Chapter 3: A Strange Talk

            Helga was
surprised to see her friend waiting on her when the feast ended. However, the
look that she gave her told her that she didn’t like the idea that she was
there.

   “What are you-?”

   “Let’s talk
somewhere were theirs no students,” she said.

Helga nodded and her friend took her to a small room.

   “What are you doing
here?” she asked.

   “Trying to save my
parents,” Helga said. “My parents died at the hands of Voldemort and I’m not
going to let that happen again.”

   “Helga, don’t you
know what happens when wizards mettle with time?”

Helga had heard this before, from her stepmother, but she
wasn’t going to let her friend know that.

   “Look, I’m your
half-sister and friend,” she said. “Please, let me help you.”

Helga sighed.

   “Emily, I don’t
think that anyone can help me,” she said.

Emily looked at her.

   “Then I guess I’ll
have to help you,” she said. “Though, I don’t have to like it.”

Helga knew that Emily would come through.

            When Helga
left her sister and friend, she still had her words ringing in her ears. True,
she knew that what she was doing was against the law, but she didn’t care. She
wanted her parents back and she wanted them back now. When she reached
Gryffindor tower she found that it was locked, which meant that everyone had
gone to bed.

   “Oh great,” Helga
muttered.

Twenty minutes later Emily showed up.

   “I got the hat to
put me in Gryffindor as well,” Emily said. “And the password is Fortuna Major.”

The painting swung forward to let them in.

   “Let’s get some
sleep,” Emily said.

            The next
morning both Helga and Emily hurried down to the Great Hall. Emily was a fourth
year and Helga knew that her father expected for her to get ready for the
O.W.Ls that were going to take place next term. However, when they arrived
Helga saw that Dumbledore was waiting on her and that’s when she figured that
he might take her to Diagon Alley to get her things.

   “I’ll see you
later,” Emily said.

Helga smiled at Emily and then joined the Headmaster.

   “I thought that you
might want to get your things,” Dumbledore said. “As you
probably don’t have any.”

   “Thanks, sir,”
Helga said.

            Ten minutes
later they were both in Diagon Alley. Dumbledore took her to Madam Malkin and
got her robes and then they went next door to get her ink, quill, and
parchment. While they were in Flourish and Blotts getting her school books
Helga asked him a little about her parents.

   “Well your father
was very smart and your mother, well, she is smart,” he said. “So I imagine
that you’ll do just as well as they did.”

   “I hope so,” Amanda
said. “My sister, Emily, thinks that I might outdo them, but I don’t know.”

Dumbledore became thoughtful.

   “I thought you said
that you were the only child.”

   “I am, but my mum
was with my godfather and she gave birth to Emily,” Helga said. “I only
discovered it when I was six and wondered why Emily was staying around all the
time.”

            Dumbledore
continued to think about what she had said as they wrapped up their shopping.
On the way back to Hogwarts Helga told him all about Emily and about the kind
of stress that she was under to do well on her O.W.L’S.

   “Do you think my
godfather is being harsh?”

   “I don’t really
know the answer to that,” Dumbledore said. “I’m sure that her father has his
reasons.”

   “Maybe,” she said
slowly. “But I don’t really know.”

   “I’m sure you’ll
figure it out.”

Helga sighed.

   “I hope so,” Helga
said. “I really do.”

A/N: I know this doesn’t sound like a Remus/Hermione story,
but it will be.
