Beautiful Soul
Chapter 3

Harry could not believe his luck for once. He actually got away from his uncle’s house before his birthday and was having a pleasant stay with the Grangers. He would stay with them for a few more days, and be at the Burrow just in time for his birthday. He was so excited.

Hermione was great company too, especially after putting up with the lovesick fool for weeks. Hermione enjoyed showing Harry around her hometown. She had her biggest laugh when she took him to her parents’ office. It was an ordeal for Harry, to say the least. His face turned from red to green as Dr. Granger talked to him while performing a root canal on some poor unsuspecting muggle. The silver instruments looked more like torture devices than anything that would actually help someone. Harry knew he would much rather face Madame Pomfrey and her Skele-gro again rather than be forced to endure this form of torture. He was sure that Voldemort could have learned a few things from Dr. Granger, if Harry hadn’t defeated him the school the year before. Hermione just laughed at Harry and dragged him on to see her mom.

Other than his short visit to the dentist, Harry had a boundless supply of energy. He bounced around everywhere he and Hermione went. He talked non-stop about Jesse McCartney and what they were going to do at the concert. He came up with all kinds of ways to meet Jesse McCartney which Hermione shot down one after the other. Harry’s biggest problem was that he could not go get a ticket to the concert until they went to get school supplies, and no amount of pleading could get them to Diagon Alley fast enough. Harry was so impatient. He feared the tickets might sell out, or worse, he would get a seat in the worst possible location. Then his worst fear would be that he wouldn’t be able to see Jesse’s beautiful face at all.

Hermione, in a great mood, just kept laughing at Harry and taking his mind off of the concert. She tried to talk to him about Quidditch, but since she wasn’t very interested in it, that didn’t go very well. They talked of their previous adventures, and of how Harry finally defeated Voldemort. Harry questioned her about her romance with Ron. They talked for hours, but always managed to end up talking about Jesse. Hermione finally decided this was a good thing. She had never seen Harry so excited about anything, except Quidditch and God forbid, Cho.

Finally the day arrived in which they could escape to Diagon Alley and the Burrow. Harry could hardly contain his excitement. Dr. Granger couldn’t drive fast enough to London. Their first stop was just for Harry. They went to the local Ticketmaster office only to find disappointment. The tickets were sold out for all of the reserved seating in Hyde Park. Harry was devastated. Hermione held his hand all the way to Diagon Alley as he became more and more miserable.

Hermione’s dad pulled up in front of the Leaky Cauldron and they said their goodbyes. They were finally getting use to just letting Hermione out to make her way through the wizarding world. They accepted this part of Hermione, but they still tried to maintain a normal muggle life.

Hermione and Harry checked in with Tom at the Leaky Cauldron, and he took their bags up to their rooms upstairs. They had planned on staying for two nights, that night and the next; specifically Harry’s birthday and the night of the concert. It didn’t look like Harry was going to be very happy for his birthday yet again.

Harry and Hermione walked over to the twins joke shop, Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes. The shop had grown in the few years that it had been open. They walked in to see the twins talking to a customer, trying to convince him to try a Ton Tongue Candy. Apparently the customer had been warned not to actually try anything in the shop. He made a purchase and left the store. Fred and George looked up and saw Harry and Hermione.

“Hey guys!” Hermione said. “How has the summer been treating you two?”

“Not bad,” George started.

“Not bad at all.”

“We just sold that person…”

“A wonderful little treat that will make him…”

“Turn into the creature of his house.”

“So, if he were say a Gryffindor he would obviously…”

“Turn into a Lion, and a Raven for…”

“Ravenclaw, and so on.”

It was so confusing talking to the twins at times. You had to know one from the other, and sometimes that didn’t even help. They finished each other’s sentences. You either had to get use to them quickly or go somewhere else.

“So, Harry, why are you looking so down?” Fred asked.

George continued, “Did that cousin torment you again? Was your uncle really that bad this summer?”

“Didn’t you get away from them early?” Fred finished.

“Yeah, I got to leave early, and thankfully they weren’t too bad. Dudley was lovesick for this muggle girl that goes to his school. My uncle pretty much just ignored me, and then when Hermione and her dad showed up it just shocked him,” Harry said wearily. As much as he loved visiting the twins shop, his heart wasn’t cooperating. He was so disappointed about the concert.

“So why the long face?” the twins questioned.

Hermione jumped in before Harry could start in with his tirade. “Well, you know we were all going to go to see that Jesse McIntyre…”

“McCartney, Hermione…Jesse McCartney.” Harry interrupted.

“Oh yes, Jesse McCartney,” she stressed, “and just found out that all of the good seats have been sold out. So, Harry here has been moping.” Hermione rolled her eyes at the twins behind Harry’s back as if to say, “See what I have had to put up with.” The twins exchanged a knowing look with the frazzled girl.

“Oh, mate, too bad!” The sound of a door opening in the back was heard. Ron came walking in a minute later. Hermione ran into his arms, leaving the twins to deal with Harry’s mood. She had heard enough about Jesse McCartney, and she had only been with Harry for a few days.

The twins sat and listened to Harry go on and on about not being able to go to the concert and how he just knew he needed to be there. Harry never realized when a silencing charm was placed on him, and the twins went back to playing jokes on each other.
