The True Heir of Dark
Chapter 2
The next day, Hermione spent it hiding in the library. However, by lunch Ron had finally found her and began talking to her.
“There you are. Why are you hiding in here?” Ron asked.
“I’m not hiding, Ron. I’m just relaxing with a good book,” Hermione answered with a sigh.
“Why don’t you join me in the backyard? Harry and I are going to practice a little Quidditch,” Ron asked.
“Oh come on Ron. I watch the matches at school, but you know I’m not a fan of the sport,” Hermione moaned.
“What’s wrong with you? Why don’t you want to hang out with me anymore?” he asked.
“It’s just that we have different hobbies. I like to sit in the library and read or study. You don’t like that. You prefer to play Quidditch and nothing more,” she answered.
“Whatever,” he grumbled and left.
Hermione let out a sigh. Now she was sure that Dumbledore was encouraging Ron. All she wanted to do was beat him senseless. Unfortunately, she couldn’t do that. A few moments later, Remus entered the library.
“Hello Hermione,” Remus greeted.
“Hey Remus,” Hermione smiled.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Nothing,” she answered.
“Hermione, I know you. Something is bothering you. You know you can trust me,” he said.
“Well, it’s Ron. He’s been trying to get me to go out with him. I don’t care about him that way. I don’t know what to do,” she sighed.
“Have you told him you’re not interested?” he questioned.
“No. I don’t want to hurt him,” she replied.
“Look, I think you need to tell him. Otherwise, you may end up hating him,” he advised, even though his instincts were telling him, she was one step away from hating Ron.
“You’re right I suppose,” she sighed.
“You may not want to do it, but if you don’t, your friendship will suffer,” he said.
Hermione nodded. Remus pulled out a book of his own and began reading as well. Hermione picked up her book again and continued to read. As she read, Remus’ thoughts drifted.
‘I want to tell her and Severus I know about them, as well as the real reason Dumbledore is so keen on keeping Hermione under his thumb. Unfortunately, I must wait until Severus takes her to see Voldemort tonight,’ Remus thought sadly.

“Hermione, can we talk?” Ron asked as he entered the library a few hours later.
“I will leave you two alone. Remember my advice Hermione,” Remus said as he stood up.
Hermione nodded. Ron walked over and sat on the sofa as Remus left. Hermione marked her place and sat the book aside. She stood up and joined Ron on the sofa.
“What did you want to talk about?” she sighed.
“Us,” he answered.
“Oh Ron. Not again,” she moaned.
“Just hear me out. Please,” he said. She nodded. “Hermione, I love you. I want us to become a couple. Why can’t you give me a chance?” he asked.
“Ron, look. I’m flattered, really I am, but I don’t feel the same way. I only care for you as a friend. Nothing more,” she answered.
Ron’s eyes flashed in anger. Before Hermione could blink, he grabbed her and jerked her to her feet. A second later he slammed his lips over hers. Hermione began to struggle, but he was holding her too tight. He pulled away, but kept an iron tight grip on her upper arms.
“Ow! Ron stop it! You’re scaring me! Let me go!” Hermione cried, fear and anger surging through her.
“Am I not good enough for you? Is that it! You’re seeing Harry aren’t you! Behind my back!” Ron yelled.
“I’m not dating Harry. What’s gotten into you? You’re scaring me!” she cried.
SLAP!! Hermione fell to the carpet. Her hand held her stinging cheek as she looked up fearfully at Ron, who was glaring down evilly at her.
“You’ll regret turning me down Hermione. Just wait and see,” Ron hissed.
Hermione watched as he stormed from the library. Once alone, she let out a shuddered breath. She got to her feet shakily, grabbed her book, and ran upstairs to her room, locking and warding the door securely behind her.

“Mione, it’s time for dinner,” Ginny said later that evening.
“I’m not hungry,” Hermione replied.
“You sick or something?” Ginny asked.
“It’s that time of the month Gin. I’ll get something later,” Hermione answered.
“Gotcha, I’ll tell mum,” Ginny said.
Hermione heard Ginny walk away. She once again, pulled the quilt tightly around her. After she had locked herself in her room, she began crying. She was scared Ron would show up and do more than just slap her.

Downstairs, Ginny re-entered the kitchen and sat down beside Ron. Molly looked up.
“Where’s Hermione honey?” Molly asked.
“Um, she’s a bit under the weather mum. If you catch my drift,” Ginny answered with a knowing look.
“Oh. Well, I’ll put something aside for her later,” Molly nodded in understanding.
Remus and Harry shared a look. They both knew that something was wrong. They had seen Hermione run upstairs a few minutes after Ron stormed from the library. After dinner, Harry and Remus retreated to Remus’ room.
“What do you think happened?” Harry asked.
“I don’t know. Look, what I’m about to tell you, you must swear a Wizard’s Oath that you will not repeat any of this to anyone until I say otherwise. Do you swear?” Remus answered.
“I swear a Wizard’s Oath that I won’t repeat anything discussed in this room ‘til you say otherwise.” Harry vowed.
The magic surged between the two, sealing the oath. Remus gestured for Harry to have a seat. Once seated, Remus told him about going to Severus, about the pending attack on Hermione’s parents, what Severus said he would do, and about what he had overheard Albus telling Arthur, Molly, and Ron.
“Do you really trust him?” Harry asked.
“If you are referring to Severus, the answer is yes. There’s more to this, but I can’t tell you now. Not until Hermione meets with Voldemort.” Remus answered.
“Hermione is dating Snape isn’t she?” Harry questioned.
“What makes you think that?” Remus countered with a straight face.
“When Hermione said she was seeing someone, but she couldn’t tell me. Plus, the fact that Snape even agreed to talk to Voldemort.” Harry answered simply.
“I believe they are, but neither have said so to me.” Remus said.
“Well, all I care about is her protection and her happiness. If she follows Snape and joins Voldemort, so will I.” Harry stated.
Remus nodded in agreement. The two then headed back downstairs for some hot tea and muffins.

Hermione waited nervously ‘til five minutes before midnight. She knew everyone was sound asleep as she quietly sneaked downstairs. She made her way to the front entryway. She didn’t have to wait long. About a minute after she arrived, Severus showed up.
“Severus.” Hermione sighed as she hurried to him.
“Oh Hermione. Come on, we must hurry.” Severus whispered as he hugged her.
The two left the house and Severus apparated them away to Tom’s location. They arrived at Tom’s mansion a few seconds later. Hermione stared in awe of the beautiful home.
“Mia, I know this must be scary for you, but please give Tom a chance to explain things.” Severus said.
“I will Severus. As for being scared, I’m not. I feel quite calm.” Hermione replied.
Severus nodded. He linked her arm with his, and together they entered the mansion. Hermione felt as if what she was about to discover, would forever change her life.
