Getting Acquainted
Disclaimer: Obviously I don’t own Harry Potter or any of Rowling’s other fabulous characters. Only the plot and Lena belong to me.
Snape grabbed Harry’s upper arm and began dragging him up to the large ornate wrought iron gates. Harry struggled at first but soon realized that it was no use.
‘Why is he taking me here? What did he mean when he said I’d be safer with him? How could I possibly be safe here?’ All of these thoughts raced through Harry’s mind, one after the other, all coming and going so quickly that they began to bleed together into a sort of hysteria.
They soon reached the entrance to the gate. A large stone gargoyle jumped in front of them, rearing its head and baring its teeth menacingly. Harry instinctively jumped behind Snape, not really believing that Snape would protect him if it actually came down to it.
Snape took out his wand and did a complicated wave while muttering a spell underneath his breath. The gargoyle immediately ceased its threat and returned to its place beside the gate. They proceeded up the long driveway to the superlative manor.
Malfoy Manor was breathtaking. You couldn’t even call it a house; it was more like a modern day castle. It was a palace fit for only the most luxuriant and affluent family. So naturally the Malfoys resided within its majestic walls.
When the two wizards finally reached the manor’s imposing double doors, they were both out of breath from the long walk. After a short rest Snape knocked on the doors which promptly opened and steered Harry inside. They were greeted by a tiny house-elf that didn’t even come up to Harry’s waist.
“Good evening, sirs.” The house-elf squeaked. “Master Malfoy has been expecting you both for some time now. If you could please follow me…” The house-elf led them through the vast foyer. It was completely made of marble and had a pair of sweeping marble and wrought-iron staircases leading up to a galleried landing with a balcony looking back down upon them. Walking pass the staircase, Harry saw that the reception area was triple height and led to a crystal skylight. To the left a massive bar and lounge and to the right was the dining room.
The house-elf guided them past it all and through the grand hallway until reaching another large set of double doors. “Master Malfoy awaits your arrival.” Snape waited for the elf to leave them when he opened the doors.
Lena sighed deeply. She knew it was stupid to be angry at her brother for no reason, but she just couldn’t help it. They were spending too much time together and the little things began to really bother her.
She was lying on the couch in the library trying to read and keep her mind off everything. So far it wasn’t working. Lena threw the book aside. ‘Why doesn’t Father let us have friends over any more? Why is he keeping us locked up in this house? Why didn’t he just die in Azkaban and leave us in peace?’ Lena sighed again and sat up when she heard the door open.
She found herself looking at the same house-elf that would later escort Harry and Snape. “Miss, your father requests your presence in his study.”
“Alright, thank you Muffy.” Lena stood up and headed for her father’s study. ‘What could Father want with me now?’ She paused at the door, readied herself for the worst, and opened the door.
Her father sat behind the desk and Draco in one of the chairs in front of it. No one said anything to her. Indeed only her brother acknowledged her presence, meeting her questioning gaze with one of his own. Lena sat in the only remaining chair and waited. Lucius didn’t seem in any particular hurry but just sat anxiously looking out the window with his favorite companion by his side, Fire Whiskey.
Their silence was interrupted when the doors behind them opened up. Lena turned around and saw her father’s friend and Draco’s ex-teacher, Severus Snape, clutching a tall skinny boy by the arm. ‘Where have I seen him before?’ She noticed the look of shock and recognition on her brother’s face. Looking at the boy again, Lena saw the look being returned with something more. Was that hate she saw in those green eyes?
“Severus, my good mate, I’m so glad you made it!” The new arrival seemed to light a spark in Lucius and wake him from his drunken stupor. “It’s been ages!”
“Yes, it’s been a long time.” Snape agreed, a considerable amount more sober. “As you can see, I have the boy. I think it best that we get everything, and everyone, settled and then explain what the arrangements are.”
“Yes, yes…Draco and Lena will take you to the guest suite and help you get him situated.” Lucius gave the two a look that said if they didn’t comply there’d be hell to pay.
“Of course, Father.” Draco replied, standing up. “We’ll be happy to help Prof. Snape.”
Snape laughed. “Remember Draco, I’m no longer a professor at Hogwarts. You’re no longer a student for that matter either.”
Draco laughed as well, his eyes not quite meeting with his smile, “How could I forget?” Lena stood as well and followed them out of the study, leaving her father to his liquor. It was then that she realized who the boy was. It was none other than Harry Potter.
Sorceress14- Thank you for reviewing again. It gave me an extreme boost of confidence to read all that you wrote. I feel honored having you for a reader.
*AUTHORS NOTE*
I have a definite image in my mind of what Malfoy Manor looks like. The links below are to pictures of Updown Court, the biggest mansion in the world. This is what I’m basing almost all my descriptions of the manor on.
