Understandings

Hermione had always found a routine at the Burrow. It was comforting to know that this was indeed a home away from home for her. Her parents had been apprehensive about sending her to the DA’s headquarters, but like most things she had talked them into it.

She showered in the morning, silently thanking Ginny for that drying spell she had taught her it Hermione’s fifth year. Now instead of a mass of messy curls, she had a flow of gentle waves just passed the middle of her back. As she pulled on her jeans and tank top she looked at herself in the mirror. She wasn’t gorgeous, at best she thought she might have classic beauty, but that was at best.

She sat down on her bed and reflected on the past weeks events. She plain and simply wasn’t Draco’s type, maybe because she was plain and simple. She wasn’t gorgeous or top heavy, which is where his tastes normally ran. She wasn’t fat, she was just average. Draco was certainly not average, with his aristocratic face and steel grey eyes. He’d let his hair grow that summer so it was now just brushing the top of his ears. She had no clue what was going on under his robes, but if quidditch was any indication of what was under there, Merlin help her. Now that she had had time to reflect, she knew she couldn’t logically blame Draco. She did, but she knew she shouldn’t. So, two days ago she had sent a response with Hedwig to meet her in Diagon Alley at noon on Saturday. With that she went downstairs to meet the rest of the Weasley’s, and off they went.

Draco had gotten ready in the same fashion he always did. After all there was no reason for him to dress to impress, she was already his. He showered and dressed as he always did, in black silk slacks and an emerald green button down shirt. He liked the feeling of silk against his skin, and as a Malfoy he was entitled to such. Alas, the only thing he liked better then silk was the feel of a young Hogwarts co-ed’s naked body against his. Well, that was a pipe dream now. No other woman would make him happy, and he doubted Hermione would do it for him. Some things you just have to deal with.

He glanced at the clock on his bedside table, 10:30. He might as well get going. No use being late. He stalked to the fireplace, dropped a handful of floo-powder and bellowed his destination.

“Hermione are you sure you’re going to be ok? We really don’t like just leaving you here. What if he doesn’t show up?” Ginny asked.

“She will be fine. I guarantee her safety,” Draco responded.

“Well, that means a lot coming from you Draco,” Harry put in.

“Not for nothing Harry, but considering you no doubt know I was the one who put an end to your would be tryst the other night, your sarcasm doesn’t carry a lot of weight. We’ll be fine and I’m sure if she’s not Hermione will put me in my place.” Draco turned to Hermione, “unless you’d rather not be alone.” He whispered. “Can you feel it? I do.”

“We’ll be fine guys. If I’m more then an hour I’ll just floo back to the Burrow when I’m done.” Hermione turned to Draco not giving her friends time to reply and grabbed his cloak, pulling him into the bookstore.

“Let’s just get this over with Draco. I have other things I could be doing right now.”

“As do I princess, but don’t you mean its Potter you could be doing?”

“This, form the Slytherin sex god himself, How many women have you had today Draco?”

“None. Not since the night I found out you were mine.”

“I am not now, nor will I ever be yours in any way!”

He grabbed her then. Taking her hand and pulling her body flush with his in the dusty stacks of the bookstore. He leaned down to whisper in her ear. “You’ll be mine Hermione, in EVERY way. Just as I will be yours, that’s really an angle you might want to explore. I’m not exactly a Weasley or anything. “

She couldn’t deny what she felt. That jolt the moment their skin made contact, but she did battle it back. “That’s just it! If this whole situation is to be believed then it would be better if you were like Ron or the twins. They have great hearts and kind spirits.” She took a deep breath, “What do you mean since you found out I was yours?”

“If I’m with another woman, you would feel the same pain I felt while you were with Potter. Much fun as that may be just to teach you a lesson, I can’t intentionally harm you.”

“That’s the Veela in you speaking to me Draco. Not what you truly want.” She stepped back from him.

“If that’s what gets you through the night Hermione believe what ever you would like. But just for the record, I couldn’t hurt you intentionally because I care for you. I have since I started thinking for myself. Let’s walk you and I, we can speak more.”

Hermione reluctantly followed Draco to one of the outside tables at a café. They sat and ordered two butterbeers. “What did you mean since you started thinking for yourself?” Hermione asked.

“Up until our fifth year I was a minor bird of everything my father believed. Once he was sent to Azkaban I realized the Dark Lord was nothing more then a figment of his own creating and from muggle parentage as well. I could never get behind a man who hated what he was. And I always noted that you were smart and quick witted. You were the only witch that could ever put me so neatly into my place.”

“You’re an arrogant prat you know that don’t you?”

“Yes, but you can’t help but love me for it.”

“Love is a long way off, but admire the man you have tried to become I can say. How about this Draco, we see where his takes us. You have to know that I can’t just hop into this just because you say I have to. If for no other reason then you say I will do everything in my power to fight you off.”

“If you followed me blindly there is no way you would ever match as my mate.”

“Don’t call me that.”

“How about his, you take the rest of the remaining school break and research your books and exhausted your options. When we get back to school we follow my plan?”

“I make no promises of following any such plan, but I will take it under advisement.” They rose to leave, “Draco why are you taking this so well? It’s not like you.”

“I can’t help it. You are my destiny and I am yours. It may have helped to see it growing up. Even if I didn’t know it at the time. I know that there is such a love out there that no one else but you and I will ever experience.”

“That’s incredible romantic of you Draco.”

“It’s the Veela in me. I still can’t get used to it.” They parted ways then. Draco to his empty manor and Hermione back to the Burrow. Where she was bombarded by questions from her three closest friends. And being Hermione she dutifully answered every one.
