Chapter 3
It was the day of the twin’s fourth birthday and Harry was so excited. He couldn’t wait to see his uncles Moony and Padfoot. He knew he would get his only birthday presents of the day from his uncles, and then the men would play with him and he couldn’t wait. Harry had always been smart for his age having Moony teach him to read at three as he had nothing else to do since mummy, daddy, and sometimes uncle Padfoot were always paying attention to Jason. Then again they always told him Jason needed more attention, as he was The Boy Who Lived. However, Harry knew there were wrong about that, he remembered what happened that night and it still scared him. He let them think Jason did it so he wouldn’t end up like his brother.
If there was one thing Harry couldn’t stand it was his brother. Jason had grown up to be spoiled. He was always crying to get his way and to get Harry into trouble.
He loved his mummy and daddy, but they never seemed to have time for him. They were always taking care of Jason. Mummy was always reading him stories and daddy was always taking him flying. That didn’t really matter though because uncle Moony read to him and uncle Padfoot took him flying, but still he wished his mummy and daddy would do those things too.
So here he was sitting on the steps outside waiting for uncles Moony and Padfoot to show up. However, he did not know he wasn’t going to get to see his uncle.
While Harry was waiting a black car pulled up the drive and a woman with a veil on her head got out. He decided if he went into the house to get his parents they might decide to give him some attention. When he got inside he called his parents and told them someone was at the door. Naturally James and Lily came right into the room and welcomed the woman.
“Hello I am James and this is my wife Lily, so glad you could make it.”
“My name is Sister Helen from St. Mary’s orphanage. As I understand you have a child here you wanted to put up for adoption. If you don’t mind my asking why, you look like you are able to provide for him just fine.” Sister Helen looked real confused as did Harry as he was still in the room. He, however, did like sister Mary she seemed real nice.
“Well” said James, having the decency to look embarrassed, “the thing is we have another son who needs a lot of attention and that doesn’t leave us much time for Harry.”
Harry felt like he had been punched in the stomach, his parents were giving him away.
Sister Helen looked at the small child and actually felt sorry for him. The head of the orphanage told her the child was turning four, but the one in front of her looked no older than three.
“Very well,” She said, “do you have his things?” She wanted nothing more than to take the child away from these awful people and try to give him a better life.
“Yes here is a bag with some of his things.” Said Lily handing Sister Helen the bag. Kneeling down in front of Harry she said, “Now Harry you be a good boy, and do as you are told.”
Then James had the audacity to say, “We are doing this for your own good, you will be happy with a new family.”
Sister Helen wanted to think this was true, she wanted to find the quiet boy a new family, but knew that was next to impossible as most couples want babies to adopt.
Harry on the other hand felt devastated, ‘why would anyone want me if my own parent’s don’t?’ he thought. With that thought he decided it would be best to put up a wall around his heart and not let anyone in. After all who would want an ugly child like him? As he was driving away with Sister Helen he realized he would never see Uncles Moony or Padfoot again, and with that thought he broke down and cried.
