Five Hours Missing

Author's note--Short, but I'm evil. It's a cliffie, and I'm sorry! I'm working on the ending RIGHT NOW, actually, so trying to get everything tied up in a neat little bow. However, since it's so short, if you would like me to post the next installment (which, I warn you, has an even worse cliff-hanger) in a couple of hours, I will.

Thanks to everyone who reviewed so far! I'm so glad you guys like it! And you either know the show or are amazingly patient, because I'm sure that if I were the one reading it, I'd be screaming at the author-me to post soon and asking all kinds of plot-ruining questions. (You guys can ask, of course, and I will try really, really hard to answer without revealing anything...haha)

Also, since it's so short, I'll respond to the reviews at the end (**sorry if you don't like that**...but like I said, I'll post the next installment--which is longer but with a violent cliffie--if you want. Just let me know...)

Without a Trace

FIVE HOURS MISSING

Samantha and Jack had brought Draco to Headquarters, and he had been waiting for a couple of hours in one of the lounges with a cup of cold coffee. Martin had placed Pansy in a different waiting room. Jack’s team convened around the big round table, next to the dry erase board where the timeline was drawn.

“Report,” Jack ordered tersely.

“Draco Malfoy, age twenty-five, in New York on vacation but lives in England. Here with wife Pansy and son Parker. Parker disappeared from FAO Schwartz, and the husband claims he has no idea what happened. He looked away for a minute, and when he looked back, his son was gone. He panicked, one of the employees called security. They immediately set people out looking and called the police, who added people on the ground, and then they called us. It doesn’t sound like they have a happy marriage, and I don’t think it’s a set-up, at least not on his part. He admitted to having plenty of enemies, but I’m not entirely convinced the wife’s innocent,” Samantha began the discussion. Martin was next.

“Pansy Parkinson Malfoy’s alibi checks out. The manager at Tiffany’s vouched right then and there that she was in the store the entire time, so she didn’t do it. She was genuinely upset to hear about the disappearance of her son, and she blamed it on her husband. I’m not exactly sure if it was just normal reactive shock or if because he’s somehow involved in this, but if you don’t think he is, Sam…” Martin trailed off. Vivian jumped in.

“We’ve been trying to compile all of the information that we can about them, but we don’t have much. You would think they were the Royal family with the way everyone locks up when we mention their names. Here’s what we DO know: Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson were both born in 1980 in England, got married in May of 1999, and their son Parker James was born in April 2002," Vivian was reading from her notes. "His father is deceased, and his mother is in prison for conspiracy against the British crown, although it looks to me like there were some details erased from the file to cover something else up, but we have no idea what.”

Harry stared at the table, miserable. He knew what the ‘something else’ was; the British government was aware of the wizarding world and worked closely with the Ministry of Magic to keep all magical details under wraps. Narcissa was serving a life sentence in Azkaban for being a Death Eater, but the Ministry couldn’t exactly announce that without giving it away that she was a witch. Vivian continued.

“We’re still working on a list of known associates and enemies, but we were able to obtain a little bit of their financial history. Their estate, Malfoy Manor, went from employing about ten servants to two hundred over the course of about a month, May 1998, and that was the norm until their son was born, when they cut back down to fifty, which is what it’s been at for the past three years.”

“The mother mentioned that there were threats from her husband’s enemies that stopped right around then, so maybe something happened in May 1998 that pissed them off and made them threaten the family. But why would they just stop when the son was born? And the mother said that this was the first time they had been out of the house, so the husband was paranoid, even after the threats stopped,” Martin interjected, looking around the table.

“The husband mentioned a Blaise Zabini as a potential enemy. He said Zabini was angry about them coming here, but he shut down after that,” Sam offered. Elena jotted the name down to check out.

“HJ and I talked with the store employees and people who were around. A couple of people came forward to say that they remembered seeing the boy, but no one saw anything suspicious. Typical,” Danny snorted, looking at his green-eyed co-worker. “But I bet HJ could tell us a thing or two. What happened in May 1998, HJ?” The entire table’s attention shifted to Harry, and he glared at Danny for a second before responding. Everyone already knew that their newest team member had a prior connection to the parents, so now it was just a matter of him filling them in.

“May 1998, Draco, Pansy, and I graduated from…high school. His father was associated with a bad crowd. They created trouble, raped, tortured, robbed, et cetera. You name it, they did it. It was the British equivalent of an American gang or cult or something like that…a cult, I guess, would be more appropriate. Draco was supposed to join, but he refused. The leader…of the cult…um, died unexpectedly in December 1997, during our last year, and most of his followers were arrested, except for a couple. We lived at Hog-…at the private school, so as long as he was there, Draco was safe. His mother was arrested for being part of the cult, but after we graduated and he moved back home, I guess the threats started. That was the last I saw of him and the last time we spoke, though,” Harry explained, face flaming.

“So…” Samantha began, putting the pieces together. “You moved here, with your wife and baby girls, one year after graduating HIGH SCHOOL? You already have kids, and you haven’t even gone to college?” she sounded incredulous. “What the hell kind of high school was it? Military?” Harry winced, realizing that, in his experience as one of the main leaders of the Order, how close she was to being right.

“Er, something like that. Look, this isn’t about me, though. This is about Draco,” he protested.

“Right, but you were once one of his enemies, weren’t you?” Jack butted in. Harry flushed.

“Yes, but that was when we were eleven! We’re not….anymore…I mean…” Harry tripped over his words, trying to figure out a plausible story. “Draco’s family was heavily involved in the…cult, and I was on the…other side. The people who were fighting against the cult and their influence; not to mention he was a loathsome little cockroach up until our last year!” Danny raised an eyebrow again.

“Elena, make sure you include that in his character profile. ‘Loathsome little cockroach’,” Danny quipped, making everyone laugh and breaking the tension, since he had shifted the focus to Harry in the first place. Harry’s phone beeped, indicating a text message, and the blood drained from his face as he read it aloud to the others, his voice shaking.

“Potter—we have the Malfoy brat. Check your email.”

Author's note--Again, sorry, sorry for the cliffie! I'll respond to reviews now; hopefully that might help take the sting out of it?

KLS--thanks for your review! I have never been asked that before, actually, so if you want an email when I update...okay. I'll send you an email in just a minute. lol And as to how Harry got Ginny pregnant...that's coming. (Not until closer to the end, but it's coming)

BrokenDreams--*gasp* You picked my favorite! haha I agree; Enrique is AMAZING! Hence why I decided to write myself in as "Danny's girlfriend" Actually, I've written a couple of other strictly WOaT fanfics, with me as "Danny's girlfriend Ashleigh" so I'm amused that I'm crossing over from me-in-WOaT to me-in-WOaT-with-Harry-and-Draco. Thanks for reviewing!

HPDMkawii--I know, I'm a horrible person. Unfortunately, the cliffies just get worse as the climax looms...beware! haha Thanks for your review, and hope you come back!

Danine--You should check it out! WOaT is AMAZING! (I'll thank you down below haha)

fanficmom--Thanks for your review!

Snarry-lover--I hear you! I'm addicted to a lot of fics too, in addition to trying to write my own...lol plus school and all! Argh. This is WAAAAAY more fun than reading for class, though! *giggles* Thanks for your review!

mariahs_fantasy--You'll see how Harry and Draco get together. And right now...I've a minimum of four chapters left, maybe more if I break a couple of the never-ending ones into two smaller chapters. Thanks for reviewing and hope you come back to read it!

BrokenDreams--Sorry about the killing thing...it's only going to get worse, and believe me, I feel horrible. Good of you to pick up on that *wink wink*

Samayel--*GASP* You came to read it! Be still, my leaping heart (and stomach). Yay, I'm so glad you think it's going well! That makes me really happy, especially coming from you! Thanks for reviewing!

NOTE TO EVERYONE: IF YOU HAVEN'T READ ANY OF SAMAYEL'S STUFF, YOU ARE SOOOOO MISSING OUT! GO READ!

KLS--haha I'm amused. and I'm sorry for the "single scene" in this short chapter, but you have those sometimes.

Samayel--Yay, you still like it! lol Have you never seen WOaT? It makes me sad for people who haven't, because I love it so much! (But I want to be with "Danny Taylor" which frees Harry and Draco up for each other--and not me--I just wanna watch!)

Danine--oh my gosh, thanks for your review! And when I said "down below" I didn't mean THERE.......*blushes* Never mind. Back to your review: you have such kind words! They mean a lot to me, and I really appreciate it!

Draca--Thanks for your review! I'm really glad you think it follows the plot. I have Seasons 1-3 on DVD, and I've seen them so many times, so I'd HOPE I would have some idea of how their plotlines go! haha *sad* about "Lush" not continuing, but YAY for drunken sex! (and sex cures the hangover haha) Thanks for reading "Dragon and Savior" (did you review it? haha j/k That's not a hint or anything....*guilty look* No, seriously, I'm kidding) Yeah, Equus was awesome! Thanks for your offer! Is a beta supposed to be the one to look for plot holes and that sort of thing? I'm rather obsessive in my own right about the grammar and spelling, but I'm forever scrolling up and down, trying to make sure that I catch every little thing in my plots and tie them up! Yeah, just call me "OCD"...

EmeraldGrey--*gasp* OMG I'm so sorry for instigating flashbacks for you! Thanks for your review! I really appreciate it. I've been to New York (and to FAO Schwartz) which is one reason why I picked this as the setting...not to mention, it's where WOaT is! And thank you very much for your compliment that it seems so real. I'm not a mother (I'm still in grad school! lol) but I've watched enough WOaT that I think I can simulate the fear aspect for parents. Hearing that you've experienced what I'm only imagining, and thinking that it's very realistic, makes me happier than you can imagine.

And that reminds me: I would like to briefly share my inspiration for this story.

I was at SuperMacs (the Irish equivalent of McDonalds) waiting on my food, and there was the CUTEST little girl with her dad! I glanced at her, did a double take, and then kept glancing back to look at her because she was SO CUTE! No, I am not a kidnapper or anything, but it made me think of a book I read recently "Two Little Girls in Blue" by Mary Higgins Clark about twins who were kidnapped because a woman wanted them (among other reasons).

And then I started thinking about kidnapping and how that would probably be my number one fear as a parent because I'm such a control freak and I HATE waiting. The combination of NOT KNOWING where my child is and WAITING for information would drive me crazy faster than anything, I think. I couldn't read "The Face on the Milk Carton" for a long time, but I watched the movie and read the book.

There was a book, told from the sibling's point of view, about the brother/sister who was taken. And I think I got about a chapter or two past the actual kidnapping and was so traumatized by the descriptions of NOT KNOWING and WAITING and the helplessness that I cheated, read the last chapter, and realized that the child was never returned! I cried for about a week and never picked up that book again. I don't even remember the name of it, but I just couldn't finish it knowing that it wouldn't be a nice, neat, here's-everything-mysterious-that-happened ending. So in a way, writing this story has been very hard for me, thinking about it from Draco's point of view, and yet non-traumatic because *I* know what's going on with Parker, but I do feel bad for traumatizing you guys, my faithful readers! Thanks for bearing with me!
