All of a sudden

Hermione stood staring at the open door after Ron had left. She was so pissed off at Ron. She was not new to Ron’s pounding at her door. Ron usually pounded off the door of the room in the Burrow which she shared with Ginny and her room at the Grimmauld’s place. He thought it was his right as a friend to pound on her door. But today was just too much. Who did he think he was to come and break into her room like that?

She had been studying really hard last night. She had completed making her study timetable and she was determined to finish off reading the ‘advanced transfiguration’ text book but she had fallen asleep after finishing only half way through. And worse than that, she had really wanted to sleep today and that blasted Ron just had to come and spoil it for her. Of course even Hermione needed to sleep late at times. It was not that she was the perfect girl ever. Even she had her flaws. And she couldn’t afford to have people blast open her door every time they thought she was not ok.

After casting a reparo spell towards the door and a quick cleansing spell, she decided to go and take a shower and then head off to the library in order to finish reading the book. It wouldn’t do for her to be in her room. Someone or other would come to annoy her. It was good that today was a Saturday so there would be less people in the library. She could read at peace.

After finishing her shower, she summoned a house elf and ordered a light breakfast consisting of a few sandwiches and a cup of tea. She also had to eat less if she wanted to finish the reading. She couldn’t afford to fall asleep in the library as well. She HAD to keep up with her timetable.

Hermione rushed off to the library with her heavy school bag which hung over her shoulders. On the way in the corridor, she saw Draco coming along with Crabbe and Goyle towards her direction. Crabbe was snickering and whistling while Goyle looked grumpy and red. Suddenly Draco came to a halt in front of her blocking her path. He stood with his arms crossed and had a malicious smirk etched upon his face. Hermione rolled her eyes in exasperation and made to pass them when she was suddenly grabbed by her arm and was flung against the wall. Hermione gasped as her head hit the wall and shook her head to stop the ringing in her ears.

“Let go of me Malfoy!” she hissed and tried to push him off from her.
“What if I don’t Mudblood?” He replied tightening his grip on her shoulders making her wince. Hermione glared at him darkly before attempting to push him off once again.

“Listen here Granger.” Draco continued. “Do you think that hiding with potter during your holidays would save you from anything?” He said as he smirked. His eyes glowed dangerously. “Face it like the idiot Gryffindor mudblood that you are instead of hiding like a fool.”

“What the hell are you talking about? Where I stay during my holidays is none of your business Malfoy! Now let go of me now or you will pay for it” Hermione said through her gritted teeth. She was so angry that her cheeks turned red.

“Stop pretending that you don’t know anything Mudblood! Do you know why your kind makes me sick? You all always pretend that you don’t know anything.” He said icily and let go of her now and simply glared at her. “You can hide all you want Granger but you can’t hide forever. If I were you I would rather die than going into hiding for every thing.” He said.

Hermione blanched. What the hell was he talking about? Why on earth would she want to go into hiding? As far as she knew there was no such threat that would cause anyone to go hiding. Now that he no longer held her, she quickly got her wand out from her robe pocket and shoved it at Draco’s throat taking him by surprise. “Don’t you dare threaten me Malfoy!” She hissed. “I have already gone through hell this morning and I don’t want anymore from you. And if you ever touch me again, I will make sure that I hex your hands into a broomstick. At least then, you will be able to fly better. Oh. And fifty points from Slytherin and a detention with Filch for threatening the Head girl.” She finished with a gleeful smirk but she froze when she heard a cold voice behind her.

Hermione let go of Draco who stumbled backward clutching his throat. His neck had a small red mark in the place where Hermione had pressed the wand. Swirling behind, she came face to face with a very angry potions master who was now glaring blackly at her.

“Trying to duel are we Miss Granger?” Professor Snape said with his trademark smirk etched upon his face.

“Professor Snape” Hermione stated and glared at Draco and turned back to look at the Professor.

“I know very well who I am you silly girl. Twenty points from Gryffindor for your impertinence and for trying to hex a student within school boundary.” He growled before staring at Draco who was snickering. Hermione looked at him horrified.

“But Professor…” She started when he broke in. “Twenty more points from Gryffindor for talking back. I suggest you should stop your blabbering immediately before you earn a detention Miss Granger” He said silkily, malice dripping from his words.

“But professor that’s unfair! He was the one who tried to attack me!” Hermione said a bit louder than she should have and pointed her wand towards Draco.

Snape looked hard at her and Hermione looked straight back at him and even had the audacity to glare. Her cheeks were glowing red and her breathing was becoming heavy. Snape was impressed at the girl’s courage. Her ‘Head girl’ position had definitely gone to her head. “Detention Miss Granger. Tonight at 8pm.” He started after staring at her for a moment. “And ten more points from Gryffindor for lying.” He said his eyes narrowing. He then turned towards Draco and smirked at him as he slid past them.

Hermione now stood gaping at the professor who was now walking away from them down the corridor. The greasy git. She had been literally back fired with the same punishment she had given Draco, although by different means. Damn. She could swear that Snape had winked at Draco as he had passed through. He had purposely taken off points from her to cover up for the one's Draco lost. She suspected that he must have been in the scene right from the beginning.

“Close your mouth mudblood. Or do you want to have something worthy to fill it with?” he asked as his two useless sidekicks burst into laughter. Hermione’s rage reached its peak as he added to her boiling temper. She lashed out at him and punched him in his jaw with full might and watched him stumble. “Shut up Malfoy! I have better work to do than listening to you.” She said and hastily lifted her bag which had fallen to the floor at some point and headed towards the library. She still had that book to read.

A/N: Hermione is definitely going through a lot today. poor girl. And Snape is a mean piece of work. lol. Why would Draco think she was in hiding? wierd. please review.

Kelly: I hope this chapter is long enough. I had to give an all round description in the last chapter just so that some people dont end up thinking that Hermione is suffering from a trauma. Her reaction when her door was blasted was strange. Thanks for the review.:)
