Chapter Three: Getting to know you…
After returning to his cabin Snape began to think what these unique talents could be, for he hadn’t yet seen a wand in her possession, would these abilities the members speak of be the talent to perform magic without a wand? He looked over the file Dumbledore had given him once more before burning it, just in case the file was to slip into the wrong hands it could blow his cover. As Snape concluded his last scan he realised that she had recently lost her parents, to his attention she did not seem in a state of mourning? As well as at only the young age of twenty, he was nineteen years hear senior, she had a coldness similar to him however for one so young how could it be possible, he had, had years to perfect his she on the other hand had not. A lot of questions were beginning to bubble within his intellectual brain, however he would not be successful in getting them answered sitting in his cabin. Throwing the file in the fire ensuring it had been thoroughly destroyed; Snape began reading through the papers Red had given him.

RED
Understanding pretty much everything the document noted, Snape saw little way to ask for assistance apart from the job marked ‘P.M’, he wasn’t sure what it meant, however he took his chance to get a less formal introduction with Alexandra before this evening’s mixer, and this was his one chance. Taking off his casual fro coat keeping tight a hold of the instruction sheet just in case it proved usual further in the conversation, he left for Alexandra’s cabin next door.
He couldn’t help but feel a bit suspicious, surely someone would have red up on him, from his previous post at Hogwarts, so far, he had been little like his original self yet again he had not met any of the other houses and had no need to be so bitter with his own house. Knocking boldly on her cabin door, when it finally opened Snape was not greeted by Alexandra but her personal house elf Spiro. A female elf with a white potato sack on and a pinkish severed rope around it as a belt,
“Can Spiro helps Sir?” He took on his natural cold self at least he could still be his old self with the help,
“I’m looking for Alexandra…” Looking slightly afraid of Snape, to which he was glad to see, the little elf slowly shook her head,
“Spiro is sorriest Sir, but Miss is out.”
“Well where has she gone?” Still with fear in her eyes as if she were about to cry, again to his pleasure,
“Spiro is not sure she can says Sir, Spiro does nots know Sir…” Feeling a bit irritated he demanded on,
“I am her new deputy head, now would you kindly reveal her where abouts?” Feeling a little re-assured of his position she gave a slow yet weary nod,
“Very wells Sir, she had to go to the perimeter markings, there had been a spot of trouble with a unicorn in the boarder liner.” Before saying anything else he decided to go in search of this borderline, to his surprise it was almost in a visual of the camp grounds. More to his dismay he say that most if not all of the Seniors were there, he had to get into the loop and quick he was missing out on too much valued information that could prove useful. Before he reached the gathering of Seniors Red came up behind him and placed his left hand on his shoulder,
“Ah Severus I was just coming for you…It had in your specification that you are a potions master, that is correct is it not?” Snape gave a subtle nod, seeming some slight relief from the old demons face he urged Severus forward,
“It seems someone set the borderline on too strict a security allowance, we have a unicorn trapped in the barrier…”
“I see and what do you ask of me? I’m hardly in a position to extract it…” Red bellowed a loud laugh that alerted the seniors to their approaching,
“No, no, I would ask of you that you concoct a healing potion of anything you can muster, the poor creature is badly wounded from trying to escape the barrier, it will not instant healing where ever possible…”
“How will it be successfully extracted from the barrier, with the potion it will only temporarily heal, if at all when still hold captive?”
“Alexandra is busy trying to calm it at present, she will be removing it, without the younger members knowledge if we’re hopeful…As I sure you have by now heard of her reputation?” Severus nodded, if what the elder boy had told him was true then she had a great deal of fans from each house, never mind her own. The group parted giving way at their arrival, revealing a badly wounded white unicorn with dimly lit ocean blue eyes. Alexandra was standing not yet close enough to touch the creature but kneeling down by its side, quietly humming to it, which seemed to be working to calm it down and pause the struggle to get free from the barrier. Slowly pausing the humming she turned her head to acknowledge their arrival and said calmly and not too loud to disturb the slightly calmed unicorn still suffering,
“I did not know what you need, so I gathered as much as I could think of for a possible healing potion as quickly as possible…” One of the other seniors handed Severus a bag and gave a faint smile, in understanding as the loss of a creature so pure would be a tragedy, this was a time to prove himself. He opened the bag and saw that she had indeed filled it with as much healing ingredients as she could with a bowl and pastel to accompany it, to him it looked as if she had robbed a small apothecary, so he set to work on concocting a raw healing potion, whilst the others eagerly watched and waited for his signal to enable Alexandra to remove the suffering creature. After about ten minutes he was satisfied with the potion, well lotion he had made for healing the creature, and give a quick nod to Alexandra giving the ok to remove the creature from the barrier. She bent down low to the unicorn and whispered something to it, no one could hear what she had spoken to it, but it replied with an angry snort. She stood up and bowed her head to the barrier braising for the task ahead of her, she was now wearing ragged jeans underneath her short gypsy dress which made it look like a fashionable top, with strands of brown loose curls down by her face, obviously a result of running. Severus stood up still holding his concoction and said quietly to Red, who was still eagerly watching on with the rest in silence,
“I will not be able to apply it, do you know of anyone…?” Red gave a small smile and nodded, as the pair began to watch eagerly as Alexandra approached the barrier,
“She will do it…” Alex firstly stroked her hand down the heated electric like barrier, testing its power, and thrust her full forearm into it, the barrier made a further loud hissing sound similar to that of a over boiling kettle. Her face was clenched up in pain, her eyes squinted shut as she proceeded further into it. Now fully consumed by the barrier her face was still pain stricken yet her body movements graceful as she neared to worrying unicorn. Some of the seniors gave a subtle jump as one of the elder boys cheered her on, though it was not the beginning of the younger members crowding,
“Go on there Queen Bee, you can do it!” It was a tiger, a tall boy with ginger hair, Snape had almost thought to himself he could have been a Weasley, but dismissed the idea immediately. Still braising herself very tensely she bent down and placed both her hands on the creatures back and began to push with all her strength, her teeth were bearing slightly with the immense pain she was in, but still pushed forward with the task at hand. Seeing that she wasn’t getting anyway where fast she stood up and took a step back from the unicorn, however Snape’s distraction was drawn to Red speaking quietly to himself,
“Go on, use it, use it…” The elder boy had now been reluctantly escorted back to his cabin and sworn to secrecy unless told otherwise, whilst Alexandra stood still quickly debating her options. Still crunching up her face in pain she quickly drew back her left arm and made the motion that she was giving some one a good back hander, to Snape’s unforeseen disbelief the unicorn was pushed out of the barrier with the strength of a large cave troll. Still lying in agony on the floor it was Alexandra’s turn to escape the barrier; however her escape was a lot easier than the unicorns, forcing out her forearm exactly as she entered it, forcing her entire body out of the barrier with a hissing of boiling water.
When fully escaped from the barrier Alexandra first fell to the floor, covered with burns and small cuts from the barriers powerful hold upon her. Wasting no time Snape attempted to approach the pained unicorn, but not to his surprise the unicorn didn’t look overly impressed to see him, which was natural as unicorns only liked pure beings, and as far as he was concerned he had lost that years ago. Alexandra got to her feet and graciously took the bowl of lotion from him with a faint smile and proceeded onto the creature, once again lulling it with her soothing humming. Taking a handful of the light green potion like gel in her hand, Alexandra gently began messaging it into the unicorn’s white yet red tainted coat, into the similar burns and cuts to that of her own.
After only a few moments the unicorns eyes began to glow more brightly then they had been, signalling his potion was working (to no surprise), the cuts and burns began to heal and disappear. Only a little more time on the unicorn climbed to its legs and allowed Alexandra to tend to the second side, looking stronger and lively than it had before. Many of the seniors had to leave the covering crowd as more and more members had became suspicious of the events at the barrier, so they had to usher them back to their cabins. When the second side had been successfully healed the unicorn snorted again and reared in relief indicating its returned strength, turning around to look at the barrier it gave a loud neigh, it was returned from the wood in triple the numbers.
In her success Red began to clap loudly with his cigar but in his mouth still faintly a light, as did the remainder of the seniors, still in some pain herself from her own wounds she shook her head,
“I will have to escort her back to the woods on the perimeter marking this evening…” As if she had said nothing Red went on cheering,
“Well done lassie, a knew you could do it! Well done.” He threw his arm around her neck and shoulders as if in a pose for the weekly wizard walking her onward, her mouth dropped open in shock, he had his warm arm over many of the cuts and burns across her back and that was only intensifying the pain dramatically. Seeing the immense pain Red was putting her in the older witch got onto her tip toes and smacked him playfully yet in warning over his head like a mother would his son,
“Bloody idiot, can’t you see the girls in pain, and you’re not helping!” Red looked at the draw dropping expression on her face as though a cave troll had just given her a hard pat on the back, quickly removing his arm he gave a hearty smile,
“Sorry hin…” Alexandra gave a sympathetic smile and said trying to adapt to the pain,
“Well if she could stay in the Sire block until this evening I will lead her back to the meadow through the perimeter.” Swinging his arms around after taking the cigar from his mouth in agreement he said with ease,
“Yes, yes, very well, will you still be able to represent your house this evening?” Alexandra nodded with a sly grin on her face even though still under a strong strain,
“Of course I will, I’ll take her to the Sire block and change I’ll be fine…”
“Jolly good see you this evening…” Red then walked off as if nothing had occurred and all was well, whilst Alexandra stood gently stroking the unicorn who’s eyes were glowing very brightly now under a better dosage of health, Snape was collecting together reusable ingredients. After collecting the ingredients and giving them to Spiral to return to Alexandra’s cabin he said bluntly attempting to assess her burns from his position away from the unicorn,
“Your wounds will have to be tended to, if not they could become infected.” Spiral had returned and was nervously walking the unicorn away with a the lead rope Alexandra had loosely tied around its neck, as she turned to him with a faint smile,
“Yes, I will when I return to my cabin, thanks again for the help with the unicorn…We don’t really have a healer as such since Abe…” She drifted off from what she was going to say looking at the barrier, still quite bitter and uninterested
“If you would prefer I could make you a better dosage of the healing cream when I return to my cabin for you? It would be a lot less difficult if you want to avoid interested eyes…” Alexandra began to process the information before forming an answer and nodded still giving a faint smile,
“Yes, thank you, that would excellent Severus; you know this summer may not be so rough for you after all…” A few seconds later she apparated before his eyes, obviously to avoid the growing attention of the gathering house members back towards the camp, a few moments later he apparated to his cabin grunting with a sneer before hand. After Snape returned to his cabin he concocted a similar solution of healing potion to that of which he used on the injured unicorn, the green clotted mixture drooped from his wand upon completion, satisfied with the ending product he bottled it in a beaker like container putting a cork lid on top to help it keep.
After returning to his cabin Snape began to think what these unique talents could be, for he hadn’t yet seen a wand in her possession, would these abilities the members speak of be the talent to perform magic without a wand?
