Harry's Date

Chapter two

Harry sat in a corner of a lively nightclub, with Blaise Zabini, watching all the men on the dance floor. The two had become close during the war and had frequently found solace in each other’s arms when things became particularly painful. When they had first started working together, Blaise was everything that Harry wasn’t. He was suave, sophisticated, and openly gay. Harry, having been raised by people who hated him and everything that he represented, had never been very comfortable in his own skin. He had envied the easy way the other man carried himself.

Once the two became friends, Blaise made it his personal mission to fix Harry’s self esteem issues. It was ridiculous in his mind that someone so powerful, kind, and downright sexy, could possibly doubt his worth. He gleaned just enough about the man’s upbringing to see how it happened, but he knew that Harry wasn’t even close to broken. Their largest arguments initially had been about Harry’s appearance. It had driven, Blaise crazy what a fight it was to get the man to dress well and get contacts. Having seen Harry in the shower a few times, Blaise could not understand not showing off the perfect body that he had. Eventually he got his way, although he thought it was probably just to shut him up.

“So how is life with the Malfoys?”

Harry chuckled. “Surprisingly pleasant, actually. The more I get to know Narcissa and Lucius, the more I like them. It is so hard to understand how they got involved in all that shite.” Seeing the lecture about to commence he raised a hand in surrender. “I know it started slowly and once you were in, you were screwed.” Smiling at his friend, he hoped he had circumvented the well known comeback.

“Right. I noticed that you didn’t include Draco in that statement. How is the blond ponce?”

“Still an arrogant git. If I hadn’t gone to school with him, I would never have believed that he was in Slytherin. Subtlety seems to be totally lost on him. I will have to take the Gryffindor approach I am afraid.”

Blaise snickered. “So your grand plan to show him you could be charming, but only if he was, has not met with stellar results?”

“Shut up, you arse. You are the one who said that he would figure it out. He is still so delusional. He called me a half blood the night we were married, and threw a hissy fit when I told them that I had a date with a friend this evening.”

Blaise smirked at his friend. “Did it occur to you that you just got married, and almost immediately left for a ‘date’? He is most likely jealous.”

“You are seriously dazed and confused. What is it with you and trying to set me up with him?” Harry was a little uncomfortable with the concept of Draco actually wanting him, though he wasn’t sure why. “You were with me when I went through all those fucked up applications. Who was I supposed to pick? Vincent Crabbe, with his interest in Blast-Ended Skrewts, or maybe sweet Bella with her hearts desire to find a man who is into blood play?”

Blaise just smiled benignly at the young man as he took another sip of his drink. “You know, you could have ended up with Snape. Perhaps you should be pleased that Draco applied.”

“If Snape had applied I would be married to him right now. I was actually hoping that he would.”

“What? You can’t be serious. You couldn’t possible want to sleep with him.”

Harry laughed at his friend. “Exactly. There would be no pressure. I would spend my evenings at home bickering with my husband, and not have to worry about sex at all.” Raising an eyebrow, Harry continued. “It really is a shame that the man couldn’t bring himself to offer himself to me, he has a dead sexy voice.” Laughing at the disgusted look on the former Slytherin’s face he continued in a more serious voice. “In all honesty though, Snape isn’t that bad. He may still hate me, and I still can’t quite get over him killing Dumbledore, but we have come to an understanding of sorts.”

“I know, after all the man taught you to snark with the best of them. I still don’t get it, Mr Malfoy. Even you have to admit that Draco is good looking.”

Shoving Blaise hard, Harry scowled at him. “Don’t call me that. We didn’t change either of our names. Why do I talk to you?”

“I think that would be because you love me.” He seemed to consider something. “Or it might be because I am one, of a very select few gay wizards, that can take that monster, you call a dick.” He laughed at the bright blush that suffused the other man’s face. “So answer the question. Why are you so determined to keep Draco at arms length?”

Standing up, Harry turned toward the dance floor. “I think, you just answered your own question.”

Blaise damned himself for his ill thought out comment. He knew that Harry had been rejected more than once by idiots who were afraid of being hurt, when they got past the trousers. At one time he had been glad that so few were there for the boy who lived. It had meant having the man to himself. It was selfish and he knew it, but he loved the green eyed man. He had come to accept that his feelings weren’t returned and he did want Harry to be happy. Sadly he kept trying to get Harry settled so that he could finally let go and move on. They hadn’t been intimate since Voldemort fell and he was glad, even though it hurt. If they had maintained their sexual relationship he didn’t think that he would be able to give him up.

Shaking his head, he went back to the matter at hand. If it was fear of rejection that made him avoid the obnoxious blond, then maybe he felt something for him, Blaise mused. He wondered how he could find out what Draco’s preferences were. He had never been close to him in school, but the rumors were pretty clear that he liked to be on the receiving end of things. He lost his train of thought as he caught sight of Harry dancing with an attractive brunette. It was breathtaking to watch him move. It struck him again how utterly ridiculous it was that he doubted his appeal, given the way people threw themselves at him. He would have to find a way to get to Draco. The man would be living with Harry for the rest of their lives, he had the perfect opportunity to make him happy, like Blaise could not.

When Harry got home that night he could feel the wards that were surrounding his room, before he even got close. He found himself smiling at the fact that Draco apparently wanted to know when he returned. With a wave of his hand he dismantled the alarm and entered his room. He thought about the blond as he got ready for bed. He was confused as to his reasons for trying not to get too close to him. It probably wouldn’t hurt to at least try to be friends with him. They would have to find some way to live together. He ignored his persistent erection in favor of much needed sleep. He hadn’t slept with anyone since before he had killed Tom. He hadn’t even tried, truth be told. He had bottomed a few times in the past, but it really wasn’t his thing. He mostly found it to be uncomfortable and painful. He had also slept with women from time to time, but he found it unsatisfying. He frequently thought about propositioning, Blaise, but he knew that the other man needed more than he could give him. He had, some time ago, resigned himself to a solo sex life.

Lying down on the soft bed, he let his thoughts drift to his missing friends. Nothing had caused him more pain than when Ron had died. The redhead had taken an attack that had been meant for him. He still wished that he could have been the one to die. Hermione stuck with him even through her own grief, until he had finally killed the beast. After that she went back to the muggle world to distance herself from the memories of Ron. He had honestly thought it would be over after that, but they had all failed to take into consideration, that the death eaters would not find Azkaban to be a pleasant post war retreat. When finally it was suggested that he use the ancient truce bond, he had jumped at the chance. If he was honest with himself, he wanted peace at all costs. If it was too unbearable he was more than willing to off himself. The ceremony would still ensure peace. It was a pleasant surprise that the Malfoys seemed open to a truce, or perhaps something even better.

He was exhausted, and it was with little difficulty that he let himself fall into sleep. It was, however, outside his control to stop the dreams.
