The Half-Blood Prince and the Pure-Blood

Chapter 3

It had been a month since the terrible events at Hogwarts. Hermione, Severus, Narcissa and Draco were now in a secluded location in the country side of Ireland. The manor had belonged to Hermione’s birth parents. It was unplotable. She had gotten a few letters from Ron. He and Harry were searching for the four remaining Horcruxes. So far they had found and destroyed two of them and their journey had only just begun.

“Hermione, can I speak to you?” Narcissa asked.

“Of course. Let’s go into the sitting room.” Hermione answered.

The two women headed downstairs and into the sitting room. Draco and Severus were in the backyard practicing Quidditch. The two sat on the sofa, Hermione called Cheyenne for some tea, then Narcissa spoke.

“I’m afraid. You saw the paper about the breakout from Azkaban. What if Lucius comes looking for us?” Narcissa asked.

“He can’t find us. I have Voldemort’s complete trust. Unless there is a meeting where everyone is needed, he won’t summon us. He told me he would owl if he needed to see us.” Hermione answered.

“I still can’t shake the feeling that Lucius will try to find us. Regardless of what Voldemort tells him.” Narcissa said.

“Why would he?” Hermione asked.

“About ten years ago, I had an affair. It was with Remus Lupin. I ended it and went crying to Severus. Lucius knew I had the affair, but not with who. He suspected Severus and still does.” Narcissa answered tearfully.

“Oh Narcissa. Tell me, do you love Remus?” Hermione asked.

“I did at the time. Now, I don’t. I love him as a friend. I do know he’s now with Nymphoria. I also know I don’t love Lucius. All I want is the chance to be happy.” Narcissa replied.

“That’s what we’re fighting for. I’m hoping soon, that Minerva McGonagall will come across Dumbledore’s pensives, journals and other possessions that will show and tell everything about what happened that night and leading up to the night Albus died.” Hermione said.

“Mother! Hermione!” Draco called out.

“In here Draco!” Narcissa cried.

Draco and Severus hurried into the sitting room. Severus handed Hermione a copy of the Daily Prophet. She opened to the front page. What she saw had her blood boiling in rage.

Entire Wizarding Family Killed!

The Wizarding Family, the Weasleys, were found dead in their home at the Burrow two days ago. Although the Dark Mark was not seen, it is believed that followers of You-Know-Who are responsible.

Arthur, his wife Molly, their six sons, Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George and Ronald and their only daughter Ginerva, were found at the dinner table. Aurors gather that the Death Eaters surprised the family.

“This is a sad event for our world. I assure the Wizarding community that I will be sending the best Aurors to track down those responsible.” Minister Rufus Scrimgeour, said earlier today.

“Lucius. He’s the only one who would do this. I know it.” Hermione hissed.

“I agree. Shortly after you were initiated, I went to see Lucius. He, like Bellatrix, doubted your loyalties. He swore when he returned he would prove you were a traitor.” Severus said.

“God damnit! You should have fucking told me this!” Hermione yelled.

“I didn’t think he would actually go through with it.” Severus said.

Before Hermione could speak, an owl flew in through the window. Hermione took the letter and read it. After reading it twice she started toward the door.

“Where are you going?” Draco asked.

“Voldemort wants me. I’ll be back later.” Hermione answered as she stormed out of the room and upstairs.

Ten minutes later Draco, Narcissa and Severus watched as Hermione stormed out of the house dressed in her leather cat suite, hair pulled back in the leather clip and dark make-up on her face. Hermione went to the boundaries of her property and apparated to Riddle Manor. She made her way to the meeting room and pushed the doors open.

“Ah Hermione. Please.” Voldemort greeted as he motioned for Hermione to join him at his side.

Hermione walked purposely to his side. A throne like chair sat at Voldemort’s right side. She sat up straight like a queen and eyed the Death Eaters assembled before her.

“We are here for a purpose. It seems our dear Lucius has decided to take it upon himself to lead an attack on those muggle loving fools, the Weasleys. Him, Bellatrix, Avery, Alecto, Amycus and Dolohov. Although I am pleased they were eliminated, I specifically gave strict orders that there would be no unauthorized attacks. It will be up to Hermione to decide the punishment. Hermione, they are all yours.” Voldemort said.

Hermione nodded to Voldemort. She then rose to her feet. She walked over to the six Death Eaters in question. She stared them each down.

“I gather this was your idea Lucius?” Hermione asked.

“Yes.” he replied arrogantly.

“Did the other join willingly or did you…pursued them? And I’ll know if you’re lying.” she asked.

“Bellatrix, Avery Dolohov volunteered. The other two were talked into it.” he replied.

“I see. Why?” she questioned.

“Because of you. Everyone seems to believe you are truly one of us.” Lucius said.

“Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!” Hermione laughed.

Bellatrix and many others cringed at the evil sounding laugh.

“And you expected me to just start crying? News flash Lucius. The Weasleys mean nothing to me. You want to know my loyalties? Ask Alecto or Amycus. Have Bellatrix show you. I think it’s time for you to see for yourself. CURICO!” Hermione yelled.

Lucius fell to the floor screaming in pain. Hermione stood over him, her face a mask of control. She smiled as his screams became louder, his body thrashing like a fish out of water.

“What do you think now Lucius? Have I proven my loyalties? No? Well, let’s see. Sectumsempra.” Hermione hissed.

“Ugh! Aahh!” Lucius screamed.

Hermione stood over him. Lucius’s blood pooling around her feet. She then looked up at Voldemort who nodded.

“Good bye Lucius. Avada Kedavra.” Hermione said.

A green light erupted from her wand. A second later, Lucius lay motionless at her feet. Hermione nodded to Voldemort then left. Leaving bloody footprints in her wake.

“What do you think he wanted to see her about?” Draco asked.

“I don’t know. Voldemort confides in Hermione. He’s often summoned her just to have tea or even a meal with her.” Severus answered as he stared out the sitting room window.

“Draco, why don’t you get changed for dinner.” Narcissa said.

“All right mother.” Draco replied.

Draco grabbed his broom and headed upstairs. Once they were alone, Narcissa got up and stood beside Severus.

“You really love her don’t you?” Narcissa asked.

“With all my heart. I’m just scared. What will happen to her. If Voldemort does win, I fear for her soul. I fear it will become evil and twisted.” Severus answered.

“Oh Severus. Voldemort will not win. With Albus gone, the light has become even stronger.” Narcissa replied.

Just then they heard the front door open and slam close. They watched as Hermione slowly headed down the hall toward the stairs. Severus immediately knew something was wrong.

“Go to her. She looks like she needs you.” Narcissa whispered.

Severus nodded. He hurried upstairs to the room he and Hermione shared. He paused outside the door. He could hear her crying. Whatever had happened was bad. He had never seen, let alone heard her cry.

“Hermione?” Severus said as he walked into the room.

“I…I…killed…him.” Hermione sobbed.

Severus sat beside her on the bed and pulled her into his arms. She was lying on the bed wearing her night shirt, clutching her pillow. He gently rubbed her back and rocked her back and forth as if she were a toddler.

“Sshh. Killed who love?” he asked gently.

“Lucius. I…I was…called…to judge Lucius…for…attacking…the Weasleys…without permission. Voldemort had me…kill…him.” she cried.

Severus simply held her and closed his eyes. He wished there was something he could do for her. He knew she didn’t regret killing Lucius, but this was the hardest test. She now proved her loyalty one hundred percent.

“It’s going to be all right. You just rest. I’ll tell Draco and Narcissa. I’ll also have Cheyenne bring your dinner here.” he said.

Hermione could only nod. Half an hour later Severus went downstairs for dinner. Draco and Narcissa were already seated and eating when he walked into the kitchen.

“Cheyenne, I’ll need you to take a tray of food up to Lady Hermione. She’s not feeling to well this evening.” Severus ordered.

“Yes Lord Snape.” Cheyenne replied.

“Severus, what happened?” Narcissa asked.

“She was called to pass judgment on Lucius for going after the Weasleys without permission. She was ordered to kill Lucius. She did.” Severus answered wearily as he sat down.

“You mean, my father’s dead?” Draco asked.

“Yes.” Severus answered.

Draco’s face broke out into a huge smile. As did Narcissa’s. Severus knew that they would be happy that Lucius was dead.

“How’s Hermione holding up?” Narcissa asked.

“She’s not doing to well. When I went in there she was crying her eyes out.” Severus answered.

“This must be so hard on her. What can we do for her?” Narcissa asked.

“Just give her time.” Severus answered.

Severus sat there and ate the rest of his meal with Draco and Narcissa in silence. An hour later Severus returned to the bedroom. He found Hermione sound asleep and her empty dinner dishes on the nightstand beside the bed. Severus quietly gathered the tray and took it back downstairs.

“How is she?” Draco asked.

“She’s asleep. I wish I could help ease her pain.” Severus sighed as he sat on the arm chair in the library.

“She’ll be fine. Minerva will find Dumbledore’s journals and such soon.” Narcissa said gently.

“Mum’s right. The truth will come out soon.” Draco added.

Back at Hogwarts, Minerva sat in Albus’s office. Luckily, the governors had agreed to keep the school open. She sat going through Albus’s things. She opened a trunk and found it full of journals. Minerva picked up the first one and opened it and began reading.

October 6, 2004

Hermione Granger came to me today. Over the summer she found out about her real parents. She is a pureblood. Her mother and father were Regina and Lawrence Canton.

She also informed me that Tom Riddle met with her while the Grangers were away. He offered her a position with him as his right hand. His princess and heir so to speak.

She accepted. She told me that she did this to help relieve some of the burden from Severus. I used Occlumacy and found her telling the truth. We immediately called Severus. And from there the events were set in motion.

“Events? What events Albus?” Minerva whispered out loud.

She immediately continued reading. Realizing she may very well have uncovered the real reason why Severus killed Albus, and why Hermione was there that night on Voldemort’s side.

March 7, 2005

I’m worried about Severus. He and I had an argument last night. He said he didn’t want to go through with the plan anymore. I told him he had to. He had already agreed. Plus, he made the Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa.

He stormed off. I hope Hermione can convince him other wise. Severus must follow through and kill me or else he’ll die.

“Dear Merlin. Severus, why did you make that vow?” Minerva moaned.

March 29, 2005

Everything is set. Hermione has assured me that Severus will go through with the plan. She also said to make sure Harry would be there at the Astronomy Tower when Severus killed me.

Hermione said that the Death Eaters would come through the Room of Requirement. She said both Draco and Severus are scared. She only hopes that the plan will succeed.

“Damnit! What plan?” Minerva cried.

She opened to the next entry.

April 3, 2005

Hermione came to me today. Tom had called her over to have tea. He confided in her that everything was set for June 1st. He also told her that he was thrilled to hear that she and Severus were in love.

As am I. At least I know Severus will be protected no matter what happens in this war. I’m also happy that Severus has found happiness in Hermione.

I sincerely hope we are successful in defeating Tom once and for all.

“We had it all wrong about Severus and Hermione. I have to find his pensives. There’s more to this than we realized.” Minerva sighed quietly.
