out of my hand and into the alley, where a few seconds later I was side-alonged. I struggled with whoever it was, but stopped when I realized who it was. Remus Lupin was that man, but that night, his wolf instincts took over. I am Remus Lupin’s mate. The next day, I went over to see him. To see how he was faring. And he was a mess, he keep apologizing and everything. I forgave him, and made him realize that I needed him. I needed what he gave me. Before the times that Ron raped me, he was gentle, and caring in the bed. I need rough and kinky, every time I tried to introduce him to something that I would like he would get angry at me. Telling me that I didn’t think he was good enough or something like that. My affair with Remus continued since that night. I know that I am supposed to be the brightest witch of my age, but I forgot to protect myself against pregnancy. So now I am pregnant with Remus’ child.” Hermione told everyone.
“What makes you so sure that it’s not Ron’s child?” The Minister asked.
“I was using the conceptive spell. It doesn’t interfere with a werewolf’s sperm.” Hermione explained.
Ron gasped. “You stupid bitch.” He said standing up.
A growl was heard throughout the courtroom.
“I wouldn’t try anything if I were you, Mr. Weasley.” Remus said. “That’s my mate and child. You harm them, I harm you.”
“Is the child in danger of getting the disease Mr. Lupin?” One of the Ministry workers asked.
“Nope, the child will never become one unless you have sex with a werewolf on the full moon. You don’t have worry.” He said winking.
“Is that all, Mrs. Weasley?” The Minister asked.
“Yes, Minister. It is.” Hermione said.
“Alright, we have heard the fact. All in favour of granting the divorce say aye.” The Minister called out.
“Aye,” All the Ministry workers that were in favour said.
“All in favour for keeping the marriage say nay.” The Minister said.
“Nay,” One lone worker said.
“Well, unfortunately. Mr. P. Weasley. You are out-voted and also bias to this trial. Go to my office right after this. We will talk about this.” The Minister said. “Mrs. Weasley or shall I say Ms. Granger? I grant you this divorce. I ask of you to really consider well your next marriage.” The Minister pointedly stared at Remus.
“Minister,” Remus spoke out, “you know that I cannot marry her. It is against the law for werewolves to get married, hold jobs or even to buy a house.”
“Hmm,” the Minister pondered. “If I were to clear those laws, how would I know that the werewolves won’t do anything stupid?”
“You would know because all the werewolves are registered and all of them are good people. Fenrir Greyback is gone. You just have humble people left as werewolves.” Remus told him.
“Here is what I will do. I’ll dismiss these laws for a trial of 3 months. If something goes wrong, the laws are back in order.” The Minister said banging his gavel.
