Chapter 3 (Lucius’ POV)
How come he trusts me? I have done nothing that could give him a reason to trust me. Yet he did. Asking me to get Albus.
When we got back, the boy was holding Severus’ hand, sobbing silently. The Potion Master was lying still, not moving at all. His breathing so flat that we truly doubted if he was still breathing. His face as pale as death, although that was nothing new…
How Albus and Poppy did it, I don’t know, but they did. Severus’ condition is stable. He’s lying in the hospital wing. Potter staying at his side. Never once leaving it. Sleeping beside him. Missing classes for him.
I turn away, leaving the two of them in peace. But his voice stops me.
“Lucius…”
So soft, so vulnerable, so breakable.
“Thank you… For bringing him home.”
I nod. Not able to say something. This silence is not to be broken…
Classes are still busy. I walk through the hallways. Where am I going to? I can’t go back. Everything that links me to the Death Eaters I have left behind. Severus was right. I’ve known that for awhile, but I never had enough courage to leave it all.
“Lucius…”
I turn, facing the Headmaster. Nodding my head in a greeting. I don’t trust my voice to speak yet…
“There is a chamber made ready for you, next to Severus’ rooms. I’ll bring you to there.”
Clearly the surprise was visible on my face.
“It’s alright. Should I inform your son…?”
“Not yet, I’d like to rest for a while…”
My voice is still nothing more than a soft whisper.
A knock on the door wakes me up. I can’t believe I fell asleep.
Hesitantly I open the door. Harry is standing before me. A small smile on his face.
“He just woke up. Would you like to talk to him…?”
Does he mean this? Why would he trust me with him?
Clearly you see the questions in my eyes.
“Because you brought him back, and because he trusts you… I don’t need anything more…”
When we enter you turn your head. I can see the pain in your eyes. But you smile. I never thought I’d see you smile again…
I set myself in the chair next to you.
“Hey, how are you doing?” My voice incredibly soft and gentle. One would say we were old lovers…
You simply nod. And it’s enough for me to see that you’re, seeing the circumstances, doing quite well…
The two of us, Harry and me, stay at your side for a couple of hours more, before Poppy kicks me out.
Before I leave the room, you call me back.
“Luc… Don’t forget to warn Draco…”
I smile. Knowing what you mean.
A small nod. “I know, I won’t forget…”
I take a last look at you. Harry and you… You’re fingers intertwined. You two belong together. It’s as if you’ve found your home Sev. Now I still need to find mine…
