Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story.
Day and Night
Greetings! This story and the concept began before the seventh book, however certain small aspects have been changed due to the last book. (I particularly loved Snape's memories, and will be drawing on them) Please review, as this keeps me writing. I have just recently gotten over a nearly year long hiatus from the site, due to schooling and personal reasons, and want to come back to the world of writing.

Day and Night
“Hey! You!”
Looking only briefly over her shoulder, Hermione fled the alley. A dark-robed man pursued her, coming away from the light of the street into the half-hazy gloom of the alley. She sprinted, attempting to dig her wand out from her jeans.
A gasp escaped her throat as she rounded a corner and nearly collided with a solid wall. Still struggling with her wand she made her decision and turned to face the rapidly approaching Death Eater. He came closer and she finally freed her wand.
“Stupefy!”
Lucius Malfoy grinned and bent down to retrieve the mudblood’s wand before the curse wore off.
“Yes, Lord Malfoy, she certainly is a mudblood, though we can neither determine whose wand she has stolen nor who her muggle parents are.”
Lucius gave the clerk a smile that was both charming and menacing. The startled ministry clerk nervously shifted
through some papers and then looked back to Malfoy, standing on the other side of the desk and entirely too close.
“She will be sold as a slave at the next auction, to be held January 1. 8,000 galleons will be the starting bid.”
Lucius’ smile did not falter, though inside he seethed. The girl was fairly attractive, and, as her captor, he hoped the ministry would hand her over as a prize for apprehending another mudblood.
“Perhaps, Perkins, you forget who I am?” he purred, letting the thinnest amount of anger show on his face.
“N-no sir, I am sorry, but the Dark Lord’s orders are that all mudbloods be kept until auction, security has tightened since that one Weasley fellow was caught freeing the mudblood he bought. Un-unless the order comes in from the Dark Lord himself, we cannot allow Right of Capture claims to take hold…” the nervous clerk, Perkins, stammered to a halt as Lucius turned and left.
Weasley, he thought to himself. The fool had bought a rather low priced mudblood at auction and tried to free the girl back to her family. He had been caught, of course, and executed for disobedience to the Dark Lord. And now, because of that idiot, he, Lucius Malfoy, the Dark Lord’s second lieutenant, was being denied what was rightfully his!
Oh, yes, the ministry was now under Voldemort’s control, but they operated with a new efficiency that favored none. Well, then, Lucius would have to buy the girl fair and square. It was only three days to the New Year.
Hermione never dreamed that this might happen. She huddled, alone, in a corner of the cells she shared with many
others. Earlier, when daylight had still been able to flood the room and she could see the other poor souls, she had recognized two other faces from Hogwarts, though they did not recognize her at all. Eileen Mayweather and Robin Smith had been Hufflepuffs a year below her and were muggleborn, like Hermione herself.
She winced as she shifted and tried to get a better view of the two, who had huddled together across the room.
Across her chest, the word “Mudblood” was etched in her own raw, aching flesh and blood.
They had held her down, wand less, and carved the word with a cutting curse. She had not screamed; she would not give them the satisfaction.
Perhaps she had never realized what Harry had meant to the wizarding world; he was the Boy Who Lived. He was a chance, a slim possibility, that Voldemort and his army would not rise high enough to conquer the world. But weeks of living in this strange realm had drained her of her hope.
Hermione had heard the Death Eaters talking about selling them. Honestly, she thought, how had things gotten this bad, selling muggleborns? For certainly, that was what each and every person in this room was. But without a wand, without a friend, without Harry or Ron, without hope, she could only sit here and wait for the dawn.
