Chapter 3

“Wait, wait, so you snogged Charlie?”

Remus let out an exasperated groan. “That is not the point I was trying to make.”

“Oh, but I think it’s rather important, don’t you? You snogged my boyfriend!”

“I certainly didn’t know he was your boyfriend. And it’s more like he snogged me anyway.”

“But you reciprocated, right? You said—”

“Tonks, focus, please!” Remus finally snapped. He was getting quite sick of blushing, and this whole situation was spiraling out of control already. “First, I think it’s not doing either of us any good to keep this a secret; if nothing else, think of Charlie and how upset he’d be.” That made her shut her mouth quite firmly. Remus nodded, then went on, more seriously. “We need the help with researching a solution as it is. I haven’t found anything, and neither have you. More hands on board may help us find it more quickly.”

“Remus, I really don’t want to tell.”

“I understand that,” he said, as soothingly as possible. “But we need to know how fully we’ve become one another. After all, it’s more than just a complex glamour if I’ve started, erm, your cycle. What happens if you start mine?”

At that, Tonks blanched.

“…so you see, it’s imperative that we find a solution before the next full moon.” Remus finished his address to the Order with a sigh. Most of the members seemed more amused than anything else, though a few appeared to understand the severity of the situation. Charlie’s face was redder than his hair, and he avoided eye contact with both Remus and Tonks; Harry, strangely, did the same.

Finally, Albus broke the silence, and they moved to discussing the issue. It was debated whether or not this might be a wicked scheme of Voldemort’s, though everyone but Moody tossed that notion aside – while it might be a clever trick to put somebody else through the transformations, if switching bodies had been Voldemort’s plan, why had he not put a Death Eater into an Order member’s body to spy? Thus, that theory was dropped.

Snape was assigned to researching and brewing potential potions as cures. Everyone else was left with different bookstores and libraries to pore through, in the hopes that one of them might stumble across a clue or, better yet, a solution.

It made for a quick meeting, and then they dissembled, leaving Remus’ head reeling with how quickly they had gone through the motions. He looked over to smile at Tonks, but she was already tearing off, presumably after Charlie, who had ducked out quite fast, face still red with embarrassment. Remus scrubbed a hand through hair that was longer than he was used to, and he pushed himself up from his seat.

As he was leaving, he heard Harry call to him. “Remus?” When he turned, Harry gave an audible sigh, as if he hadn’t quite believed it until that moment. “I, um… Can I talk to you for a second? It has to do with, er, your current… situation?”

“Of course, Harry,” he said as calmly as he could, watching the boy fidget and turn ever redder.

“Well, I, um. I’ve been having these dreams…”
