The Lost Cub

Elena and Ginny heard the screams and knew they were in trouble. It was then Elena felt Sirius tug on the hem of her shirt and looked down at him. He motioned with his head and she saw he was motioning at Draco Malfoy and Blaise Zabini. Everyone knew the Deatheaters were after their families and she knew they didn’t stand a chance here. It was then she lightly nudged Ginny and showed her what she saw. Ginny grabbed her hand and slowly the two made their way over to their schoolmates. This was not a time to worry about house rivalries as all four were on the same side.

They made it over to the two boys and then slowly tried to go to the back of the store to get out the back door with Sirius following behind.

“I don’t think so young Malfoy. Oh and look you have young Zabini and the youngest Weasley with you. Looks like three targets are all together in one place.” Draco recognized his cousin Bella’s voice and wondered when she had gotten out of Azkaban. He stopped wondering when he saw the green light going toward the four teens. Thinking fast he transformed back and threw up the strongest shield he knew. He was not going to let anything happen to his goddaughter.

“Well cousin, it seems you have gotten a little rusty with your time in Azkaban, but I am curious, how did you ever escape? Did you have a little help from the outside perhaps?” Sirius looked at all the shocked faces and was surprised when he felt a small hand on his elbow and looked into the blue eyes of his goddaughter as she whispered something to him.

Turning he accioed the masks and everyone gasped to see a silver handed Peter Pettigrew.

“So Peter finally decided to show yourself? Now do you care to explain how you killed those muggles and how you betrayed Lily and James?” He could see by the looks on everyone’s faces that they were putting the pieces together.

“You did all that Sirius, I tried to stop you, but you turned on me and got our best friends killed.” No one expected Sirius to pull up his left sleeve.

“No dark mark. Can you say the same?” The answer came as a killing curse sent by Peter right at Sirius. However it didn’t make it as the Aurors arrived just on time to see Sirius’s little display and threw up shields around him and the teens.

Seeing the aurors the Deatheaters apparated away. Sirius was about to run when his cousin Nymphadora Tonks, or just Tonks stopped him.

“You don’t have to run Sirius, we all saw Pettigrew and that you don’t have the mark. Someone has already gone to tell Fudge, and returned, that was quick.” She said to the man who had gone to Fudge and returned with a set of papers. “Here they have your name on them.” She told her cousin handing them over.

Sirius was surprised she had said and done all this with out tripping, but had to laugh when she dropped the papers. He opened them and read them before handing them to Elena who read them with Ginny reading over her shoulder.

They both looked at him with tears in their eyes and said two words, “Your Free.” Every one in the shop started clapping and Sirius just hugged the two girls. He was finally free and could be a godfather to Elena.

Severus and Remus had just entered the apothecary to get refills for some of the potions supplies at the school when the attack happened. Instantly the two ran into the street to look for their daughter. Molly ran right up to them with Fred, George, Ron, and Hermione following behind.

“Have you seen the girls at all since we let them off on their own?” Asked a panicked Molly.

“No.” Remus was just as panicked.

“Sirius was with them, come on we have to find them.” Severus was worried, but hid it well, until his best friend and the man’s wife showed up.

“Severus, Draco and Blaise went off on their own and we don’t know where they are.” Exclaimed a panicked Lucius, suddenly forgetting how a Malfoy would act now that his son might be in danger.

Severus didn’t think he could handle much more of this. His child, beloved godson, his child’s friend, and his godson’s best friend were all missing in the middle of an attack. Suddenly nothing else mattered to him but finding the children.

That is until they saw a group of deatheaters enter the alley. “Stop as many as you can, but keep an eye out for the children.” Then turning to Lucius and Narcissa he said, “Ginny Weasley and Remus’s and my daughter are both missing. I will explain everything later.” He said at the two looks of confusion.

Before long the Aurors showed up and the Deatheaters fled, giving time for the panicked parents to look for their children. They were surprised when they saw all the animals in the streets, until they saw the ruined pet shop and realized all the animals must have gotten out. They were even more surprised when they heard cheering coming from the bookshop and decided to check it out.

There they all breathed a sigh of relief when they saw the missing children and Sirius. Until Remus’s brain caught up with him. “Sirius, what are you doing.” He said alerting all others to his presence.

Elena ran over to her dad and threw her arms around him, “they all saw Pettigrew. Sirius saved us and in the process everyone here saw Pettigrew. Dad, he’s free. They know he didn’t do it.”

Remus could only concentrate on one thing at that moment; his daughter had just called him dad. He hugged her tighter and then realized what she had said. “Your Free?”

“Yep, think Fudge thought it best since all these witnesses were here. Can’t really tell them they didn’t see what they saw.” Sirius said while looking at his friend.

“That would require a thought process, which I think Fudge severely lacks.” Said Severus as his husband released their daughter to hug Sirius. He was surprised when Elena hugged him instead and laughed at his joke.

“I didn’t know you knew how to joke father.” She whispered in his ear. He jerked back to look at her in shock. “Is it ok if I call you that?” She asked suddenly apprehensive.

“Always” He whispered as he hugged her again.

Draco decided to get a good look at the girl hugging his godfather and was surprised at what he saw. He saw how the girl looked live Sev and Remus; Remus had told him he could use his first name. He also saw that she was probably the prettiest girl he had ever seen. He then looked at his father and knew he had been caught checking her out. He also knew how Blaise felt every time he looked at the Weaslett, oh man he now had a crush.

Lucius looked at the girl he had just caught his son checking out and had to admit his son had good taste. The girl was beautiful and looked, as though she would become more beautiful with time. It was then he realized he was thinking this way about whom he thought was his best friend’s daughter. He was sure Sev would love that.

“Well I don’t think there will be anymore shopping today as they will need time to repair the shops. I think it would be best if we all left for the day.” Narcissa said. The others all nodded in agreement and Remus and Molly made plans for Ginny to visit Hogwarts so Elena would have company her own age. Severus also spoke briefly with Remus about how he had seen his godson checking out their daughter and the two decided it best to inform the Malfoys of the situation. They decided that Ginny would floo with them to Hogwarts and then they would go to the Malfoys to explain what was going on. All plans set the group headed from the shop.

They didn’t get far however when a little wolf puppy ran up to the group, well more specifically Elena. She bent down and gently picked up the animal and was surprised when it instantly started nuzzling into her robes.

“Be careful with that animal, he doesn’t like anyone.” The shop owner said as he went to collect the animal from the girl. For a puppy that creature sure was a lot of trouble.

Elena reluctantly handed the puppy over and only Draco saw that she didn’t want to do it. With the animal safely back in its cage the owner set off. It was then Draco made a quick decision and looked at his father. “I forgot something in the bookshop, Father.”

Lucius looked at his son, and knew instantly what he was doing. “Well we better go back after it.” He said to his son and steered his wife away from the group. “Will we see you tonight Sev?”

“Yes, we will be there after we get the girls settled in.” Severus told his friend, wondering what was going on. Draco was never forgetful.

That said the group of Slytherins set of back toward the bookshop. None of them heard Ron mutter, “Good Riddance.” Or saw the glares from two girls, one with red hair and one with black. Or the fact that the twins put their heads together and started plotting.

The other best kept secret of Hogwarts. The twins had a second silent partner besides Harry Potter, and his name was Draco Malfoy. And the twins were nothing if not loyal. They also knew who Elena really was as their mother had told them while she had told their father. They had also been sworn to secrecy and were forbidden to tell Ron or Percy. They knew all that was going to happen and promised to go along with it. Besides they liked how Elena got along with their sister. Ginny had come crying to them often enough about how it felt to not have friends and they were glad their baby sister was happy. Yep Elena had just become another baby sister and they knew Bill and Charlie would see things the same way.

Draco caught up with the man and told him he wanted to buy the puppy. He for once was glad to be a Malfoy as the man made no attempt to persuade him otherwise and sold the puppy for a pretty good price. Well it would have been considered cheap if the man actually knew what he had.

Draco knew that the puppy was actually a Shadow wolf and the gray in its coat would darken to black when it was about a year old leaving a black and white wolf. It could also change it’s coat to being all black in the shadows and all white it the snow officially blending in to it’s surroundings. The animal also was known to bond with one person and be extra protective of that person. He just knew this one would bond with Sev’s daughter; he really needed to learn her name.

“You like her don’t you?” Came the smug voice of his best friend.

“I assure you the Weaselett is safe from my affections.” Draco said hoping to throw his friend off.

“You know who I mean and it isn’t Ginny. It is that other girl, your godfathers daughter, not that I blame you she is rather pretty.” Blaise said while smirking at his friend.

“So what if I do like her, at least I don’t just stare at her, I will try to get her to go out with me.” He said while glaring at best friend.

“Good see if we can make it a double with you and her and me and Ginny.” Blaise said and laughed when his friend just glared harder at him.

Lucius and Narcissa just exchanged looks. They hoped Severus was ok with the prospect of their son dating his daughter, as they didn’t think Draco would stop pursuing the girl until she agreed to go out with him.

Severus and Remus, true to their word, were sitting in the Malfoy’s sitting room in Malfoy Manor after having left the two girls with Sirius. It had taken a lot to convince Elena that the Malfoys and Blaise (and his family) could be trusted with her secret, but Severus had convinced her.

So here they were waiting for the Malfoy’s reaction to the news.

Draco couldn’t believe it. The girl he was head over heels for was actually Potter, well not Potter anymore. He found that didn’t bother him until he realized she hated him and had for the past four years.

Blaise knew what his friend was thinking and knew Draco was upset because he didn’t think he stood a chance with Elena. Blaise thought otherwise. It was obvious to him that Potter had always been different than he acted. Maybe now that Elena could be herself she could also be with Draco.

“Why don’t you bring the girls over for dinner tonight so we can meet Elena. Maybe bring Sirius to as we still have to thank him for saving the children.” Narcissa said as a way to tell the two fathers that they accepted their daughter.

“Well it is actually Elena’s birthday and we were going to have a small celebration at Hogwarts. She doesn’t know about it and I think she even forgot today was her birthday.” Remus said. He had been surprised that her birthday had never changed; it had always been July 31st. “Why don’t you come, the Weasleys, Albus, Minerva, and Poppy are going to be there also.”

“Well if you are sure we wouldn’t be imposing on anything.” Narcissa said, excited to meet the girl.

“We’re sure.” Severus said, glad his friends would be there also.

“I have a question.” Draco said suddenly. “Is she turning 15 or 14 today, as she is going to be a fourth year.”

“She is turning 15 and we are just going to say we didn’t want her to start Hogwarts and have to worry about OWLs in the same year so we held her back a year.” Remus said.

The others nodded, as it was a good plan. They then headed up the stairs to change and Remus told the boys to grab swimsuits as they may swim in the lake if they liked.

Draco and Blaise ended up being glad they grabbed the swimsuits as when they arrived at Hogwarts they saw the Weasleys were already there and were swimming with Sirius. They noticed how the twins and the two younger girls were having a water fight, and “Accidentally” splashing Hermione who was on the dock reading. They also noticed how a couple of times it looked like Ron had been pulled under and then one of the two oldest would appear a little ways away. A couple of time Percy even got splashed. All in all it looked like Bill, Charlie, the twins, Ginny, Sirius, and Elena were having fun picking on Percy, Hermione, and Ron.

Lucius saw what had taken his son’s and Blaise’s attention and had a hard time trying to hold back a laugh when he saw Hermione get splashed by Elena and Ginny. The two girls were quick to apologize, but then the twins splashed her. He almost lost it when he heard his wife let out a small giggle.

Remus was laughing and the smirk on Severus’s face was the closest he had ever gotten to a smile. Just then Molly and Arthur Weasley joined the group.

“Remus, Severus, good to see you are back. And you brought the Malfoys.” Arthur said. He wasn’t sure how he felt about Lucius being here, but he would be civil at least.

“Oh, honestly Arthur” Molly said. Her opinion of the Malfoys rose today when she saw them panicked over not being able to find their son. “Why don’t you boys go change and join the others in the lake. I am sure they will try to splash you, but just splash back.”

The two boys nodded and headed off to change eager to get into the water on the hot afternoon. Draco handed the present he had brought along to his mother and was off.

The twins were the first to see the two Slytherins coming and decided to try to warn the others. Fred got to Ginny and Elena first, so George told Bill, Charlie, and Sirius.

“Don’t splash the two newcomers. One is another silent partner in the joke shop.” They told them and the other nodded their heads in agreement.

Draco and Blaise immediately jumped into the water and swam toward the group. They almost stopped when they saw what the girls were wearing. Ginny had on a white and pink bikini and Elena a green and silver one. Both had their hair pulled back with some pieces falling out around their faces. Draco couldn’t wait to see the reaction of Sev and Remus to what their daughter was wearing. It was obvious that Ginny had helped pick it out.

When they reached the group Fred held out his hand. “The object of this is to get Hermione, Ron, and Percy as wet as possible while making it look like an accident. That way we don’t get in too much trouble from Mum.”

“And incase you don’t know us this is Bill, Sirius, Charlie, Forge, Ginny, and Elena, and I am Gred.” Fred said as he pointed to the others and they all shook hands with the Slytherins.

“Draco, and I’m Blaise.” Blaise said, playing along.

With that they set off for another hour of splashing the three targets.

They all got out of the water when Molly said dinner was ready. They were almost to where the towels were when Severus saw what his daughter was wearing. Luckily it was Molly who noticed his expression and saved his daughter a lot of embarrassment. “Severus that is the type of swimsuit girls wear. Don’t worry, Sirius, Charlie, and Bill are performing Drying spells on all the children and see they are putting clothes on over them now.”

Sure enough his daughter was putting on a pair of jean shorts and a pink tank top. That made him feel a little better, until he heard Narcissa laughing at his reaction.

“I am glad you are the one with the daughter and not me.” Lucius said.

“I am still not used to it and my daughter has been wearing those for years.” Arthur said causing every one to laugh.

At dinner Draco made it so Ginny sat on one side of Elena with Blaise next to Ginny and he sat on the other side of Elena. The two boys used this seating arrangement to their advantage and talked with both the girls. Draco found that Elena was easy to talk to, and had a great sense of humor, that and he was falling even harder for her. He could see his friend was having the same problem with Ginny. He also saw the glares they were both getting from the Weasley brothers and Remus, Sirius, and Severus. He knew that was their warning never to harm the two girls, and that Blaise got the warning loud and clear.

Elena didn’t catch on to the fact that this was a birthday party until it was time to open presents. When she did catch on she was surprised, as she had never had a party before. She had also gotten a lot of nice things from her friends and family. One of her favorites was a ring with a combination of the Snape and Lupin family crests. She was told that was her familiy crest and that each of her fathers had one, also that it was a portkey to their cottage that hardly anyone knew about as they only used it if there was danger, it also had a few protection charms on it.

She thought she was done when Draco pulled out the one he had brought. She had been surprised when the package started whining and almost jumped out of her seat when she saw the wolf cub from the ally earlier that day. She was so thrilled that she gave him a little kiss on the cheek and blushed when she realized what she had just done. He covered nicely for her though by telling her what was so special about the cub, no one was surprised when the cub instantly bonded to her.

“So what are you going to name him?” Ginny asked petting the cub’s head.

“I don’t know, Shadow seems too original. I’ll think of something though.”

The rest of the night was spent enjoying each other’s company and every one laughed at how the wolf cub would growl whenever Ron, Hermione, or Percy would come near Elena or Ginny. It was obvious the two girls were his favorite humans. At the end of the night Draco asked Severus and Remus if it was ok for him to contact their daughter, while Blaise asked the same of the Weasleys. Both sets of parents were surprised at how proper the two boys had done this and agreed readily. The boys then asked the two girls if it was ok and were happy when they agreed. All in all it turned out to be a pretty good day.

The question I have for reviewers is what should the wolf cub’s name be. I am open for any suggestions.
