Every head in the room snapped to look at the man in the back of the room sitting on the windowsill. He looked quite pale, almost as though he could faint at any moment.
“Me?!” Sirius managed to croak out in disbelief.
“Of course,” Dumbledore smiled at him. “You are Pureblooded, are you not?” Sirius nodded slightly. “You are single, are you not?” Once again, Sirius produced a slight nod. “And you care about Miss Granger’s welfare, do you not?” Sirius nodded.
“Well then, I see we have found the perfect man.”
Sirius had finally found his voice. “But I hardly know the girl. I’m practically old enough to be her father, let alone her husband!”
“Ah, but Sirius, would you rather have her fall into the hands of the enemy?” Dumbledore asked quietly.
“No,” was all that Sirius could manage to stutter out. He sighed and leaned back on the windowsill as the other talked around him. It wasn’t that he didn’t like her. In fact, he enjoyed the time they spent together. She was a very bright young lady. And quite attractive as he had noticed lately. Hermione had certainly grown into her looks. Her hair had tamed down and she had curves in all of the right places. Sirius shook his head hard trying to rid himself of those thoughts. She’s old enough to be your daughter, man! Snap out of it!
“Well, I do believe that about takes care of things for the evening. Of course someone shall have to inform Miss Granger of the… news. Arthur, Molly, would you be so kind as to go and speak with Miss Granger? I believe that it shall be better for her coming from the two of you, seeing as how she is practically a daughter to you.”
Arthur nodded to Dumbledore. “Of course, Albus. We’ll go tell her, as soon as Molly has had the chance to collect herself a little,” he said, looking to his wife.
The Order quickly dispersed after that. Sirius stayed rooted to his spot on the windowsill as the others left. Remus Lupin, however, stayed behind, taking a seat at the table near his friend. “Well, my dear Padfoot. It seems you’ll be settling down at last.” He chuckled slightly as he said this.
Sirius looked up at Remus with a frown. “Moony, I do believe you’ve lost it. You look almost… excited at the idea, really. I’ll have to inform the rest of the Order that you’ve officially gone barmy.”
Remus laughed lightly. “I was merely teasing you, old friend. Life with Miss Granger shouldn’t be all that bad. Sure, she can be a bit stubborn at times, but she is a very bright girl, and pretty too.”
Sirius looked at him like he was mad. “But Moony, she’s a girl, she’s just a girl.”
“No, my friend, she will have come of age in a day… Tomorrow. And besides, it has been a very long time since Hermione was ‘just a girl’, as you put it. As long as I have known her, she has never acted like a child, and she certainly hasn’t looked like “just a girl” for some time now… You know, I think she may be a good influence on you,” Remus smiled a little bit at the thought.
“I’m going to bed, Moony. I suggest you go home and wash the crazy out of your head. I shall talk to you later.” Sirius sighed and got up from his perch, and wandered off to bed.
As he approached the top of the stairs, one of the doors flung open. Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Hermione all popped their heads out.
“Sirius, what happened? What was the meeting about? What’s going on?” Harry asked him.
