The Bond

The morning of the day the bond was to take place dawned bright and clear. Hogwarts was peaceful and most everyone was asleep, with the exception of two young boys. Harry and Draco both lay awake in their respective beds thinking about the event that was to take place that afternoon.

Harry rolled over onto his back, exhausted after only getting about an hour of sleep. His mind had been racing since he’d stepped out of Dumbledore’s office and he regretted not telling Ron and Hermione about what had happened when he’d had the chance at dinner. Instead he simple deflected the questions with a completely true, “I’m tired. Can we talk about this later?” His friends had obliged his request, but were obviously still curious about it.

Draco, too, had refrained from telling anyone, but for completely different reasons. His friends would do whatever he said, but if they found out about the bond they would wonder why he had agreed to it. The majority of his house had no idea that he was not a loyal follower of Voldemort. Only his closest friends knew where he really stood in the war. Blaise and Pansy were both secretly betraying their families, reporting any important information they overheard to Dumbledore. They weren’t going out of their way to spy, though. They were Slytherins after all. Draco didn’t even bother thinking about Vincent and Greg. They weren’t real friends. They were more like minions, blindly following a leader. They’ll make good Death Eaters one day, Draco mused. Inevitably, Draco’s thoughts turned back to Potter.

After convincing Ron that he was sic, which he wasn’t, and was going to stay in bed and rest for the day, Harry remained in his bed until nine, enjoying the rare opportunity to relax in the morning without being rushed to get to breakfast or to class. He took his time getting ready and arrived at Dumbledore’s office promptly at ten in the morning, just as the wizard had requested. He knocked lightly on the door and walked inside after hearing a muffled ‘come in’ from the other side of the door. As soon as the door closed behind him Molly. Weasley had jumped out of her seat to crush him in a hug.

“Oh, Harry, dear! I am so sorry about this! I wish there was something I could do.” Harry nodded, smiling at her open affection and pulling away just slightly so that he could get some air into his lungs. She pulled him by the arm and pushed Harry down into the empty seat next to her.

Harry finally got a chance to see who else was in the room. Dumbledore sat behind his desk, a book lay open in front of him, but he was paying no attention to it. Narcissa Malfoy and Snape were talking quietly, both seated in chairs across from the desk. Next to them was a chair that Harry presumed was for Malfoy and then Harry’s own seat. Beside him were Molly Weasley and her husband.

Arthur smiled at Harry, giving him a small wave. “Hello, Harry.” Harry smiled back, not saying anything.

A soft knock at the door gained everyone’s attention and Draco walked inside just minutes after Harry. He walked quickly inside and promptly sat down in the last free chair.

“It seems we are ready to begin,” Dumbledore said, speaking for the first time since Harry had entered the room. “Before we get started, though, I would like to make sure that there are no lingering questions about the bond.”

Harry spoke up almost immediately. “Well, I just want to make sure that I’ve got this right. You’re going to bond us and all that and then were going to be stronger and, you know, more protected and we’ll know if we’re okay and everything. All we have to do is be near each other every now and then and that’s it?”

“Not exactly, Harry,” Dumbledore replied. “You understood most of it, but apparently you are not clear on the part about being near to each other. For the first few months of the bond you will not be able to go more than three hours without being in the same room as each other.”

Draco looked up, seemingly confused. “Three hours? But what about at night?”

“Oh, yes. I almost forgot to mention that. We already have your rooms prepared. I will take you to them as soon as we are finished with the bonding.” Dumbledore’s tone was one reminiscent of the tone one would use to speak about the weather, but what he said was not lost on the two boys.

“I’m going to have to live with Malfoy?!” Harry exclaimed.

“Of course,” Snape said briskly, finally speaking up. “Now, if you have no more questions, may we get on with this thing? I do have a class to teach in an hour.” Draco glared at his godfather, but didn’t say anything.

“Of course, Severus. Would everyone please stand?” Reluctantly, everybody got to their feet. With a flick of his hand, Dumbledore got rid of all the chairs. “Harry, Draco, please step into the middle of the room and face each other.” The boys agreed, albeit not willingly. “Good, good, now take each other’s hands.”

A sigh was heard from Harry and Draco rolled his eyes, but they obeyed. Harry was temporarily distracted by the sudden attraction he felt towards Malfoy. Harry could not figure out why Malfoy was having an effect like that on him, so he decided to save the thoughts for a more appropriate time. Preoccupied with his thoughts, Harry missed Dumbledore’s next instructions, but he gathered that they didn’t pertain to him when Snape, Narcissa, Molly, and Arthur all stepped towards them. They placed a hand on one of their respective boy’s shoulders and Dumbledore nodded in approval.

“Alright, that’s good. You don’t need to do anything else while I perform the spell. When I am finished you will all recite ‘Amo Servo Fulcio’ and that will complete the bond.”

Before Harry could even think about what was happening, Dumbledore raised his wand and began to recite something in Latin that he couldn’t understand. A purple light shot out of Dumbledore’s wand and surrounded the two boys. The final three words were said. “Amo Servo Fulcio,” by the entire group and the light began to fade. Suddenly, felt himself become weak. He leaned forward, clutching onto Draco, who seemed to be feeling the same. He could hear people talking, but he couldn’t understand what they were saying. Their voices started to fade out and Harry couldn’t focus anymore. Then, finally, the world went black and he and Draco collapsed on the floor of Dumbledore’s office.

A/N: Thanks to everyone who reviewed. It means a lot. I love to write and I’m going to do it anyways, but reviews are really just the icing on the cake. I’m not going to respond to every single review here, but I’ll respond to those who have questions and things like that.

Shadowkiss — Thanks! No, Draco won’t become pregnant in my fic. Sorry to disappoint. The closest we’ll get to that will probably be along the lines of implied mPreg.

Cyn — Yes, they are able to get married and all that good stuff. They just didn’t ask because, at this point, they hate each other and marriage is not even something entering their minds. About Dumbledore, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
