The Light
Draco woke up in his room, the sunshine streaming into his room as he sat up. He looked around but nothing was disturbed, nothing was different. He felt so completely refreshed, renewed and just at peace that he felt giddy at the same time. He couldn’t help the grin spreading over his face as the memories started to rush from the ending backward. He slowly started to frown as he remembered the beginning, he had been broken but he had also been put back together, just like she had promised. He looked down but nothing was different, there were no marks on his ivory skin but then he frowned, he was naked. He only slept naked if he had, had sex the night before. He flung his thick brocade forest green covers to the side and hurried to the bathroom. He stared in horror at the thick slave collar wrapped around his neck.
“So it wasn’t a dream,” he breathed, lightly touching the metal ring. A sick feeling started in his stomach and he started clawing at the collar. It wouldn’t unbuckle, wouldn’t come off him. He growled in frustration and stormed off to his room. He looked around and spotted his wand.
“Finite incantatum,” He shouted, waving his wand at the collar but it didn’t come off. He tried everything he could think of but it still wouldn’t budge from his neck. He finally slumped into his chair in front of his desk and moodily glared at the wall across from him. He finally got up and went to his walk in closet to get dressed.
Hermione was humming happily to herself as she read her book in her common room. She had her shapely legs propped up on the back of the sofa, her pleated skirt riding dangerously up as she lightly chewed on her index finger. She had on a light blue baby tee with a little grinning chibi character waving on the front. Draco’s door burst open and she looked up. He was looking frazzled with his hair barely contained and his clothes looking slightly rumpled.
“Get this fucking thing off me!” He shouted at her, pointing at the collar still around his neck.
“I wasn’t about to let you just talk yourself out of what happened last night. I want you to remember and believe in all of it,” she smirked at him, he growled loudly and threw himself onto the chair next to her.
“I hate you,” he pouted. She pulled her legs down and set her book next to her. She then moved fluidly down between his legs and grinned up at his surprised expression.
“You know you don’t,” she teased and started rubbing her hands up and down his thighs. He tried to move up and away from her but she just dug her nails into him and he froze. Her face hardened slightly.
“You’re mine Draco,” she said and kneeled up, forcefully taking his lips into her own. He tried pulling away from her but she crawled up into his lap and wrapped her hands on either side of his head to keep him from moving. He slid his hands down to grab her ass as she ground against him hungrily. She then bit his lip and he groaned, hungrily returning her kiss. She pulled back away from him, panting, he tried to follow but she giggled and he opened his eyes.
“What do you call me?” She asked, looking into his eyes.
“My goddess,” he breathed, running his hand up her body.
“Wonderful,” she pulled completely away from him and stood up, picking up her book.
“Wait, what about publicly? I can’t go around calling you goddess and following after you like a love sick puppy. My father will destroy me,” real fear started to bubble up inside of him.
“Don’t worry about him too much. He’ll never come out of some dark corner ever again to beat you down again. He was sentenced to Azkaban for life, don’t you remember? Besides, we will protect you,” Hermione explained, Draco frowned.
“What makes you so sure I’m on your side now?” Draco asked, she smirked.
“You love me, you would never betray a bond that strong, no one can. Besides, we’re the only ones that will protect you. Your mother obviously has proven that she can’t, your father can’t also and won’t. Voldemort would destroy you the second he had the chance and that means everyone else is after your blood also,” Hermione pointed out.
“I already knew I had no one but myself Granger,” Draco growled, she rolled her eyes.
“You’re so naive my love. You don’t even have yourself. When you’re up against the wall and everyone is hunting for even the scent of your fear, it’s impossible to protect yourself, you’re just overwhelmed. Getting lonely, out there, all alone? But you’re not and until you get that through that thick skull of yours, you’ll realize that you’ll never be alone again,” she turned away from him and disappeared out into the rest of the castle. He stared after her, thoughts running rabid through his brain. He did feel different, he felt more real, more alive, more in control of his life. He wasn’t afraid of Lucius anymore or Voldemort. He suddenly didn’t care if his father tried to disown him or if Voldemort tried out all the unforgivables on him. He suddenly felt strong and she had given him that. She didn’t have to, didn’t have to kidnap and torture him, didn’t have to break him down and then rebuild him back up, better than he ever was. She didn’t have to trust him because he suddenly realized that, she completely trusted him not to go to McGonagall and tell her everything, that she was a sick, twisted dominatrix that had forced him to do dirty things. And Harry Potter! Draco found himself truly surprised by that, the guy was undeniably good at giving BJs which made him slightly sick but at the same time weirdly curious. He groaned and quickly abandoned his fastly becoming disturbing thoughts and got up, hurrying down to the great hall to have lunch.
Draco managed to get through lunch with out too many questions. People mostly just stared at his neck. He wandered down to the dungeons where Prof. Snape was just cleaning up from his weekend tutoring with some of his Slytherins. He sat down as Snape glanced up at him.
“Good afternoon Draco,” Snape murmured, Draco leaned forward and put his chin in his hands.
“Was it all planned out? Helping me escape, knowingly getting yourself into something that would either destroy me or destroy yourself?” Draco asked, Snape shook his head.
“I don’t want to discuss this right now Mr. Malfoy, I have other things that demand my attention,” Snape snapped his satchel closed and picked it up from his desk.
“Why did you let him? Why let him sacrifice himself and then sacrifice yourself for me? I have a right to know,” Draco stood up, Snape stared at him then sighed and sat his satchel down next to his feet.
“Draco, we know about Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger’s bond, we allow it to happen because they give strength to eachother that way. They take care of each other and that is the only way we are going to get through this war. Headmaster Dumbledore wanted to give you many gifts, one of them was your life, another your sanity. He wanted to show you that there is truly life outside of your father’s influence. I made a promise to your mother when you were born to do everything in my power to save you from the Dark Lord. I have accomplished that and more. Yes, I made a terrible sacrifice, I killed the last shining beacon of hope in the wizarding world but no matter what, you and Harry Potter are the future. I can’t let another Dark Lord rise up from the last one, more powerful and evil than the last,” Snape explained then picked up his bag and quietly left. Draco slowly sat back down and thought over what Snape had just told him. Was it really all about grooming into being the heir to the Dark Lord, to take on his fight? He knew deep inside that he wasn’t evil but twist him enough and he would have been. Draco finally stood up and walked back to his common room. It was fortunately deserted and he sat down on the sofa to think in front of the flickering flames. The door opened and he glanced over.
“Sorry, just looking for Hermione,” Harry murmured and turned to leave.
“She’s not here, I don’t know where she is. Potter, do you really think we are the ones to lead everyone into the next generation?” Draco asked, Harry stopped and looked back at the other.
“Who else? You’re Head Boy, heir to the richest family in the wizarding world and Prince of Slytherin. I am Harry Potter, the boy who lived,” Harry spread his arms and shrugged.
“Do you think we should be fighting each other?” Draco asked, Harry blinked.
“We always have,” Harry continued uncertainly.
“But do we go on after we graduate, being the banes of each other’s existences. I’m to take over my father’s chair at the Ministry, everything’s already set up and you’ve already been accepted into training to be an auror. We’ll be seeing each other almost everyday in one way or another,” Draco pointed out.
“I don’t think we have to be. It’s a different world out there past these walls. A little less clear cut,” Harry smiled slightly.
“A little but you’ll still have Granger and Weasley,” Draco murmured, Harry nodded in final understanding.
“Trust me, when she claims you, there’s nothing that will stop her from keeping you. Don’t worry Malfoy, you’ll be seeing a lot more of me than you might think,” Harry walked out of the common room into the rest of the castle. Draco slowly smiled, wondering why he actually felt good about knowing he’ll probably be spending the rest of his natural born life with the Weasel, Scarhead and the mudblood.
