The Hospital Wing
Chapter III
The Hospital Wing
Snape rushed to the hospital wing and barged open the white hospital doors when he called out, "Poppy! Is she going to be okay?"
"Now see here, Professor Snape! This is the hospital wing! Calm down, she’ll be fine, but I must ask you to leave her alone to rest." Madam Pomfrey hissed at Snape, rushing towards him. Snape, not taking in everything Pomfrey has said, made his way to Saleno’s side. He looked down on her pale face, and blue lips.
"Professor, please leave Ms. Saleno be. She needs rest, for goodness sake!" hissed the matron up at the Potions Master.
"Yes Poppy, just let me make sure she'll live to play in the on coming Quidditch match." Snape looked at Madam Pomfery with a sneer on his lips. "Please Poppy."
Madam Pomfrey looked livid at the thought of this. The Potions master’s only concern here was that one of his star players was fine for Slytherin. Would he still care if she wasn’t a Quidditch player? She walked off to her office briskly while she pondered the possibilities.
Snape sat beside Saleno, brushing soft strands of hair out of her pale face. He brushed her cold cheek with his fingers, clasped her hand and whispered something in some foreign language. Saleno's face flushed, her eyelids fluttered as though something was caught in her eyes, her lips parted with a gasp and a soft red mist escaped her lips and Snape’s eyes grew bright as he stared at her. Her eyes squinted as she looked up and around the room, as she tried to figure out where she was. Her face looked shocked when her eyes fell on Severus Snape on her left.
"Ms. Saleno, are you alright?” he asked in a whisper.
"Yes, Professor" she replied, smiling softly at him still weak, trying to convince him so he wouldn’t look down at her like one of his specimens . She tried to get up but only ended up moaning in pain then falling back down unto the bed. Snape lifted his dark eyebrow and transfigured a bigger pillow and stuffing it behind her red haired head lifting her roughly and helped her lay back on it.
"Thank you, Professor" she whispered at him. Snape looked down suddenly and nodded his face blank.
"What happened in there Ms. Saleno?" he asked clearing his throat, "What has happened to you, this after effect of the Cruciatus curse is most bizarre."
Saleno shook her head, "I’m sorry Professor. It started off as a friendly duel. She tried aiming killing curses as me and I tried the Imperius curse on her to make her break her wand because she wouldn’t stop the killing curse. She threw it off and hit me with the Cruciatus curse. I don’t really remember what happened after I passed out, Sir. I don’t remember what happened next." She looked at him looking at her, his face blank but with a hint of concern and she could see it.
“You better be well enough to play Quidditch when it’s time.” he whispered suddenly.
She blinked. She knew Snape loved his house, but didn’t reckon he’d be into Quidditch at all.
“I’ll try to be, Professor.” She said back to him, trying to sound determined. But the truth was that Gryffindor has been on top by 500 points for the past few months now even though Potter has gone missing. Ever since the disappearance of Harry Potter at Hogwarts, most Slytherins have been attacked by the rest of the school and the points have suffered. Jade’s darkslategray eyes tried to focus on Snape’s face.
Snape looked serious all of a sudden and stood up abruptly. "Listen to me Ms. Saleno; you had a fit after the curse lifted. I don’t understand it myself, but I request you come see me after every class from now on. We need to make sure you’re perfectly safe. I shall send you a note to when we shall meet."
"Err… For how long, Sir?" she asked him curiously.
Snape’s eyebrows had risen slightly and his lips almost looked like it broke into a grin. "Perhaps for only an hour, Ms. Jade Saleno? But these meetings must be discreet, understood?"
Saleno nodded doubtfully at this. Did he almost grin?
"Excellent" Snape said in a soft but stern voice, "Now get some rest. I shall come to visit you in a few hours to check on your condition." He got up and straightened his sleeves then brushed on his robes. “Remember Ms. Saleno, discreet." Saleno smiled softly and blushed heavily, her cheeks blood red at her Potions Master.
"Professor?" she called out softly at him as he turned to go.
"Yes, Saleno?" he faced her again.
“I’ll try my best for the match, Sir.” She tried to sound sincere. Snape looked at her for a moment in silence and nodded once to show his understanding. She closed her eyes and began to drift off but Snape had lingered. He brushed her hair out of her face, wanting to kiss her forehead, but instead placed her hand under the sheets and tucked her in. He finally got his body to respond to his instructions and had been able to take a step back away from her bed, after another few minutes of watching over her, he headed back to his office.
