Caught in the Act

Chapter Three: Caught in the Act
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Ginny avoided Hagrid for nearly a week. She skipped her first Care of Magical Creatures class on Tuesday by feigning illness and hiding in the infirmary. When it came time for her second class, however, Ginny knew that she would not be able to get away with the same excuse. Madam Pomfrey had been rather dubious as to whether there was anything wrong with the redhead the first time around, and it was only due to Ginny’s excellent acting skills that she was able to get away with it. She did not think a repeat performance would go down well.

The knowledge left her feeling rather disgruntled. She was not entirely sure that she was not ill. After all, ever since first looking through the magazine, she had not been able to stop her imagination from running wild, and more often than not that had ended up in her becoming absurdly aroused. Even in class she would sit there fidgeting – trying desperately to push aside increasingly vivid fantasies that were far more interesting than anything her teachers could come up with. She would sit there, pressing her thighs together in order to try and alleviate some of the tension until the bell rang and she could find a quiet corner to indulge herself.

The very worst bit, however, was the knowledge that while the majority of her time was spent speculating on what it would be like to be a puppy and to have a master – a master that was invariably big and hairy and commanded her with a thick accent – her mind had also toyed the idea of what it would be like to be mated. She knew from the magazine that it was something that could be included in the playacting. Two masters might well decide to ‘mate’ their pets. The thought of being so thoroughly shagged was enough to soak her knickers.

It wasn’t right. It really wasn’t. She shouldn’t be fantasising about such things and yet there was no denying that she was. It was almost as if a secret part of her had been revealed to her – a part which she had never realised existed before. What was more, after reading through the magazine what felt like a hundred times since that first night she knew that it was not something that she was easily going to be able to forget.

She could hardly believe that the magazine belonged to Hagrid – not big friendly Hagrid. She had half managed to convince herself that he had actually confiscated it from a student. Possibly he had found it on some disgusting Slytherin who had been perving over it in a hallway or even in class. It was just the sort of thing that she knew some of them would enjoy doing.

But if that was the case then why on earth would he still have it? Surely he would have thrown it out or possibly even burnt it. He would not have hung onto it.

Ginny pursed her lips and then growled as she stumbled over a stray root. Nearby, two Hufflepuff girls in her class looked in her direction and giggled before hurrying down the path ahead of her. That had been happening a lot as well recently. Ginny had discovered that dating Harry had hardly made her the most popular girl in school and subsequently getting dumped by him had only made things worse.

She sighed and looked in Luna’s direction. The blonde girl was watching her expectedly, and once she saw that she had Ginny’s attention, she said, “Do you think we’ll be covering Blibbering Humdingers today? I hope so. We haven’t covered half the creatures that I thought we would. Daddy says that the syllabus is seriously lacking.”

“Hagrid’s syllabus is perfectly good!” Ginny objected, feeling a sudden, really rather irrational, hatred towards the Ravenclaw. If Luna had been there for her instead of going off with Dean then she would never have wandered down to Hagrid’s hut and thus would never have accidentally found the damn magazine.

“Oh yes, it is,” Luna replied with a small smile and a nod.

The class was long and Ginny could barely concentrate. She found that she could not look in Hagrid’s direction without blushing. Every time that she did so, she could almost feel her shoulders straining as the magazine in her satchel seemed to add extra weight to the bag. She’d had to bring it with her. The thought of leaving it behind in her room where one of her roommates might stumble across it was too terrifying to contemplate.

Besides, she had come to a decision as to what to do with it. Lunch would be directly after class and she had decided to skip the meal and slip the magazine back under Fang’s bed while Hagrid was in the Great Hall. Hopefully she would be able to do it and still find the time to grab a bite to eat.

Confident in her plan, Ginny turned her attention to attempting to concentrate on what Hagrid was saying. When the class broke up and the students began hurrying up to the castle in search of food, Ginny made her excuses and circled back in the direction of Hagrid’s hut. Stealthily, she crept up on the building from behind and made her way around the outer wall until she came to a window. Going up on her tiptoes, she peered through the glass and into the hut. Just as she had planned, Hagrid was nowhere in sight.

The door was open; Hagrid never bothered to lock it. Slipping inside, Ginny immediately closed the door again and hesitated. She listened, hearing nothing to alarm her but the steady click of Fang’s claws as he appeared in the bedroom door. For a second Ginny and the dog did nothing but stare at each other. Then Fang began to wag his tail and the redhead smiled.

“Hey there, boy,” she said gently while stepping away from the door. “Be quiet, okay?”

Fang made no indication that he had even heard her, let alone that he had understood what she had said.

Ginny hurried over to his bed and dropped to her knees next to the basket. Fang was by her side in a heartbeat, excitedly sniffing at her hair and skin. The young witch gently pushed him away but he was soon back, burying his wet nose in her hair. It tickled and Ginny was forced to sit back on her heals to deal with him.

Catching his head, Ginny forced the large dog to look at her. “Stop that,” she told him firmly. “I’ve got to hurry. I need to be gone before Hagrid gets back and you’re not helping.”

Fang’s eyes were large and expressive. They appealed to her, asking her to scratch and stroke and play with him. Ginny bit her lower lip and flexed her fingers in his fur. It was soft and warm and it did feel remarkably good to touch. Before any errant thoughts could invade, however, she scratched behind his ears and once again pushed him away.

“Later,” she told him.

She turned her attention back to the basket and reached for her satchel. Opening it, she pulled out the magazine and moved to place it under the heavy bed. Something stopped her hands as she moved to do so however, and she lowered the basket to the floor.

Holding the magazine in both her hands, she stared hard at the picture on the front cover. She could not fool herself into thinking that she was experiencing anything other than regret. She really did not want to put the magazine back. She wanted to steal it away so that she could look at it whenever she wanted to. Then there was the question of the other copies that she had seen tucked away under the bed.

She longed to look at them all. She had already noted down the address that she could use to subscribe to the magazine, but it would be so much simpler (not to mention less expensive) to read the back copies that Hagrid had hidden away.

She was halfway through flicking through the magazine one last time when the door behind her was flung open. It impacted with the wooden arm of the worn couch that was behind it with such a loud bang that Ginny’s heart leapt into her mouth. She was on her feet before she even realised what she was doing, and when she saw who was stood in the doorway, she quickly thrust the magazine behind her back.

“Ginny, what are yeh doin’ here?”

NB: Shorter chapter... and not much smut. There is more on the way though. This was originally going to be a longer chapter but this seemed like a good place to stop. Hopefully the next update should be much quicker. Thanks to everyone who reviewed! Feel free to do so again...
