Chapter 3- Breakfast

Chapter 3- Lessons

The first lesson Rose had was Care of Magical Creatures, as first she found it surprising that none of the others took the subject considering they liked the teacher so much. However she soon realised why so many people were reluctant to take the class (she was the only person to take it at NEWT level) when Hagrid told her about some of the animals he had shown his other classes.

‘So is there anything particular you want ter study?’ Hagrid asked excitedly.
‘Well after today I don’t really mind, but can we please go into the forest? I really need to go and see the unicorns.’

‘I don’t think yer’ll be wanting to go find them, it can be dangerous in there yer kno’,’ But she was already gone.

She entered the clearing and sat down on a broken log. She uttered a haunting low-pitched note that seemed to carry on for miles, and the she sat back and waited. Hagrid hovered at the edge of the clearing, unsure of what he should do.

Nothing happened at first, and then slowly the unicorns came.

‘Blimey,’ Hagrid said quietly, trying not do disturb them, ‘Dumbledore said yer were special but I wasn’t expectin’ this.’

Rose smiled at Hagrid and then she stood up and greeted the leader of the heard. He bowed and Rose embraced him, she hadn’t seen her fiend in a long time. They talked in their own special way and Rose blessed the new born foals.
Unfortunately it wasn’t long before the school bell went. Rose got up and left but not before promising them she would return later along with Firelight.

When they reached Hagrid’s cabin Rose left to go to her next lesson, Defence Against the Dark Arts, while Hagrid hurried off to tell Dumbledore about his discovery.

This year Dumbledore had persuaded the real Alistair ‘Mad-eye’ Moody to teach. He started the lesson by paring everyone up and making them duel each other to see what they could do.

Rose was paired up with Hermione and was reluctant to do anything and she completely refused to take her wand out. She was more powerful than anyone could imagine and she could do a lot of damage with even the simplest spells. Hermione of the other hand, send every spell she knew at Rose but they didn't seem to hit her, and if they did they didn’t do any visible damage, event he most powerful spells Hermione dared used had no effect.

Mad-Eye noticed the two girls and quickly called a halt to the lesson.

‘Rose stay behind,’ he growled as the rest of the class filed out.

Once everyone else had left the classroom, Rose turned and looked at her teacher expectantly.

‘Crucio,’ he shouted.

Nothing happened.

‘Imperio.’

Nothing.

‘Averda Kedevera.’

The spell didn't reach Rose; it hit a fly in mid air.

Rose collapsed on the floor.

She awoke slowly to find Professor Dumbledore and Professor Moody stand above her.

‘Ah, you’re awake,’ Dumbledore said delightedly, ‘would you care to tell us what happened?’

‘He hit a fly,’ she answered simply, getting up off the floor.

This seemed to be enough for Dumbledore, because he said quite cheerfully, ‘all right Rose, off to Potions with you.’

She arrived to Potions late.

‘Sorry I'm late sir,’ she said politely, while leading to a seat next to Neville, ‘I was with Dumbledore.’

’20 points from Griffindor for you’re lateness and 10 points for talking.’

‘Professor,’ Rose answered grinning, ‘you should know that what I did and what I am doing now are not against the rules of technically you can’t take points away.’

Snape looked as if he was about to explode, however instead of yelling he walked quietly over to her desk and bent down until his face was only a couple of inches from hers, and he hissed with his lips barely moving, ‘I’ll see you after the lesson.’

He stalked away and Rose began the potion on he board. Neville was shaking next to her as he fumbled trying to cut the ingredient correctly.

Smiling slightly, Rose started talking about the properties of the plant and how cutting it in a certain way made it more effective to the potion. Neville perked up at this and explained that herbology what his best subject.
‘Shouldn’t you be really good a potions then?’

Blushing Neville stammered, ‘Professor Snape makes me nervous and then I mess up.’

‘Forget about him, just focus on the ingredients and think of it as another part of herbology.

Rose stood up to get some more ingredients and found Professor Snape stood behind her smirking maliciously.

‘Talking again, tut tut, you should know better than that 30 p-‘ but he never got to finish his sentence because at that moment the door crashed opened and Firelight trotted in.

‘Rose, I'm bored now, I’ve got no one to play with, come and play with me now.’ The little unicorn demanded.

‘I'm sorry Firelight I can I'm in a lesson.’

‘Fine,’ he said sulkily, ‘I’ll stay right here then,’ he sat down on the floor.

Snape was still standing there, furious, his face red and he was shaking with barely suppressed anger, ‘that’s enough, I demand order in my class room,’ he bellowed making more people jump and rush back to their work.

Firelight turned around, startled, then he broke out into a massive smile before jumping around excitedly, ‘Uncle Sev,’ he screamed delightedly, ‘I didn't know you worked here.’

Rose slammed her head on the desk, that unicorn had the biggest mouth.

‘Why didn't you tell me Uncle Sev was here?’ Firelight asked Rose, slightly hurt that she left him out.

‘Because,’ Rose answered hugging her friend, ‘you can’t keep a secret.’

‘Oh yea,’ Firelight said meekly. Blushing, ‘well I guess the secrets out now.’

Rich laughter filled the room and no one, but Rose and Firelight, could believe their eyes. Snape was doubled over laughing. Actually laughing.

Three people passed out and by the time the class was over everyone was sure Rose had somehow managed to slip him a potion or something.

Snape finally got control of himself, tears where still streaming down his face from laughing so much, He smiled fondly at Rose and Firelight.

‘Dumbledore’s going to be angry with us isn’t he?’ Firelight asked sadly.

‘No, it’s fine, it’s about time Voldemort knew about my connection to you tow,’ he sighed, ‘at least I won’t have to pretend to hate you know that its out.

A/N Its finally finished. Sorry that there has been such a gap between updates, I will try to get the next chapter up fast. Hope you like it. Please review.
