CHAPTER 3
“What do you know about the Fae, Draco?” Sirius asked him. He was dressed in black slacks and a white shirt now and had settled on a chair facing Draco. Draco raised one golden eyebrow. He probably knew more about the Fae then any other being alive. His mother had given him a diary the diary of Gayle. Gayle had been the Air Fae who had married into the Black family.
“I know that there are four types of Fae, Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Each at one time controlled and monitored their elements on earth. Each has its own rulers, but all of them are governed by an Archangel . At one time Humans and the Fae coexisted, but the first wizards brought war and famine to the world. The Fae decided that they didn’t want to get involved in the muck that mortals where making of the earth, they withdrew into the very elements they controlled and have not been seen since.” Draco stated, Sirius nodded a light of approval in his eyes.
“I see you have studied your history. I presume you read Gayle’s diary then?” Sirius asked. At Draco’s start of surprise Sirius nodded and with a slightly mocking smile said, “You never wondered why your mother had such a valuable book in her possession? That book has been passed down in the Black family for centuries. It has been a tradition to give it to the daughters. I never had any sisters so my mother gave it to hers to give to her own daughters. I did make a point of reading it however”
At Draco’s inquiring nod Sirius continued, “From reading it you’ll know that the Fae come in all shapes and sizes, the most well known, Air Fae, is the Fairy. Little winged human like beings with many powers. One of which is to take on a human size and form. Now the attributes of the Fae, when in Human form, changes of course. Gayle’s hair while in her Natural Fae state is the color of sunlight when a human it is nearly a very pretty White Blonde. Gayle as you know was a Fae Princess daughter of the great Paralda king of the Air Fae.” Draco knew all this why was Sirius telling him what he already knew?
“When she came upon a young wizard one day and his beauty caused her to fall in love with him. But her union with a mortal did not please the Fae council and they stripped her of her title and her wings. She could never return to the Fae world. However she was never truly happy in this one either. She rightly saw herself as above Mortal kind. She tolerated Wizards because her husband was a powerful one but none magical humans were to be detested.” Now he knew, this was the start of the prejudice between Pure blood wizards and Muggels and anyone they saw as mixed or mudded. Sirius could see the dawning of understanding in his young cousins eyes so he continued.
“The Black family became the most powerful among wizards because the children born of Gayle where not only Wizard but half Fae, they where as gods on earth. But as time wore on and centuries passed the bloodline became thinner and thinner. Your mother was part Fae, just as I was but she had little or no Fae powers that could be seen. I, on the other hand seemed to have inherited much of it. Why that happened the way it did is a mystery,” Sirius said.
Snape nodded and stared speculatively at Draco. “That’s why it shocked your mother you see, when you started showing such powerful Fae Magic.” He said in a dry tone. Sirius nodded in agreement.
“You were, at the age of a year old, twice as powerful as she or even I ever was. It was twice as puzzling because it wasn’t Air Fae magic you where exhibiting. It was Fae magic, it couldn’t be anything else.” Black said. And he knew, Draco could tell. Sirius knew exactly what Draco was!
“You know what I am. What’s happening to me, don’t you?” He demanded of his enemy. Sirius tossed him an impertinent glance.
“You Slytherin’s aren’t much on patience are you?” Sirius pointed out tersely.
Snape snorted and replied with a sneer. “And you Griffendor’s sure never taught us any.”
Draco waved his hand to silence their growing banter and glared at Black. He was going to finally have some answers if it killed him. He didn’t have time for them to snip at each other. Sirius shot Snape a reproachful glance and turned back to the agitated blonde. “Your birth mark, is it a flame with what appears to be a lance running through it.”
Draco thought about the mark that had been so much apart of him his entire life, he knew at a young age Snape had put a disillusion charm on it, to hide it from his father. But when he had turned sixteen the Mark had seemed to burn like a flame and the charm had broken. He had never been able to charm it into hiding again. He nodded.
“Then it’s as I thought. Let me tell you a story or better yet let me show you a story.”
Before Draco could ask Sirius how one could be shown a story, Sirius’s black eyes had flashed an electric blue and the room around them seemed to fuzz and blur. Draco felt a tingling sensation in his body and when he blinked his little rented dingy flat was gone replaced by a wood. There were towering trees everywhere, trees with trunks as thick as a house, trees that seemed to span taller then mountains.
The thickest and tallest tree stood just in front of him. Draco stared in amazement. The branches of the tree had grown into the twisted yet elegant shape of a castle. Each branch and twig had grown into a position to form the towering structure. Then he noticed the people. Not people, Fae, for these beings were beautiful beyond what any mortal could achieve. Their bodies where humanistic enough but their features where alien. There skin was bronze like earth their hair dark as a Ravens wing and their eyes… Draco had seen eyes that green on only one other person.
Their clothing seemed to be made of plants, no as if plants grew from their skin to form their clothing. The flowers covering the nearest Fae woman’s breasts were just beginning to bud. Draco felt the blurring dizzying sensation again and suddenly he was inside a room, the walls where made of intertwining branches. He must be in the tree palace, this room was full of bright light no torches hung on the walls. The light came from a swarm of darting beings in the air above them. The very air seemed to faintly grow with the dust from their beating wings. In the middle of the room the biggest lily blossom Draco had ever seen grew from the floor. Its petals could have easily held Draco’s weight. Lounging on one of the lily’s Giant petals was the most beautiful woman Draco had ever seen. Her skin was ebony rich like the earth she ruled. Her hair darker then night, so that Draco felt if he tried he might see stars.
And those eyes, the deep startling unearthly green. Draco had always been unable to look away from those eyes, he recognized those eyes. White flowers that he couldn’t name where growing from her skin to form a long elegant gown. She wore a crown of yellow blossoms on her head. Draco knew he was looking at the Earth Fae Queen. Their was a roaring sound, a blazing ember appeared just above the queen. She flinched as the fire consumed any plant near it in its blazing fury. And from the ball of fire a woman stepped and the flame cooled.
Once again he was struck with the unearthly beauty of this woman. Where the Earth Faes skin was the color of earth, hers was the color of flame. She was all fire her hair seemed to be made of it, with molten streaks of sunlight running through it. Her hair was fire, her clothing seemed to flow like lava. She wore a crown of rubies on her head her molten hair fanning around her. Queen of the Fire Fae.
“Ember, how dare you invade my personal chambers killing living beings. Has the Fae of Fire become so willing for a war of the elements?” The Fae queen spoke, her voice was husky earthy it sent thrills of sensation through Draco’s mortal body. When the Fire Fae spoke it seemed to light a fire in his blood that raged straight to his groin. Draco didn’t even like women, but these women were magic.
“Cease Gea! I could not control my fury. I meant no insult to your house.” Ember apologized. Gea cocked one slender black eyebrow in inquiry.
“And what has incited your rage, Ember, Queen of Fire”
“ Dijnn, My husband has come to me for penance.”
“And what was his crime?”
“Infidelity, a crime you know well Gea.”
The two women stared at each other, one of them blazing in her anger. The other just as angry, appearing calm and put together. A light of cunning was in her eyes, a loud hiss came from behind him. He whirled around as a giant snake entered the room. The snake was mammoth large his head alone bigger then Draco. Its body’s length was immeasurable. Ember nodded in accent to the snake.
“No offense to your mistress meant, Eniri.”
The snake hissed something, that only Gea seemed to understand. She sent a mocking glance to the Fire Queen. “Eniri reminds you that no evidence was ever found of my ever being unfaithful to my exalted husband.”
Ember nodded in ascent but her eyes blazed a sheer red as she said. “Yes evidence has a way of dying when it concerns you. It appears my husband is not as cunning as you, Gea. He has admitted his infidelity and told me plainly a child has resulted of it.”
This Gea brushed aside this notion without concern. “Why should you care, his penance is now yours to decide. You can always ban the woman and child from your court. You know this, why do you come here for my council?”
“Because it is not enough! I can not ban them from my court because they where never mine to control! It is a mortal woman he has lain with! A Halfling walks this earth with our powers and our kinship to Dragons. He has named the wretch Draggen. And given him the Nobel title of Dragon Seeker and Lord of The Fire Fae. I come for your council because I am no fool, I know that you have spread your own Halflings through out this realm and given them title of Nagi! You think I do not notice the humans with green eyes and kinship to snakes! You owe me favor for saving your kin, I ask for it now. Tell me how to get my vengeance,” Embers anger seemed to light her from within, she wasn’t covered in flames she was flame.
Gea stared at her as if she would like nothing better then to smite her where the other Queen stood. She sighed in accord. “You will need the water Faes help. For your husbands penance lock him beneath the waves to suffer in torment. As for Draggen, place a curse upon his birth that he and his seed will bear for all time. Dragons lust and Dragons Fire will mar their lives. His name will become his curse, as he grows older he will become one with the dragon.”
Ember let out a cackle of triumph, “It’s perfect Draggen’s line will end with him! His life will be a torment! The Line of Dragon Seeker will wish it hade never been begat.”
As Ember’s laugh swirled around them, Draco felt a wrenching sensation and the dizziness overcame him. He was sitting in his chair back in his flat, his body covered in a sheen of sweat. Sirius appeared wan and he swayed in his seat, Snape’s arms shot out to grasp the younger man, who’s head rested tiredly on his shoulder.
“What the hell is wrong with you Black! If it was going to cost you that much energy why couldn’t you just tell us. Why do you always have to be a show off!” Snape demanded of him. Behind the sneer Draco could see his old mentor feared for his cousin. Sirius smiled wanly, nuzzling tiredly into Snape’s chest.
“It’s good to know you care Master.” Draco didn’t know when Sirius had become subservient to Snape but that wasn’t the thing for most on his mind. “Ember was wrong Draggen did have children, their where more Dragon Seekers. I am Dragon Seeker.”
It seemed to take a lot of Sirius’ energy to nod but he managed it. “Yes, she didn’t figure that other Fae had mated with mortals. Fire is part of the Dragons mating ceremony, so it stood to reason, Draggen would bake any mortal he tried to mate with. But their where other Halflings with Fae blood strong enough to combat the fire. He had children and the line went on for a time. It died out a century ago.”
Sirius shudder his pale face breaking out in a sweat, “Or so we thought, you are the Last Dragon Seeker, Draco and The Last Lord of the Fae.” With that admission, Sirius sank into unconsciousness. Snape cursed and cradled the younger mans long frame closer to him. While the name Dragon Seeker whispered and echoed in Draco’s mind.
